WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history who maintained his power in the face of dramatic convulsions in the Republican Party for almost two decades, will step down from that position in November.
McConnell, who turned 82 last week, was set to announce his decision Wednesday in the well of the Senate, a place where he looked in awe from its back benches in 1985 when he arrived and where he grew increasingly comfortable in the front row seat afforded the party lea

To be replaced by someone equally as corrupt.
Still...one less RINO is a good thing...

just saw his announcement in the Senate. Seated directly behind him was a ME relic who also needs to depart.

Say what you want about Mitch McConnell, but if not for him we'd have SC Justice Merrick Garland. He also got Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett onto the SC bench. Don't know of anyone else who could have gotten ACB there, after refusing to even bring Garland up for a vote. So sad that his critics don't like him, but the country would be headed in an entirely different direction if not for him.

Props are due to Turtle for his leadership on judges. May be the only thing to send congrats, and I'll admit it might be a big one. But his Uniparty - Deep State - At the trough - actions do not permit me to start organizing the "Thank you Mitch" party.

I knew someone would bring up the judges.
The fake,compromised conservative judges.
Thanks Mitch, between you and GWBush we'll never get a fair shake in the Supreme Court...

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” he said.
Yeah, you missed that talent by 30 years, Turtle!

Good points, Poster 3. However, he cannot be forgiven for the gun control bill last summer and for the open border bill defeated in the Senate this month. We are stuck with McConnell until November. That’s 9 more months where he can use his power as minority leader to sell us out.

I take a slightly different view from #3.
At first blush it seems like a good thing to have kept Gargoyle off the Court. However, if he had been confirmed, he would have been a predictable 1 out of 9, rather than the rogue 1/1 he is now.
And I agree McConnell helped steer 3 other Trump justices through confirmation. But in my opinion, the verdict is still being written about them.
I guess the lesson is: I don’t see another Scalia or Thomas in the pipeline.
Nevertheless, good riddance to McConnell. (Wonder what prompted this?)

Sure, Addison was good on judges, but old Glitch has stabbed MAGA in the back almost at every turn. Less it's forgotten he held money from key Senate races in 2022. His brand of RINO leadership is to be in the minority. He still will be in the Senate until 2027 when his current term ends. Also does anyone think that a Cruz or a Hawley will take his place. Don't count on it.

I give the turtle credit for getting three center/right justices on the SCOTUS. However, I remember how he was determined to kill the tea party movement, and described Joe O'Dea as the "perfect candidate," for Colorado's Senator. O'Dea promptly denounced Trump and lost to Michael Bennett by 15 points. He's waaaay too thick with Chuckie Schumer, and is too eager to "make deals" with the Dems. Thanks a bunch, Mitch.

It’s like W. He prevented President Gore and President Kerry. Mitch prevented Justice Garland. You have got to hand that to him. Now sooner the better.

McConnell stole his last election. I'm sure he was better than the Dim he stole it from, but it just tells you that he's part of the DeepState.
Good Riddance. Now let Rand Paul take his place.

Since my post (#3) has been called out, please excuse a second post.
#13 has said that Garland would have been 1 of 9. No . . . He would have been one of possibly a 5-justice majority on the court. A case could have been made for not confirming Amy Coney Barrett, due to the election coming up within about 2 weeks of a presidential election. If the Dems had held off, Biden would have had the opportunity to appoint another far left justice to replace Ruthie. Our side would have had Alito, Thomas, maybe Kavanaugh (maybe not,) and sometimes Roberts. Do you like the Dobbs decision? Well, we wouldn't have had that with a minority of justices on our side. There are probably other decisions that we like that would have gone the other way without Mitch McConnell's ability to get confirmations. With a majority on the SC Biden what couldn't they have done! Election fraud? Gun control? Forcing Christian bakers to provide transgender reveal cakes? And--don't forget that President Trump has a few cases that will end up in the SC. Think about where we would be without having a majority of justices that haven't been afflicted with TDS.
I don't like everything McConnell has done, either, but I'm realistic enough to know that a functional Senate depends on compromise. We will never get everything we want, but we should be grateful to him for what we do have.
