Plans are in motion to build what would become the tallest skyscraper in the United States — and it is coming to an unlikely city.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has a population of just under 700,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Although it has around a twelfth of the population of New York City, developers are trying to use it to take away the Big Apple’s title as home of the largest building in the country.
Real estate company Matteson Capital hopes to submit a request to raise the tower’s original planned height of 1,750 feet to a whopping 1,907 feet — a nod to the year Oklahoma gained statehood

Those uppity mid-westerners. Next thing you know they'll be wanting In-N-Out burgers and two hole outhouses.

You can go up top and see the tornadoes coming.

This is a silly idea. The building would ruin Bricktown. The Devon Tower, currently tallest in Oklahoma, is only 50 stories.

And just who would occupy the building? Commercial real estate is not exactly a hot commodity these days. Just think of how many migrants it could house.

I visited Oklahoma City a few years ago and was really impressed with their downtown area. It was really nice and a fun place to walk around.

Tornadoes aside, there is always wind blowing in Oklahoma. Some days in the spring it gets close to hurricane strength. Plants and garbage cans go flying. I would not go up in that building, ever. Makes no sense to me to build it here.

Agree with other posters. I lived in OKC for two years and the winds are incredible. I saw a dumpster blow across a parking lot like it was on ice. Tornadoes hit regularly. This is an unwise move.

#6 - I just finished reading "The Worst Hard Times", about life in the Dust Bowl during the 1930's. There was one period where the wind in the panhandle did not drop below 40 mph for over 100 consecutive hours. And if Matteson Capital is looking for tenants, they should build it quickly so that President Trump can relocate the Department of Agriculture there under a lease agreement - until he can eliminate it altogether.

Why? I have little regard for people who do things just to set records. Oklahoma has plenty of open land. The complex engineering and high price of building something that tall is a waste of good money IMHO.

Is this Texas expanding into Oklahoma? Article says Oklahoma City is one of the fastest growing areas in the US. I'll believe it. Hopefully it doesn't end up 90% unoccupied.

That could be the plan, #4.

They need to watch The Towering Inferno before approving the building permit.

Yes, I was going to say, an F4 or F5 just might take it out.

This is stupid for the reasons stated. The era of big tower office buildings is over, especially in areas that are not land-locked, which OK is not.

There is nothing between Oklahoma and the North Pole but a Barbed Wire Fence...now they want to make it official!

"Everything's up to date in Oklahoma,
They've gone about as high as they can go.
They've gone and built a skyscraper seven stories high,
About as high as a building ought to go."
Apologies to Rogers and Hammerstein who were singing about Kansas City in the musical "Oklahoma".
Good luck, with the new skyscraper. Hope it all works out.

Tallest. The largest building in the country is not in New York, anyway. (it seems the largest floor space belongs to the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, and the largest volume is Boeing's main assembly building in Everett, WA)

Interesting location. I wonder how it would stand up to tornadoes.
