Supreme Court signals it will claw back
federal agency power

The Supreme Court’s conservatives appeared inclined to cut back the regulatory power of federal agencies, with at least several justices during a pair of arguments Wednesday seeming ready to overrule a legal doctrine that has bolstered agencies’ authority for decades. Over more than three hours of argument, the justices put the Biden administration’s top Supreme Court lawyer on defense as she sought to preserve Chevron deference, which instructs courts to defer to agencies’ interpretation of federal law if it could have multiple meanings. The practice has strengthened presidential administrations’ ability to regulate wide aspects of daily life. The range of examples referenced at the arguments revealed the breadth of Chevron’s impact:

Perhaps this will eventually lead to rules and regs that the common citizen can understand. After years of dealing with labor and EPA paperwork, it became clear to me that the stuff was purposely made vague and often self-contradictory just to keep the bureaucrats on top.

I'll believe it when the corrupt Supreme Court actually issues a ruling that limits the communist Death Democrats Agencies. No doubt that sleazy Chief Injustice Roberts will be reminded of the compromising photos that the communist Death Democrats have of him on Epstein's island. Don't get your hopes up, besides the Communist Death Democrats will ignore it anyway.

The Biden administration seeks to preserve Chevron deference, which instructs courts to defer to agencies’ interpretation of federal law if it could have multiple meanings. There is a big problem when a federal law can have multiple meanings. Either a law mean one thing or it doesn't. To leave laws to squishy bureaucrats with an agenda can only lead to problems. As noted in the article, the meaning of a law can change from administration to administration or even from agency bureaucrat to agency bureaucrat. That is a big problem that can only lead to problems and confusion, along with conflicting rules and regulations.

The only reason for the Chevron doctrine is that, historically, most justices came out of the criminal justice system (DAs, judges, public defenders). There has always seemed to be a great interest in addressing even the most de minims criminal law case, while at the same time, booting all civil matters (especially zoning) to administrative agencies gifted 100 percent discretion and no oversight. There is no reason for it other than supreme court personal preference.

The deference to government "experts" is an appalling abdication of legislative authority and responsibility. I lay this more at the feet of Congress than at the Supreme Court. Congress has granted "authority" to promugate regulations as they see fit, provided they are Constitutional. The fact is that the constitutionality of the hundreds of thousands of regulations are rarely tested in court. Add to that the ruinous cost of litigation as the lawyers and judges stretch these challenges out for years and years, and you see why most people will roll over rather than bankrupt themselves. The entirety of the so-called administrative law legal system is a tyranny upon the people all by itself.

At least 70 percent of registered Chicago voters say they do not approve of far-left mayor Brandon Johnson’s performance after his first eight months in office, according to a new poll. The poll, conducted for the education-reform advocacy group Stand for Children, was designed to measure Chicagoans’ opinions on school-choice policy. However, the poll also contained generalized questions about the performance of local politicians. Voters were asked “how you feel each of the following is performing” in response to a list of names that included “Brandon Johnson as Chicago Mayor,” according to poll results obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. Stand for Children has not publicly released its poll data on local politicians.

NEW YORK — A jury has awarded an additional $83.3 million to former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, who says former President Donald Trump damaged her reputation by calling her a liar after she accused him of sexual assault. Friday’s verdict was the second time in nine months that a jury addressed Carroll’s claim that Trump assaulted her in a New York City department store in 1996. Another jury last May found Trump liable for sexual abuse and ordered him to pay $5 million. This defamation trial was over things Trump said about Carroll while he was president. Trump continues to insist he was falsely accused. The verdict was

In the war launched by Hamas and Gazans against Israel on October 7, only one side has publicly and repeatedly promised genocidal extinction to the other. The International Court of Justice has, predictably, decided that the target of that genocidal ambition has to answer for its self-defense. Weirdly, though, the ICJ decided to creep up on that position, demanding that Israel preserve ‘evidence’ of its genocidal actions while supplying more aid to their enemies at war: The United Nations’ top court has told Israel it must take measures to prevent its forces from committing acts of genocide against Palestinians — but stopped short of using its power to order a full cease-fire
