Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will retire at the end of this month, he announced Wednesday.
In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, he boasted of the House's accomplishments under his speakership.
'It is in this spirit that I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways. I know my work is only getting started,' he wrote.
'I will continue to recruit our country’s best and brightest to run for elected office. The Republican Party is expanding every day, and I am committed to lending my experience to support the next generation of leaders.'

Never one of my favorites, but the GOP can't keep shedding numbers and keep their tiny majority.

Kev, what's the rush? Just had to punish your own party to cover for your missteps in the House?
The pubbies are now down to a two-seat majority without an election. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory again? Pubbies, please find a way to keep control of the house. Somehow some way.

wow what a putz. he loves his voters so much that he leaves congress so gavin can name a replacement. another democrat! wow kev, way to show your appreciation for the office you were ELECTED to by the voters in your district. no respect at all! probably doing it on purpose, because he can't give the elbow to all his voters. so he just leaves.

McCarthy couldn't make it through the end of his term? No, it was never about the country, it was always about McCarthy, who as a Rino is trying to deconstruct the Republican majority in the House.

He could be the one who will replace Ronna McD. She is worthless. He knows all the big $$.

What Scum!
They really do HATE America. He waits until after they throw out Santos and then reduces our majority even more. I have no words that Lucianne will allow me to print but use your imaginations!

This is beginning to look intentional, first Santos and now him. It looks like the Rino's are trying to return control of the house to the dem's so they can get the agenda's they really want passed.

They are "retiring" on purpose just like they did when Paul Ryan was the speaker, so in case Trump wins, he has the entire congress against him. All part of the plan.

Is it possible that there are less sinister reasons for McCarthy to retire early?

Perhaps he is only looking to further enrich himself by selling out the nation as a lobbyist.

Rest assured Kevin is being richly rewarded with a position similar to Ryan where he can continue fighting MAGA efforts and secure Uniparty power. Shame on Bakersfield CA for not throwing this obvious sell-out years ago.
Kevin fights for the other side. We are NOT losing one of our own.

Newsome can't appoint a replacement, but he could delay the special election.
Santos wasn't going to run for reelection. Both McCarthy and Santos should have stuck around until Jan 25.

Congresscritters are making a hasty exit. I'm suspicious. What do they know that they are not telling constiuents? Of course they'll be collecting that Cadillac congressional retirement.

I have no words to express the feeling I have for republicans. Not even naughty words. There are no words. These people are as corrupt as democrats, but without the loyalty to their party. At least democrats vote lock step.
So now with the moronic, stupid, idiotic, feckless republicans we now only have a 2 seat majority. Between the deep state trying to steal the 2022 election (thank you Lee Zeldin for the surprise 4 NYS flips, now 3) and the POS McCarthy who could not for the sake of his party and country and voters, stick it out until the election next year, we will probably lose the House majority by, let's see March? Democrats, the media and of course, the deep state will single out two other republican congress critters to accuse of God knows what. And those traitorous 100+ republicans will vote to oust them. And Hakeem will be speaker.
Does anyone smell a conspiracy here? An orchestration at hand? I officially now hate republicans more than democrats.

"Kevin McCarthy Out of Congress" The article headline is misleading. It implies he may have been booted out, rather than state he is retiring.
