General Motors (GM) will slash spending in its self-driving car unit Cruise, after an accident last month seriously injured a pedestrian and prompted regulators to retract its operating permit for driverless cars in San Francisco.
The company will “substantially lower” its spending on Cruise next year, according to Mary Barra, GM’s CEO. “We expect the pace of Cruise’s expansion to be more deliberate when operations resume,” she said in a letter to shareholders. On an investor call, chief financial officer, Paul Jacobson, said that he expected spending to fall by “hundreds of millions of dollars” in 2024. Until the accident, Cruise had been operating driverless taxis in three

Disney CEO Bob Iger focused on instilling employees with renewed optimism about the Mouse House’s “blessed” and “fortunate” state during a virtual company-wide town hall Tuesday, rather than making any proclamations about the company’s future.
The event, moderated by ABC News anchor David Muir, was held just over a week after the one-year anniversary of Iger’s return to the helm at Disney (Iger hosted a similar town hall exactly a year ago to the day, upon resuming his post last November) following the surprise ousting of Bob Chapek, and on the heels of Disney reporting its most recent quarterly and full-fiscal-year earnings and taking a stumble at the Thanksgiving holiday

The White House said Tuesday that it opposes Israel’s plan to attack Hamas terrorists in the southern portion of the Gaza Strip unless it can provide an “accounting” for all of the internally displaced Palestinian civilians in the war.
White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby spoke to reporters on Air Force One, and said: “We don’t support southern operations, unless or until the Israelis can show that they’ve accounted for all the internally displaced people of Gaza.”
Asked whether that meant the White House was abandoning support for Israel’s goal of eliminating Hamas,

A Big Mac burger, a medium beverage, and a medium fry meal now costs 18 dollars in some locations, up $10 from 2018 when former President Donald Trump was president.
The skyrocketing costs could impact the 2024 election, as the soaring inflation under President Joe Biden reflects poorly on his economic plan of so-called “Bidenomics.”
The Big Mac Value Meal’s price increase is just one example of continued inflation, the New York Post’s editorial board reported:
Those [“President Biden’s terrible economic policies”] have driven prices overall about 15% higher since Biden came in; on essentials like food and energy, they’re up closer to 25%.
Equivalently, think of it as having slashed

Instagram’s Reels video service is designed to show users streams of short videos on topics the system decides will interest them, such as sports, fashion or humor.
The Meta Platforms-owned social app does the same thing for users its algorithm decides might have a prurient interest in children, testing by The Wall Street Journal showed.
The Journal sought to determine what Instagram’s Reels algorithm would recommend to test accounts set up to follow only young gymnasts, cheerleaders and other teen and preteen influencers active on the platform. Instagram’s system served jarring doses of salacious content to those test accounts, including risqué footage of children as well as overtly

A New York Republican jump-started the process to expel his embattled colleague, Rep. George Santos (R-NY), from the House, teeing up a likely vote on Thursday.
Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY) noticed a motion to expel Santos as privileged on Tuesday night, which means the House will now have two legislative days to take a vote. The resolution was originally filed by House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) nearly two weeks ago, but D'Esposito's move to expedite the process comes hours after two House Democrats filed their own privileged resolution to oust Santos.

Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, will reportedly sell a majority stake in the team to billionaire Miriam Adelson, widow of late businessman Sheldon Adelson, according to multiple reports. The Mavericks and Cuban didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Adelson said in a Las Vegas Sands filing earlier Tuesday she would sell $2 billion in stock to buy a majority stake in a sports franchise. But no franchise was named in the filing despite it saying there was a "binding purchase agreement." Sportico first reported that Cuban was going to sell to Adelson. The Athletic reported the deal

Alternate headline: Welcome to RICO 101.
The Guardian calls this an “exclusive,” and it may well be … as a reportable fact. In terms of expectations, though, we may as well learn that Georgia has a few peach trees and can get a wee bit humid. Prosecutors pushing RICO cases rarely offer an easy way out for the alleged top person in the alleged conspiracy, after all.
However, the report may be a surprise as to the number of people Fani Willis considers the top:
Fulton county prosecutors do not intend to offer plea deals to Donald Trump and at least two high-level co-defendants charged in connection

New York — Charlie Munger, a billionaire and long-time friend and business partner of Warren Buffett, has died. He was 99 years old.
Berkshire Hathaway said in a press release that Munger passed “peacefully” on Tuesday morning in a California hospital. No cause of death was given.
“Berkshire Hathaway could not have been built to its present status without Charlie’s inspiration, wisdom and participation,” CEO Warren Buffett said in the release. Charles Thomas Munger, known by his nickname, “Charlie,” was born on January, 1, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska. Munger served in the US Army during World War II after leaving the University of Michigan in 1943 at the age of 19.

The influential network associated with billionaire Charles Koch will throw its money and influence behind former South Caroline Gov. Nikki Haley in the Republican presidential primary, the group announced Tuesday.
The decision could dramatically reshape the Republican field – roughly seven weeks before the Iowa caucuses – as Americans for Prosperity Action deploys its vast resources and standing army of conservative activists on behalf of the former South Carolina governor. The endorsement marks the latest sign that powerful Republican donors are coalescing behind the candidacy of the former US ambassador to the United Nations. She has seen prominent figures join her campaign in recent weeks, particularly after

Hunter Biden is willing to testify publicly before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee on any day in December, according to his lawyer Abbe Lowell.
In a letter sent to Oversight chairman James Comer (R., Ky.), Lowell said the president’s son will testify before the congressional panel rather than show up to a private deposition. The correspondence was written in response to House Republicans subpoenaing Hunter Biden on November 8 for a closed-door deposition as part of the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The first reports about the medical conditions of the hostages released from Hamas captivity are out, and they aren't good.
The news comes on the heels of several dozen hostages being released as part of a rolling ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The halt in hostilities is expected to last as long as the terrorist government continues to release those they took captive on October 7th as planned. Israel has vowed to resume military action to destroy Hamas once the ceasefire ends. As to the condition of the hostages that have been returned, initial reports show signs of starvation and malnutrition.
