Washington Post associate editor and New York Times columnist freaked out on Friday’s PBS NewsHour at the news that Republicans selected Mike Johnson to be the new Speaker of the House by portraying him as a “far-right” religious extremist out to impose “Christian nationalism” on the country. Noting Johnson’s relative obscurity, Capehart predicted, “And the more information we find out about him and the more information the American people find out about him, the more I think they're going to be uncomfortable, from his pushing for a national abortion ban, to introducing legislation for a federal so-called Don't Say Gay Bill, his comments on homosexuality and same-sex marriage.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a primary challenge against the Lone State state’s longtime Sen. John Cornyn in what might shape up to be an ugly battle.
A Republican, Cornyn has held the U.S. Senate seat from Texas since 2002 while Paxton has been active in Texas politics since he ascended to attorney general in 2015. In his announcement, Paxton said the state needs a new senator to “stand up for Republican values.”

China said it is raising tariffs on U.S. imports from 34 percent to 84 percent starting Thursday, an announcement that came hours after President Trump’s tariffs went into effect.

I don't even know where to start with this one. Every time this woman opens her mouth, she says something dumber than the last time she spoke. Yes, you may have guessed that I'm talking about the most obnoxious person in politics at the moment, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).
Apparently, Crockett was the guest speaker at the 125th Anniversary Program at Grace Baptist Church in Connecticut over the weekend, and while I've only seen a minute or so of her speech, it didn't come across as very Godly or Christian-like. WASHINGTON — The White House warned Monday that President Trump would veto a bipartisan bill that would mandate congressional approval of all tariffs should it arrive on his desk.
Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said the measure introduced last week by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) “would severely constrain the President’s ability to use authorities long recognized by Congress and upheld by the courts to respond to national emergencies and foreign threats.”
