This week, a federal judge ruled that a California law banning so-called “assault weapons” is unconstitutional as it violates the Second Amendment. According to the Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of San Diego conceded that sporting rifles like AR-15s are used by those who commit crimes. However, these kinds of guns are also owned by law-abiding citizens who have firearms to protect themselves. “The State of California posits that its ‘assault weapon’ ban, the law challenged here, promotes an important public interest of disarming some mass shooters

Well of course it's unconstitutional. Most everything coming from the Sacramento legislature these days qualifies for that distinction. They've mutated into a socialist dumpster fire of a government.

ALL gun control is unconstitutional. It is nice to see a judge say so though.

Re #4. And watch as the SCOTUS' Bruen decision is implimented fully, and they will all disappear. Much antigunner screetching will accompany this, and desperate attempts to "find a way". There is no way, other than to replace the Supreme Court and have a new court override the Bruen decision. Not impossible, but also very unlikely. Welcome to the 2nd Amendment as it was INTENDED. "The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." And they didn't infringe at all until the 1911, and then the National Firearms Act in 1934. I'm wondering if the NFA restrictions on silencers, automatic weapons and short barreled "long" guns will stand? Probably, since they are "just" taxes, but they are clear infringements.

A New York Times report published Saturday detailed how Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) presidential campaign lost the online war to former President Donald Trump, which has coincided with his drop in the polls. DeSantis’s camp attempted to organize an online eco-system of prominent conservative influencers to lead the charge against prominent pro-Trump influencers and the 45th president’s campaign on social media in May at a secret meeting at the home of a DeSantis pollster, the New York Times first reported Saturday. The event backfired and “had the opposite effect” on some of the twelve or so prominent influencers there who admired DeSantis, three people who were at the meeting told the Times,

Republicans reveal a $200,000 personal check from James Biden to Joe Biden that they say is the strongest evidence yet that the president was directly involved in his family's business dealings. According to bankruptcy court documents obtained by the House Oversight Committee, James Biden took money from his health care business Americore and sent it directly to his brother Joe Biden. The documents show that in 2018, James Biden obtained $600,000 in loans from Americore. James was able to receive the loans based upon 'representations' that his last name, 'Biden,' could 'open doors.'

Former President Donald Trump privately conveyed to allies on Friday he does not back House Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s bid for speaker, throwing another wrench into an already chaotic process to find the next person to hold the gavel. Trump’s conversations come as Emmer has begun privately expressing his interest in the post. The Minnesota Republican, who has been making calls to fellow lawmakers, has emerged as an early frontrunner, having received the endorsement of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. But a sustained offensive from Trump, if one materializes, could spell doom, as any candidate for the job can only afford to lose a handful of votes.

There are many cultural ties, including religion, of course, and intriguing economic similarities, especially in their respective social instincts for entrepreneurialism, technology, and capital markets. Israel and the United States are also “New World” countries, formed in large part on the basis of religious and political freedom. At a current national security level, the two countries share a similar strategic threat from enemies at their borders and, in some respects, enemies internally

But Democratic strategists told the Daily Caller the president has handled the Israel-Hamas war well, giving numerous public appearances and even presenting himself as a strong commander-in-chief.

The GOP opposition to Jordan’s bid had steadily grown with each successive ballot: 2o members of the caucus voted against him on the first ballot and 22 voted against him the second time around.

Before epilepsy was understood to be a neurological condition, people believed it was caused by the moon, or by phlegm in the brain. They condemned seizures as evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession, and killed or castrated sufferers to prevent them from passing tainted blood to a new generation. Today we know epilepsy is a disease. By and large, it’s accepted that a person who causes a fatal traffic accident while in the grip of a seizure should not be charged with murder. That’s good, says Stanford University neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky. That’s progress. But there’s still a long way to go.
