Less than a week after being indicted, Senator Bob Menendez (D., N.J.) pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal corruption charges related to his allegedly taking bribes in an influence-peddling scheme that involved Egypt.
Despite Democratic calls for his resignation, Menendez has denied any wrongdoing on his part. He allegedly pocketed over $100,000 worth of gold bars and nearly $500,000 in cash, among other luxurious gifts.
His not-guilty plea comes as many Democratic politicians call for his resignation. His wife, Nadine, also pleaded not guilty before a federal judge in Manhattan.
In both the Menendez and Trump cases, prosecutors are engaging in the questionable tactic of seeking to influence the jury before trial.

Police in the city said that a large group of around 100 juveniles kept moving from store to store and looting them.
Videos shared on social media show officers attempting to grab thieves, some of whom are wearing Halloween masks, as they run riot through a Lululemon store. One officer manages to hit one of the looters with a punch after managing to tackle them to the ground, in social media footage.
