Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, a longtime Democrat, said he's switched parties to become a Republican. “Today I am changing my party affiliation,” Johnson wrote in an op-ed published Friday in The Wall Street Journal. “Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican.” Johnson served in the Texas Legislature for nine years as a Democrat before he was elected mayor in 2019. I have long posted that party switchers may be trouble. Most of them only do so when the wind changes. Otherwise, why wait years to switch when you were aware of the shenanigans all along.

As a general rule, I never trust a Dem who switches.....unless there is a good history of actions and voting that proves some commitment to conservative issues. I have no connection to this guy, but I'm betting that Texans who know him will tell us if he's for real or not.

Unless a party-switcher can explain why their views have changed, then I can only assume they are switching for reasons other than that...such as expediency, money, etc...which do not inspire me to support them. There is even a chance they are doing so intentionally, to run for their next office as a Manchurian candidate....which also does not inspire me to support them.

Well, since Dallas city proper is pretty solid D, this is an interesting switch. I suspect he was looking at some serious primary competition next time around and by moving to the R side of the aisle, he's more-or-less guaranteed the Republican nomination and can draw from some more moderate voters in the general election, since Democrat primaries are basically measures of how woke you are. Back in the 80s, when many of the rural or semi-suburban counties in Texas were moving from D to R, one of our local more un-savory Dem politicians made the move to the Republican party. Privately, he said that the decision was picking which R he wanted: Rejected (as a Democrat), Retire (quit), or Re-elect (as a Republican). He, as most, chose the latter choice.

His switching parties AND being Black is good news. The GOP can work with that. Rest assured he doesn't hew to all the Republican wants in terms of policies. But if we want to be a more dominant party, then we dare not be purists and require some adherence to a litmus test. We have to understand that the GOP does not need to be as far right and arrogant as the Dimocrats are to the left.

I agree with poster #25. A good example is out in the State of Nebraska where some elected DC politicians while they were in Nebraska campaigning claimed to be conservative Republicans, then after arrival in DC, based upon their records there, popped up as RINOs. In this case just watch that guy’s politics and you will see where he really stands pretty quickly. Former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska is one, who after being elected showed that he was in actuality a RINO, thus made himself unelectable in Nebraska, and who in the end turned out to be openly an Obama guy.

London - One of Ukraine’s closest and most vocal allies has now said it will stop sending arms to Kyiv, a major reversal that threatens to upend Europe’s strategic relationship with the country as it wages a counteroffensive against Russia. Poland’s decision was both sudden and predictable, coming after months of tensions over a temporary ban on Ukrainian grain imports to a number of European Union countries. It also follows a pattern of increasingly confrontational behavior towards Kyiv from Poland’s government, just weeks before a tight general election. And it could have implications for Ukraine’s attempts to push Russian forces

Iran's parliament has passed a controversial bill that would increase prison terms and fines for women and girls who break its strict dress code. Those dressed "inappropriately" face up to 10 years in jail under the bill, for which a three-year "trial" was agreed. It still needs to be approved by the Guardian Council to become law. It was a sentiment long felt by many in the country, but after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) recent decision to nix the Senate’s dress code and, in turn, obliterate the regard, respect, and dignity of the office, Schumer and the Democrats erased any doubt about ushering in societal rot and the nation’s decline.
