On August 28, 1963, I participated in my first protest march on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. On January 6, 2021, I participated in my last. Over many of the intervening years I watched the United States, as exemplified by the August 1963 march, make great strides in living up to the lofty goals set forth in its Declaration of Independence. However, in recent years I have ruefully observed this nation, as exemplified by the January 6, 2021 march, inexplicably choose to set itself on the same road of inevitable self-destruction that so many failed societies have traveled.
It was an overcast, albeit mild August day

Jan 6 is nothing more than the Democrat party's excuse for a Reichstag fire. Just as the Nazis used an 'attack' on their legislative building to consolidate power and increase one party rule, so too the modern US Nazi party called Democrats. Who says History doesn't repeat itself?

Comparing January 6th to Hitler's Reichstag's fire was an obvious analogy that arose immediately, and not very original for the author. I do have another bone to pick with him over the last quarter of his article. He has a list of commie policy achievements brought about solely because "they remained silent." "They" being defined as: "An ever-growing number of increasingly self-absorbed citizens, reveling in unprecedented peace and prosperity, chose to remain silent as their nation was being incrementally transformed."
I'm really surprised because I usually like Steve McCann's work, but he's way off base with his suppositions that all the ills of our society and political system lie at the feet of the people. He claims "we", collectively as Americans, did nothing to fight against the Left's takeover of education, their fanning of racial tensions, the underpinning of religion by promoting sexual freedom, the endless wars, globalism, national bankruptcy, open borders, illegal immigration, changing voting laws, mail-in ballots, early voting, and the socialists' takeover of the Democrat Party!
I don't know about y'all, but this really chaps my hide! I guess for the last fifty years we've been sitting on the beach drinking Margaritas! (Heavy sarcasm, off) American citizens elected a D.C. outsider that represented the heartland named Ronald Reagan, and our internal enemies promptly attempted to assassinate him. I remember Ross Perot getting a sizeable following when he offered an alternative to the Uniparty, or the "two-party system" as we still knew it back then. He was frightened off. We thought we had elected a conservative with "W", but sadly we've since found the knife wounds in our backs. Then there was a little grassroots movement known as the Tea Party that shook up the establishment for a few years, until the weight of the IRS was brought down upon us. I wouldn't exactly call that doing nothing!
All of that effort, work and enthusiasm rose to a peak when Donald J. Trump announced his run for the presidency. We finally had a leader; a true champion with a hero's heart and fire in the belly for the fight. In every great human epic tale; the hero wins the first victory, is beaten back by the foe, then regroups for the final battle against the evil forces. We are in the "re-grouping" phase where we separate the men from the boys, the women from the girls. I don't need Steve McCann's "woe is me" whining, or wallowing in victimhood and helplessness. I'm an American Woman.

As suspected, the J6 crowd was incited to violence:
"The police soon began indiscriminately using flashbangs and tear gas thereby injuring and inciting heretofore peaceful protestors. These same police soon stepped aside and opened the doors which had been unlocked from the inside, effectively inviting the protestors into the Capitol."

The whole plot of Jan. 6 was a plan put in place by Nancy Pelosi and the democrats to frighten any Republican or Conservative future protests on the mall.
