History provides examples of third-party presidential candidates swinging elections. Ross Perot denied George H.W. Bush a second term in 1992, running on the Reform Party ticket and garnering 18.9% of the popular vote. Bill Clinton won with only 43.0%. In 1980, Congressman John Anderson ran an incoherent candidacy yet captured 6.6% of votes. Reagan prevailed over Carter 50.7% to 41.0%. It is unclear if Anderson’s bid was engineered by Reagan’s campaign to split votes from Carter. Teddy Roosevelt's 1912 third-party run split Republican votes, yielding Woodrow Wilson, the first progressive leftist president.
Now comes RFK Jr. with a platform exhibiting substantial overlap with the MAGA agenda.

RFK would be better for the country's dignity than Biden, but not going to vote for him. He is a climate alarmist and an authoritarian. And not pro-life, although that is less important at the federal level than it used to be.

While RFK,JR. has at times almost sounded like a Trump advocate, I don't think he can pull off the sounds like Trump for any length of time to convince people that he's like that. The loon in him will rear its ugly head too often.

RFK, jr is talking commonsense about a few key items, but when push comes to shove, bottom line he is still a Kennedy and a loon. People still remember how good the economy was during the Trump presidency and that is what scares democrats. A good economy means they cannot train wreck the nation.

I've been around for a lot longer than the 1980 campaign, and I've never heard a word or a breath about Ronald Reagan's campaign "engineering" Anderson's run for the White House. Sounds like BS to me.

It’s awfully convenient now to look back and armchair quarterback the Covid mess. If you’ve read any of the narratives from those in the Trump administration, you know the pressure he was under to cower to the global fear of the unknown. Even Dr. Peter Navarro, whom I love, was telling him he must shut the country down and was a huge proponent of the vaccines. As I remember it, Trump was one of the cooler heads at the time and only agreed to the minimum amount of shut down, even against his better instincts. The moment he was getting the picture of the economic harm, he reversed course, against the advice of 90% of national and global leadership. As far as vaccines, who in their right mind would ever suspect that pharmaceutical companies were so corrupt that they would intentionally work with One Worlders to cull the planet’s human population? He’s not a scientist, and up until Covid, vaccines had a fairly good reputation. He trusted “the experts,” as any competent executive would do. He never said, nor intended, that they needed to be mandatory. The fear that drove the planet at that time was like nothing I’ve ever seen. Most of the mouthpieces now railing against his handling of it would’ve done no better.

I suspect that most of us are as bewildered as I with the lack of certainty and conflicting opinions about the Vaccine, source of the virus, and what to do bout it if anything. From my confused viewpoint, it is time for Trump to admit that forcing the Vaccine was-is an actual and political nightmare that continues to evolve.
