The public opinion tide begins to turn
against electric vehicles

We have been swimming upstream for years here at American Thinker, arguing that conversion of the automobile fleet to electric vehicles is a mistake, harming the environment more than helping it, and utterly impractical for a variety of reasons, including charging time and an entirely inadequate electrical grid, already at the breaking point.
Yet the green image (and the subsidies) continue, impervious to the reality. (Snip)
However, there are signs that the gravity of the practical problems with E.V. conversion are sinking in. Rowan Atkinson, who has become a global icon portraying "Mr. Bean," a character Atkinson describes as "a child in a man's body," is publicly raising these questions.

Sooner or later, like the Left’s fantasy with solar and wind—5% of the electrical power—the EV Green hysteria will collapse and implode on its ridiculous propaganda. Everything about it—from its inefficiencies in travel distance to the slave labor and environmental hazards involved, to their costs, to their exploding on the streets, to the 45 minute electrical charging time on your trips, and the myriad of other inconveniences, The Evil EV is doomed. It’s a Marxist concept from beginning to end.

The end game is not to provide clean energy/transportation to the masses. The end game is to deprive them of both those things, clean or otherwise. From that perspective, the green revolution appears as if it will be a smashing success.

Public opinion has always been skeptical of an all electric vehicle. Hybrids are much more practical and don't have the charging time, or range issues associated with a full electric vehicle. The real issue is cost. Even with incentives, electric vehicles are still expensive and dealers have no real idea how much an all electric vehicle is worth on trade in, and the cost to replace batteries is enormous. Add in the availability of charging stations and the possibility of a spontaneous fire, getting an electric vehicle is a huge financial risk most people just can't afford.

The current volcano eruptions in Hawaii and Indonesia - - will spew more "pollutants" into the atmosphere - - than can be saved by 1,000 years of worldwide golf carts.
Only ignorant, delusional leftists can possibly believe - - that mankind's puny efforts could have a significant effect on the world's climate. We can't cure stupid - - but we can crush it.

Spouse and I have owned a Ford Maverick hybrid pick up since last October. 49 mpg and close to 600 miles per tank of gas. This is a much better option than the all electric. Our fuel bill has been slashed by half and we can travel just as much as in a conventional gas or diesel powered vehicle.
We don’t have the infrastructure to support all electric and, as stated earlier, it’s not all that clean, anyhow. Hybrid is the best of both worlds.

Mr. Atkinson may have a degree in EE, but he is woefully uneducated on the climate change hoax, buying in to the basic false assumption that SOMETHING needs to be done about internal combustion engines.
"we're realising that a wider range of options need to be explored if we're going to properly address the very serious environmental problems that our use of the motor car has created,"
Assuming he is talking about CO2, it's not serious, it's not a problem, it's a hoax.

The technological limitations of these devices make them 1) way too expensive, and very slow and inconvenient to "refuel", and the absolute nail in the coffin is that their real world range is only suitable for commuter vehicles, not for general purpose vehicles.
Forget it.

Never forget. CO2 is a beneficial trace gas which is absolutely necessary for the growth of any and all green plants. Current levels of atmospheric CO2 are 1) so low that they suppress green plant growth and 2) almost entirely disconnected from human activities, with 96% of CO2 emissions from sources like volcanoes which are entirely beyond any human control.
Human activities have no affect on global climate.
CO2 is beneficial.
Take your electric vehicles, solar and wind "power" frauds and jam them.

Common sense will tell you that there is no way that the country can generate enough electric power to run all the electric furnaces, corporate and household appliances and tools, and on top of that all the electric trucks and vehicles that Biden and the leftist Democrats dream about transforming the country to after doing away with coal, gasoline, and oil. That’s just not going to happen, no matter what future bogus Executive Orders that the leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrats wrangle Biden to sign and the liberal media to tout.

The main untruth is in the title of the article, the tide was never with electric vehicles, it's all been a push by a group of radical environmentalists who have a pipe dream of returning us to the eighteenth century. All they needed to do was give enough money in campaign contributions to equally stupid politicians to get this insane ball rolling. We won't have to stop them because common sense and true science is stopping them while we watch them make fools of themselves. Those who bought Teslas so they could be considered cool and caring are soon going to quietly dispose of them before anybody notices.

Wonder what will happen to companies like Ford which has stated they are going all electric. The change from horses to ICE cars was market driven. The current drive to switch to electric is government driven. As many have pointed out the goal of the war on so-called fossil fuels is not to switch people to EVs but to force them to use public transportation. There is no public transportation in rural areas and in urban it's way too dangerous.

One of my hopes in the years to come is that all those responsible for the deaths which will occur (and already have occurred) from the malfeasance of the "climate scientists" and their climate crisis scam, "medical researchers/personnel" and their chicom flu vaccine/transgender scam, "environmentalist activist" and their overregulation/alternative energy scam, and elected and unelected reps/bureaucrats who aided in bringing about all the above will be held responsible and be up for the death penalty for their actions. Big pipe dream, huh?

Consider this scenario:
I live about 300 miles from most of my family. If we all MUST have electric cars, the range I can drive is about 300 miles. Lets assume I can just barely make it to their area. I have to stay at a hotel when I visit because they don't have extra room. So I need to get my car charged up. Unless I can find a high speed charging station (not so common because of cost to install), I have to have to seek out a charging station and SIT THERE FOR 8+ HOURS while my car charges. In addition, the cost of a charge at such stations would about be the same as getting gas for the same trip (charging on the road is far more expensive than a home setup).
A 10 hour drive, 600+ miles, would require driving 5 hours, recharging 8 hours, driving 5 hours, recharging 8 hours. I would spend 1 1/2 times the time spent driving at a recharging station. THAT IS INSANE.
Imagine the inefficiency impact on people who have to travel around for a living. Guess who will pay for that ... the people who use their products will pick up the time wasted costs.
Also, the ability to mine the rare earths for all the batteries required for electric only cars AND the replacement of their batteries every 10 years is impossible to accomplish and would wreak environmental catastrophe on the areas where mining took place.
The insanity of requiring all electric vehicles is breath taking.

As a mathematician/computer analyst by profession, I must be one of the very few who has actually done the calculations on the real impacts on our electrical grid from the mandates to convert to EVs. Forget the inconveniences being mentioned by actual users of EVs regarding charging times, etc. The fact is, we are heading for total, catastrophic failure of our electrical grid. Period.
As an example, the calculations for California alone show that if every passenger vehicle there had to be replaced by an EV, the state would have to increase its electric general capacity by 1,000%! I use that as an example because the goofy government there has already passed a law outlawing non-EV cars in the next decade AND already scheduled the deactivation of its last nuclear plant, with no equivalent replacement scheduled. This isn't just goofy, it's downright insane, and dangerous. There simply will not be enough electricity for cars, homes, businesses, anything.
Why isn't the media asking serious questions of these nutty politicians? No balls, no Math gene I guess.

EV were mis-sold as environmentally sound. They are not. Buying an EV to save the earth is anti-science silliness.
I bought an EV because my maintenance costs are literally zero and my fuel costs are almost zero. The sum total of my Tesla maintenance has been new tires and wind shield washer fluid my mechanic put in for free anyway when I was getting new tires.
The costs for my non-EV is $100 a week in gas, typical maintenance every 5k is a few hundred bucks, tires of course, and right now is in the shop for a week and I'm looking at about 5-6k after my manufacturer and third party warranty covered several thousand more plus the 4k I paid for that extended warranty.
Long term, an EV costs less to run than an ICE. It's just math.
I don't care about the planet. That's why I own an EV.

Also, it does not take 8 hours to charge a Tesla at a charging station. That is simply wrong.
It takes 20-30m to go from near zero to 80%.
Don't make stuff up if you want to be taken seriously. You know who you are.

RE #20, yes, no ability to gasp mathematics or construction times and costs.
Building ten times the power capacity will cost California trillions, and if they don't use coal or natural gas plants.....they will have to cover the entire state in very expensive solar panels, and a spider web of transmission lines.
Trillions of dollars...for one state.
Completely unworkable.
And their claimed "need" is FRAUDULENT. CO2 is not harmful but beneficial.
Even if CO2 actually were harmful, human activities are responsible for only 4% of CO2 emissions in a given year. Eliminate ALL human CO2 output, and 96% of CO2 still enters the atmosphere, and nothing changes significantly, except our lives are dramatically less convenient. And without diesel tractors and combines, trucks, etc, hundreds of millions will starve worldwide due to agricultural inefficiency increases.

Action better be taken very soon, as the Biden administration is mandating 60% of new vehicles to be electric by 2030. It is apparent that the Biden administration does not care what the people like, or want.

Electric vehicles are a "solution" to a "problem" that simply doesn't exist.
And the technology is still at least a decade or two away from making EV's as realistic possible replacements for internal combustion engines. Not to mention that they produce even more pollution in their manufacturing and battery replacements than a combustion engine produces in its life.
But this is what happens when a bunch of brain-dead lie-berals obsess on their totally illogical "green" ideal -- which are all about lie-beral control of the masses of peasants and nothing about the environment!!!!!

#32, that is great if you are driving around town and there are actually Tesla charging stations galore in your big city.
But we drove from Austin, TX, to Port Angeles, WA, last year. As we drove down those interstates and rural highways, we saw plenty of gas stations but zero Tesla charging stations. As we got into larger cities, we might have seen a couple of EV charging stations at some of the gas stations, but they were never the fancy Tesla ones. We stopped at a truck stop and gas station to get something to eat relax after having driven for like 8 straight hours. There were two EV charging stations with two EV's using them. An hour later when we left, those same two cars were charging and there were 5 EV's waiting in line. Meanwhile, it never took us more than 10 minutes (including using the restrooms and stretching our legs) to fill up our crossover SUV with gas and get back on the road.
Austin is a headquarters for Tesla. My neighbor works for Tesla. He has a very fancy Tesla that he drives around town. But when he goes on a vacation or road trip, his 6-cylinder Highlander comes out of the garage. And he is the first that will tell you that EV's just aren't road-trip practical!!!

One may observe that what can't go on forever will at some point end. The climate change hoax and its obsession with depriving all the ordinary people of the common benefits of modern civilization may end but before it does it will have caused unmeasured losses and may even lead to mass starvation. What do we have to lose except our lifestyle, our fortunes, or liberties and perhaps our lives? Of course the media will continue to tell the masses that things have never been better.
