Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has mobilized special units to the southern border to assist the U.S. Border Patrol as the end of Title 42 approaches and large numbers of migrants are expected to cross into the United States.
Speaking to the Southwestern Border Sheriff's Coalition in McAllen, Abbott told sheriffs from 33 counties that Texas will send units to keep an eye on the border and assist agents.
"Pull out your calculator and do the math. If you were to average that out on a daily basis across an entire year, it would mean more than six million people coming across the border in a single year,"

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on April 20 issued a temporary administrative hold on the return date of the House Judiciary Committee’s congressional subpoena to Mark Pomerantz, a former prosecutor at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.
Pomerantz investigated former President Donald Trump’s finances before leaving Bragg’s office in February 2022 in protest of Bragg’s initial unwillingness to bring an indictment against Trump. Bragg then brought the indictment against Trump in late March, prompting Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chair of the House Judiciary Committee, to initiate a probe into what Jordan calls a “politically motivated” prosecution against a former president.

An author of the now-debunked public statement from 51 intelligence officials casting doubt on the bombshell Hunter Biden laptop story revealed this month to Congress that Antony Blinken, then a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, was the impetus for the statement.
Former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell testified to the House Judiciary Committee on April 4 that now-Secretary of State Blinken called him about the laptop story just days after the New York Post published it and that the call “triggered” Morell to draft the statement.
Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Michael Turner (R-OH), chairmen of the Judiciary and Intel Committees, respectively, made the revelation on Thursday

President Joe Biden, 80, is expected to finally announce his 2024 reelection bid, with a video rollout on Tuesday.
The Washington Post reported Thursday on the plans - with the date selected to coincide with when Biden launched his successful 2020 bid for the White House four years before.
Biden took his time getting into the 2020 race, but announced he would mount a run via a video message released on April 25, 2019. While he vanquished former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, there are questions about his age - he's the oldest American president - and whether his sluggish poll numbers

A former acting CIA director has admitted to Congress that he organized the letter that falsely portrayed Hunter Biden's laptop as Russian disinformation in an effort to influence the 2020 election in favor of Joe Biden and that he did so at the direction of current Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to a letter released Thursday by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan.
The extraordinary admission by career intelligence officer Michael J. Morell provides stunning evidence that the now-infamous letter from 51 security officials in October 2021 was not an organic intelligence community initiative but rather a political dirty trick originating with Blinken and the Biden campaign.

The use of plural pronouns (“they/them”) to refer to a single person has insidiously crept into our language. This practice is especially common in mass media publications and other establishment writings. It is more than a mere passing fad. It is time for us to understand what this trend really means for all of us. One recent example I noticed was linked by msn.com and included the headline, “Non-Binary Ex-Biden Staffer Sam Brinton's Family Calls Them A Liar, Claims Their Abuse Story Never Happened.” The headline is incomprehensible by traditional rules of grammar. The reader would not know who is meant by “Them” and “Their.”

An interesting argument from an even more interesting source, considering that the Wall Street Journal shares an owner with Fox News. News of the utterly predictable decision by the Murdochs to settle the Dominion defamation suit prompted wailing and gnashing of teeth from competitors and journalists throughout the land, who had wanted the court to force Fox and its hosts to admit on the air that they lied about “stop the steal.” WSJ’s editors quote Politico’s overwrought observation that “hopes were dashed — dreams torpedoed” as “hilariously revealing,” but as I noted yesterday, they were hardly alone in weeping over a lost apology.

A mysterious flash which lit up skies over Ukraine's capital on Wednesday night generated much speculation.
Officials in Kyiv initially suspected it was a Nasa satellite falling to Earth but the US space agency told the BBC it was still in orbit.

On Wednesday, Florida lawmakers passed a bill supported by Governor Ron DeSantis, which will allow for the death penalty to be imposed on individuals convicted of sexually abusing children.
HB 1297, otherwise known as the Capital Sexual Battery law, provides the death penalty for certain child sexual offenders. Separate death penalty proceedings are required, with a jury making findings and recommendations on whether the defendant should be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole or to death.
The bill from the Florida Legislature amends the law regarding sexual battery committed against children under the age of 12. The amendment provides for the possibility of imposing the death penalty

A sizable majority of likely voters believe that the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, was provoked by government agents secretly operating in the crowds, a stunning rejection of the blame that Justice Department prosecutors and a special House panel have put squarely on the head of former President Donald Trump. While many had suspicions of undercover agents fanning anger in the crowd about Trump’s electoral loss to President Joe Biden, the airing of never-before-seen videos by Fox’s Tucker Carlson jumped that number to 65% in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey.

Gov. Gavin Newsom promised two years ago to appoint a Black woman to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein if she resigned. If he merely appointed a temporary “caretaker” would that honor his pledge? I wouldn’t think so. It wouldn’t be in keeping with the spirit of his promise. The governor seemed to be swearing that if given the opportunity, he would fill a glaring Senate void and make sure there was at least one Black woman member of America’s most prestigious and powerful legislative body. She’d be a full-fledged senator, not a temp. She would follow in the footsteps of California’s

Senate Republicans had a shot at successfully passing a vital resolution in the Democrat-controlled upper chamber that would protect Americans from funding abortions. Instead of allying with their own on an issue that has set the GOP apart from the left for decades, however, at least two of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s closest allies sided with Democrats’ radical abortion agenda when they voted 51 to 48 not to proceed with the legislation.

Unexpectedly and unintentionally, the hiring of Dylan Mulvaney as a celebrity endorser of Bud Light has provided a clarifying moment for conservatives. Two prominent Trump administration veterans have emerged as embodiments of the two strategic options that Republican officeholders and activists have traditionally embraced:
Defer to major donors because “money is the mother’s milk of politics.”
Go scorched earth on those who side with the forces trying to destroy our culture, society, and/or economy. (snip) A couple of days ago, Donald Trump, Jr. was advocating for option 1

Happy Thursday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. (Snip) A quick look around at what’s going on in Washington reveals that the Democrats aren’t a real healthy group of people. The man masquerading as President of the United States of America is just as likely wax on and on about gargoyles slathering scented oils on his recently shaven torso as he is about policy during a speech.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein — the oldest member of the Senate — has been physically out of commission since February.
And Pennsylvania freshman Sen. John Fetterman just returned from his lengthy absence to deal with his physical and mental health (but probably really just his physical health).

Of course ghosts exist.
Before dismissing the idea as absurd, consider that ghosts always come from the past. You can’t have a ghost from the future. But the past speaks to us all the time. We expect things to be where we left them, unless something caused them to move because causality is the foundation of reality. Causes precede their effects and effects follow causes, or so we think. Perhaps the most famous literary exposition of this idea was Ray Bradbury’s story “A Sound of Thunder.” A party of time travelers go into the past to hunt dinosaurs. Someone steps on a butterfly and changes the whole future.

Not too long ago, Joe Biden held President Trump up to scorn for his immigration policies, calling them 'inhumane,' 'criminal,' and a 'stain.'
Biden denounced Trump's separation of families policies intended to disincentivize family migration rackets, given that the law required detention for adults caught crossing the U.S. border illegally, but not children. The policy had been started under President Obama, so it was hardly his idea. Biden made such an issue of it he even sought out separated families and tried to make them millionaires through torts payouts, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer, based on all the supposed 'harm' of the separation following their thousand mile

Fox News host Tucker Carlson didn’t hold back in crucifying Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) over his latest financial reports showing luxury travel to Miami and New York paid for by campaign donors.
“When he’s not shagging Chinese spies, he gets to travel all over the world at his donors’ expense,” joked Carlson, referencing Swalwell’s relationship with Christine Fang in an alleged Chinese honeypot operation. “If he wants to he can hang out on the beach in a Hawaiian shirt with an umbrella drink, gold chains, and a chest wig.”

The Manhattan district attorney's attempt to block a former prosecutor from testifying in Congress about efforts to prosecute Donald Trump failed on Wednesday, with a judge ruling that Mark Pomerantz could be called to testify.
Pomerantz worked for years on the Trump investigation, but left the job after clashing with Alvin Bragg, the district attorney, over the direction of the case.
He recently wrote a book about his work pursuing Trump and discussed the investigation in interviews on 60 Minutes and other shows.

Vermont’s self-described socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders is a nonstop cheerleader for a minimum-wage hike. Recently, in Britain’s Guardian newspaper, he once again called for a huge increase in the minimum wage. Sounds generous, until you realize it would in fact hurt most the working poor, those who supposedly would reap the greatest benefits of a boosted minimum wage.
“Whether they are greeting us at Walmart, serving us hamburgers at McDonald’s, providing childcare for our kids or waiting on our table at a diner in rural America, there are too many Americans trying to survive and raise families on $9, $10 or $12 an hour,” Sanders wrote.

On April 22, 1919, on his 50th birthday, Lenin gave an interview to London’s Daily Chronicle and made stunning revelations about the Bolshevik's struggle to destroy capitalism. (snip) Lenin declared, “Debauch the currency to overturn the basis of society.” The destruction of currency was the main component of the Bolshevik strategy. (snip) By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. By this method, they not only confiscate, but they confiscate arbitrarily…. Lenin was certainly right; there is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency.

What qualities should medical schools look for in future doctors? Probably academic excellence, experience in the medical sector, loyalty to medical ethics, and good interpersonal skills.
These are all characteristics that future doctors should have, but they’re not what medical schools now emphasize. Medical schools are looking for social justice zealots to advance the diversity, equity, and inclusion dogma.
(Snip) Harvard asks applicants to share “an important aspect of [their] personal background or identity,” and the school expressly suggests that applicants focus on “significant challenges in access to education, unusual socioeconomic factors, identification with a minority culture, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Move over “Dick and Jane.” A different approach to teaching kids how to read is on the rise.
For decades, two schools of thought have clashed on how to best teach children to read, with passionate backers on each side of the so-called reading wars. The battle has reached into homes via commercials for Hooked on Phonics materials and through shoebox dioramas assigned by teachers seeking to instill a love of literature.
But momentum has shifted lately in favor of the “science of reading.” The term refers to decades of research in fields including brain science that point to effective strategies for teaching kids to read.

New York City’s vegan mayor Eric Adams wants to limit the amount of meat people can eat in an effort to combat climate change.
Adams wants to reduce food-based gas emissions by 33% in the next 7 years.
“Food is the third-biggest source of cities’ emissions right after buildings and transportation. But all food is not created equal. The vast majority of food that is contributing to our emission crises lies in meat and dairy products,” Adams said.“According to new data released by the city, 20% of the Big Apple’s greenhouse gas emissions come from food production and consumption.

The real, true, and final end of pandemic-era measure “Title 42,” which allowed for the quick expulsion of all illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, is nigh.
Set to end May 11, the title was a potent deterrent when former President Donald Trump applied it to almost 90% of all illegal crossing immigrants and far less so under the President, who expelled only 35%.
I predict big trouble is on the way to the southern border, from which I’ve just returned.
In Juarez, thousands of immigrants are living in abandoned buildings, sleeping on the streets, and many hundreds more a day show up on freight trains.

Dr Phil on Tuesday warned an economics professor's plan for $350,000 in reparations to 40 million descendants of slaves would be 'an absolute disaster', arguing that giving a lump sum was not the best way to help anyone.
The television host on Tuesday invited on his show Duke University's William Darity, who co-authored the book 'From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century'.
Darity suggested the US government issue the funds in much the same way it sent out checks to millions of Americans during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, at a cost of $14 trillion.
