Former first lady Michelle Obama revealed that she was not invited to the White House for the hanging of her official portrait, in a veiled swipe at former President Donald Trump. When asked whether she had returned to the White House, Michelle Obama said that "wasn’t invited" during an interview with late night show host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday. (Snip) This is not the first time that Michelle Obama has targeted Trump, writing in her 2022 memoir, "The Light We Carry," that she felt shaken and hurt by his victory in the 2016 election. "It shook me profoundly to hear

Charges against Alec Baldwin have been dropped in the fatal on-set "Rust" shooting, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Baldwin, 65, had been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the New Mexico set of the Western in October 2021. The actor was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired, striking the cinematographer and director Joel Souza, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury. "We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro,

New York City’s vegan mayor Eric Adams wants to limit the amount of meat people can eat in an effort to combat climate change.
Adams wants to reduce food-based gas emissions by 33% in the next 7 years.
“Food is the third-biggest source of cities’ emissions right after buildings and transportation. But all food is not created equal. The vast majority of food that is contributing to our emission crises lies in meat and dairy products,” Adams said.“According to new data released by the city, 20% of the Big Apple’s greenhouse gas emissions come from food production and consumption.

Dr Phil on Tuesday warned an economics professor's plan for $350,000 in reparations to 40 million descendants of slaves would be 'an absolute disaster', arguing that giving a lump sum was not the best way to help anyone.
The television host on Tuesday invited on his show Duke University's William Darity, who co-authored the book 'From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century'.
Darity suggested the US government issue the funds in much the same way it sent out checks to millions of Americans during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, at a cost of $14 trillion.

An unknown number of American citizens remain trapped in Sudan, and it may already be too late to get them out. The civil war in Sudan between two wanna-be warlords reached the capital of Khartoum almost a week ago, and yet no one apparently had thought to extract US diplomatic personnel and private citizens from the country.
The embassy sent out an alert that it’s already too late for any normal exit:
The airport, located in central Khartoum, is closed but would be inoperable even if it reopened due to damage from bombardment and fighting. The roughly 70 U.S. staff at the embassy have no options to leave Sudan on their own

Gov. Gavin Newsom promised two years ago to appoint a Black woman to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein if she resigned. If he merely appointed a temporary “caretaker” would that honor his pledge? I wouldn’t think so. It wouldn’t be in keeping with the spirit of his promise. The governor seemed to be swearing that if given the opportunity, he would fill a glaring Senate void and make sure there was at least one Black woman member of America’s most prestigious and powerful legislative body. She’d be a full-fledged senator, not a temp. She would follow in the footsteps of California’s

The U.N.’s flagship Green Climate Fund (GCF) will be $1 billion richer from Thursday after President Joe Biden gifts it a cash donation courtesy of U.S. taxpayers.
Biden will announce the billion dollar largesse, effectively doubling the overall U.S. contribution, to the organization which finances “low-carbon and climate-resilient projects in developing countries” while leading a push away from fossil fuels. The announcement will be made during a virtual meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF). The president will also request $500 million over five years to support anti-deforestation efforts in Brazil

A non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama and backed by a litany of multinational corporations is teaming up with American Express to fly migrants into the United States.
The NGO, called Welcome.US, was initially launched to work with President Joe Biden’s administration in resettling some 85,000 Afghans across the U.S. in 2021 and 2022, as Breitbart News reported extensively at the time.
For its Afghan operation, the NGO helped fly close to 20,000 Afghans to American communities funded by millions raised from donations and supported by corporate backers like Walmart, Airbnb, the New York Times, the Business Roundtable,

Though it is finally cooling, lingering effects are still seen with the cultural furor surrounding the beer brand Bud Light. (snip) Joining these dispatched designs was the classic breakfast staple brand Aunt Jemima. When it was announced that the company was deciding to do away with the logo and mascot, some in the activist community declared it to be racist, it was huge news. (snip) even applying the rosiest measurement, by only counting a ten percent decline in each of those six quarters, the former Aunt Jemima brand declined by at least -50% since the name change. It is very likely much worse.

Plans are in motion for President Joe Biden to formally announce his bid for a second term as soon as next week, with a campaign-style video set to be released to definitively answer the question of whether he will run again and igniting an aggressive fundraising effort to help Democrats hold the White House.
Biden’s small circle of close-knit advisers and allies are preparing for a video announcement Tuesday that would coincide with the anniversary of Biden’s 2019 campaign announcement, according to four sources familiar with the matter.
Advisers inside and outside the White House caution that timing could still change, pending unforeseen events

The House of Representatives passed legislation on Thursday to protect women’s sports leagues by banning male athletes who identify as females from competing.
The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 would amend Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 such that recipients of federal financial assistance which operate sports leagues cannot “permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.” The legislation passed with 219 affirmative votes, all of which came from Republicans, and 203 negative votes, all of which came from Democrats.
