WASHINGTON—House Speaker Kevin McCarthy worked furiously Tuesday to build support for a Republican plan that would demand strict limits to federal spending in return for agreeing to raise the nation’s debt limit and stave off an unprecedented U.S. default.
But President Joe Biden swiftly swatted down the plan, which would cap much federal spending at increases of 1% a year, as requiring “huge cuts” to programs helping millions of Americans.
It was just the latest in what is expected to be a protracted debate over how, when and even whether to raise the nation’s debt limit, now at $31 trillion, with default and a potentially devastating blow to the economy

We are being set up to take blame when the market crashes. I think the republicans should steal their thunder and talk nonstop about how democrat policies are destroying our economy.

Big cuts. Isn't that the idea. Come up with a budget that the country can fund and afford.

We are spending $1.27 for every $ of income. It does not take a genius to see where this leads. It takes an addled brain to argue that programs will be cut if spending is cut…what happens to our programming when we go bust?

When and where does it end? When bread is $20 a loaf and milk goes for $25 a gallon? Seriously, we can't cut 1%? FJB and the dems want an open checkbook with no constraints. Time for FJB to have a fireside chat and for once tell the truth (but I do not believe that is possible). Because of his irresponsibility America is floating in the toilet and we need to suck it up, bite the bullet and get things back on the right track. Dump the stupid climate nonsense first thing. Open up our own resources and then go from there. No more money going to Kuwait (sorry about the kickback checks). Lots of unnecessary crap being funded. American families have had to make more than a 1% adjustment in their
household spending. If we can do it as individuals we can do it as a country. FJB has destroyed the America I know and love. I am hoping she is still out there waiting to be saved. And this idiot thinks all is good and he intends to run on his winning record. Bad things are on the horizon and this box of rocks is worried about gas stoves. FJB and when I type that I mean it with all my heart.

Huge cuts to government spending will stabilize consumer prices, and preserve the purchasing power of citizens, all a net gain.

Firstly the republicans need to crucify Schumer, Biden and democrats publicly on what a 'bad idea' actually is- runaway debt and spending versus reducing spending. Secondly, I want to know who the " five families" referenced in the article are.

Brandon has been instructed to drive the US into the ground. Financially, morally, and any other way they can come up with. Pray!

Blame the Republicans for being Scrooge. Typical commie playbook.
Stay tuned for the videos of Republicans pushing Grandma in a wheelchair over the cliff.
Even though it was Dem governors that actually killed the elderly in nursing homes during COVID.

Take the cuts, Biden. We don’t want your useless/worthless spending. We want our children and grandchildren to have a future.

OK Kevin. It is crunch time.
Stay the course. You will get blamed either way, so blame is not relevant.

McCarthy want to take Biden's check book away. Biden has given away trillions of out hard earned dollars to unbudgeted causes. Biden needs to be heeled in.

For once, the Republicans need to grow cajónes and spines of brass, and just let the government shut down until Senile Joe bidet and the Demon-Rats are forced to fold!!!!!!
Even with all the blame that the Demon-Rats and their minions in the MSM will aim at the Republicans, it is all the Demon-Rat welfare plantation base voters that will be hit the hardest and who will be screaming the loudest!!!!!
