Intel co-founder Gordon Moore, a legendary technologist who foresaw the transformative possibilities of semiconductor technology and helped chart the industry’s revolutionary path, died Friday at age 94. Intel said Moore died at his home in Hawaii. Before helping launch Intel with colleague Robert Noyce in 1968, Moore had prophesized exponential growth in semiconductor technology. In a seminal 1965 paper, Moore predicted that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit would double annually as technology advanced – a maxim that became Moore’s Law, one of the computer chip industry’s guidance principles.

Republican lawmakers on Friday lambasted President Biden for his response to the death of an American in Syria, arguing that he's showing weakness and failing to deter America's adversaries. The criticism came one day after Biden ordered the U.S. military to carry out retaliatory airstrikes in Syria, where Iranian forces had killed a U.S. contractor and wounded six other Americans in a drone strike. The U.S. launches reportedly killed eight Iranians. Iranian-backed proxy forces then proceeded to carry out their own retaliatory strikes on Friday, launching rockets that targeted a U.S. base in northeast Syria. There are no U.S. casualties and no damage to the base, according to first assessments.

Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. (Snip) Another day, another public school making the case for why the Department of Education should be abolished. It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the direction public education in America has taken since the late 1960s. Heck, I wrote a book about it. That direction has gotten worse in the last year or so. At least it seems that way. I’m certainly relieved that my daughter is out of school now. Kevin wrote something yesterday that featured some more infuriating news from those we entrust our children to for a huge portion of their young lives: A Boston public school is the latest

The legal challenge to censorship by proxy highlights covert government manipulation of online speech. Last month, I noted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had repeatedly exaggerated the scientific evidence supporting face mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Facebook attached a warning to that column, which it said was "missing context" and "could mislead people." (Snip) I had committed the offense of "malinformation." Unlike "disinformation," which is intentionally misleading, or "misinformation," which is erroneous, "malinformation" is true but inconvenient.

"The U.S. banking system is sound and resilient,” Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell said on Wednesday in an effort to calm depositors worried about more bank failures. That was the same day the Fed raised interest rates another quarter point to deal with inflation that has been running at four-decade highs for nearly two years. The two problems, along with so many others that families are confronting right now, have a common cause: President Joe Biden’s disastrous economic policies. While another banking crisis might have been contained – a reassurance we take with a grain of salt – the Biden crisis will continue to metastasize

The White House is claiming President Joe Biden has built a “strong economy” just one week after the failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. On Wednesday, Caitlin Huey-Burns, CBC’s White House correspondent, asked Biden’s press secretary Katrine Jean-Pierre about the president’s consistent support of Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve.“We understand what the American people are feeling, that is why we have made it a priority

Recruitment in our newly woke military is down across every division and the leaders of our armed forces don’t know why or are pretending not to know why. The reasons are obvious to millions of average of Americans, some who served and even those who did not. The people who would normally enlist have been demonized by the woke left which the military now celebrates. The COVID vaccine mandates are also playing a role.

During an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday, John Kirby argued that Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin is “a manifestation of how much China and Russia know that American leadership on the world stage is back” and that there is “a marriage of convenience, certainly not one of affection” between the two. Kirby said, “I think, first of all, calling this an alliance is a bit of a stretch. I refer to it as a marriage of convenience, certainly not one of affection. President Xi sees in President Putin a useful foil and a counterweight to American influence, particularly in Europe.

The northern lights may be traveling south and could be seen across the mainland US from the West to East Coasts Thursday and Friday. Not only that, but this is one of the most ideal times to gander at the powerful color spectrum due to the change of seasons, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “The best seasons for aurora watching are around the spring and fall equinoxes,” according to the agency. “Due to subtleties in the way the solar wind interacts with Earth’s magnetosphere, there is a tendency toward larger geomagnetic storms, and thus better auroras, to occur near the equinoxes.”

Oil companies have come under increasing legal scrutiny and face allegations of defrauding investors, racketeering, and a wave of other lawsuits. But a new paper argues there’s another way to hold big oil accountable for climate damage: trying companies for homicide. The striking and seemingly radical legal theory is laid out in a paper accepted for publication in the Harvard Environmental Law Review. In it, the authors argue fossil fuel companies “have not simply been lying to the public, they have been killing members of the public at an accelerating rate, and prosecutors should bring that crime to the public’s attention”.

A US contractor was killed on Thursday in Syria after a suspected Iranian-affiliated drone struck a facility housing US personnel in northeast Syria, the Pentagon said in a statement Thursday. Five US service members and an additional US contractor were wounded in the strike. “The intelligence community assess the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) to be of Iranian origin,” according to the statement. In response, President Joe Biden authorized a precision airstrike “in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC),” Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in the statement. Joe and Jill Biden kickstarted their Canada trip with a round of hugs and a few kisses as they joined Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau for dessert and private time at the prime minister's residence on Thursday evening. The president kissed Gregoire Trudeau on the cheek while the prime minister did the same for the first lady - a public display of warmth and affection ahead of the two leaders' bilateral meeting on Friday, where they will deal with a few thorny issues, such as defense spending and migration at the northern border.
