California’s fiscal wildfire is here. The flames are licking the highest levels of the state capitol in Sacramento. The flames surround the Democrat super majority-run legislature.
Democrats’ profligate spending, greed, and lack of imagination on how to run America’s most populous state have been disastrous. An investment research group says California’s “tax policy is killing the Golden Goose in the Golden State.” And that’s not the only problem.
Governor Gavin Newsom sent billions of Joe Biden’s specially printed, inflation-causing Covid money to voters for “inflation relief” before his latest election. He teed up “free” kindergarten for four-year-olds, and gave out “free” healthcare to illegal aliens. His reckless spending was the fiscal

David Bowies' song 'Putting Out The Fire With Gasoline' comes to mind. Actually that could be our new national anthem, since we're now open to alternatives.

So what's the problem here? Clearly, Cali's tax structure needs to be addressed.
Isn't the solution an obvious no-brainer, Cali-style. Simple basic economics. Increase taxes, of course. Higher taxes = more tax revenue.
Duh!

They don't care, because they all know that NO ONE working in a government job will lose even 1 dime, just like during the pandemic.
Also, the folks who've retired, and receiving their pension won't either, since that is funding priority #1. Even if the pension funds don't have enough money, the general fund is required to ensure the pension obligations are paid first, then they sort out what's left for all the other programs.
Every one of them votes to maintain this system, and then they have all of those who are receiving other benefits which they've been told will be taken away if you vote for Republicans.
This is what they want to do in other states - grow the size and scope of government so it impacts so much of the rest of the state it's nearly impossible to remove or reduce, just grows.

The D'Rats sold out the people of Commiefornia to the public service unions, they retire with pensions that far outweigh their worth, they pound the OT their last couple of years and then retire with pensions in the hundreds of thousand dollars. How do you pay thousands of people 100,000+ for 30+ years??? But with the voting fraud they D'Rats will never lose power in the People Republic of Commiefornia.

Well, this would have happened a few years ago, first the Trump economy helped the CA budget, then the mass infusion of federal waste (aka Covid relief). But the looney Dems spent it all, so eventually the bill comes due. Hopefully the GOP House will not fund any federal bailouts. But McCarthy is from CA. Despite my screen name here, I’m a former Californian, now a political refugee living in Idaho, thankfully!

Hey northern California, how's that secession effort going? Going to be able to get away from this insanity? Good luck.

I'll bet the people leaving pay more taxes than the ones coming in.

What's the big deal? The US taxpayers will just step up (per dictatorial decree from Senile Joe bidet) and give Cuba-fornia $1,000,000,000,000.00 or so of our tax dollars to "rescue" them.
Can't let that socialist "utopia" falter now, can we?!?!?!?

This reminds me of Oregon's PERS program: Public Employees Retirement System. Via that program, a three friends of mine retired as high school teachers, each with $800,000+ in their PERS accounts. It wasn't long before Oregon's legislators saw the light and cut themselves in on PERS themselves. All three of my friends moved to sunnier states and swankier digs, and never looked back.

They know that slow D'oh Biden will open the federal government's till and bail them out at expense of the rest of the country. Re-election is critical.

I recall British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's words, something to the effect of:
"Socialism works great until you run out of other people's money to spend."

Blue state spends money it do not have.
Borrows money until a Dem is President.
Requests and receives massive bailout from the other 49 states.
Repeat as needed.
