Under political pressure from Democrats as well as Republicans, President Joe Biden is considering giving a speech in the coming days to address the Chinese spy balloon and the three other shot-down objects, two senior administration officials confirmed ABC News on Wednesday.
The White House is eying the days before Biden departs for his trip to Poland for the potential balloon remarks. He is scheduled to depart for that trip, during which he'll mark the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, on Monday, Feb. 20. The deliberations over the speech were first reported by Reuters.

The winner of the largest ever lottery jackpot described himself as “shocked and ecstatic” as officials revealed his identity, satisfying a law in his state, California.
Edwin Castro bought the ticket that won the record-breaking $2.04bn Powerball jackpot on 8 November. Instead of choosing to collect the full prize through an annuity over 29 years, he opted for an immediate lump sum of more than $997.6m – the more common path for people in his position.
Castro declined an invitation to appear at a news conference held on Tuesday by lottery officials in California. But the names of California lottery winners must become public by law, so officials published his name

The audio is garbled at times, but the emotions are unmistakable.
“I am being taken to be shot. I lost a lot of people there. Remember this: do not send more people here. It’s enough, they want to kill us all.”
It is the last message Viktor Sevalnev would send. A convict, who had been in jail for armed robbery and assault, he was sent from prison to fight for Russia in Ukraine. After most of his colleagues died in an assault on a factory outside Soledar, it was the act of survival that proved fatal to Sevalnev.

The FBI has conducted two searches at the University of Delaware in connection with the investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents, a source familiar with the investigation told CNN.
The previously undisclosed searches were conducted in recent weeks, with the consent and cooperation of the president's legal team, the source said.
The library at the University of Delaware, Biden's alma mater, is home to an extensive collection of papers from the president's time in the Senate, according to its website. Investigators retrieved materials from two university locations on two different days. The material did not appear to have classified markings, according to the source,

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, called for a new generation of leadership during her 2024 presidential campaign kickoff speech on Wednesday, taking shots at the older generation of politicians in the White House and in Congress.
“We’re ready to move past the stale ideas and faded names of the past and we are more than ready for a new generation to lead us into the future,” said Haley, who at 51 would offer a change in pace from 80-year-old President Joe Biden and 76-year-old former president Donald Trump. Trump is the only other candidate who has formally announced a 2024 bid.

Washington — The Justice Department has formally decided not to charge Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida in relation to a sex trafficking investigation, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News, with career federal prosecutors informing witnesses of the decision on Wednesday.
The four-term congressman has been under investigation for several years to determine if he violated sex trafficking laws and obstructed justice in that probe. Gaetz has previously denied all wrongdoing, and said he has never paid for sex nor had sex with an underage girl. CNN first reported that the department had decided against charging Gaetz.

U.S. military and intelligence agencies tracked the Chinese spy balloon for nearly a week before it violated American airspace last month, according to a new report.
As the U.S. monitored the balloon, it appeared headed for the U.S. territory of Guam. But the balloon was seemingly blown off course and instead ended up over Alaska’s Aleutian Islands before ultimately floating over the continental United States, the Washington Post reported.
U.S. officials are considering the possibility that China did not intend to send the spy balloon over the continental United States, but instead took advantage of the balloon being blown off course to surveil sensitive locations in Montana.

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, announced her resignation on Wednesday, saying that she had become too polarizing a figure — an acknowledgment that comes amid a tense fight over gender law in the country.
“My judgment now is that a new leader will be better able to do this,” Sturgeon said in a surprise announcement after more than eight years in office. “Someone about whom the mind about almost everyone in the country is not already made up, for better or worse. Someone who is not subject to quite the same polarized opinions, fair or unfair, as I now am.”
She said was was worn down by the “brutality” of political life.

Senators were given a closed-door briefing on Tuesday on the three “objects” that were shot down over the U.S. and Canada over the weekend.
While many of the Senators were limited in what they could say because the meeting was classified, senators on both sides of the aisle said that the Biden team should make the information known to the American people. Both sides called for more transparency from the Biden team.
“There is a lot of information presented to us this morning that could be told to the American people without any harm to sources or methods or national security,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine took to the podium on Tuesday to update reporters and citizens about the devastating train derailment in E. Palestine, Ohio, on February 3. The small town has been reeling in the wake of the derailment and subsequent controlled burn of dangerous chemicals days after the wreck. One of the most astounding revelations from the press conference (watch below) was that the train was not classified as carrying hazardous chemicals.
“I learned today from the PUCO [Public Utilities Council of Ohio] that this train was not considered a high hazardous material train,” DeWine said. As a result, the railroad was not required to notify anyone in Ohio

U.S. intelligence officials were tracking the spy balloon that was shot down earlier this month since it lifted off from the south coast of China, U.S. officials said Tuesday.
According to U.S. officials, after takeoff, the spy balloon drifted east in the direction of Guam and Hawaii and then went north to Alaska and entered U.S. airspace on Jan. 28. Given the path, it's possible that the balloon was blown off course by weather, but U.S. officials said that once it came south over the continental United States, it was being controlled by China.
The tracking of the balloon was first reported by The Washington Post. China has insisted

A hazardous chemical leak from a rollover crash involving a commercial tanker truck closed Interstate 10 in both directions in Tucson.
The crash happened at around 2:43 p.m. on I-10 near Kolb and Rita Roads on Tuesday. The freeway was closed as crews worked to mitigate the situation, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. University of Arizona police later tweeted that anyone within a one mile of the crash should shelter in place and turn off any air-conditioning units that bring in outside air.
UA police later said the Pima County Sheriff's Department instructed all personnel at the university's Tech Park to evacuate. The Tucson Fire Department
