It's been days since President Joe Biden directed the Pentagon to shootdown a number of "objects" he claims were a threat to U.S. airspace and commercial aircraft. There are no photos of the "objects," which White House officials say cannot be classified as balloons, and still no recovered debris after they were reportedly taken out by F-16 pilots using $400,000 missiles.
As officials drag their feet on providing details about what exactly the objects were, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre won't say whether Biden scrambled fighter jets to shoot down

Bankrupting America for a showy display.
Trollers at Channel 4 are bragging about who has spent the least, like $300, to get the $400,000 missile against their creation.
joe's peeps needs the distraction, so they're going for it even tho they must know.

What difference would it make!! There’s plenty more where that came from! It’s an unending cornucopia of taxpayer dollars!!
Their only regret is that they have to be bothered to pretend to tell the taxpayers what they are doing.

It was reported that Sidewinder missiles were used to shoot the balloons down. A Sidewinder is a heat seeking air to air missile. It locks on to the heat of the enemy’s jet engine. Sadly balloons have no heat source for a Sidewinder to lock on to. So this is a big lie.

The question is, how many balloon enthusiasts died and nobody is talking about it?

Given the serious nature of this Chinese balloon, $400K is a cheap price to pay given the alternative. That might not be a popular opinion to hold, but there it is.

Sidewinders here, sidewinders there, sidewinders everywhere, it's a sidewinders afternoon delight. The DOD is evidently trying to shoot through our missile inventory as fast as they can. It's F-22 target practice time in American airspace. Someone is trying to be Maverick.

Actually, the sources I found online indicated $600K cost per missile.

Anything to distract from the classified scandal. A couple of sidewinder missiles should to the trick.

Re #3, that information was accurate for early Sidewinders but since the 1980s they are dramatically more capable and can see extremely small temperature differences. The sun on a balloon would make it stand out as an excellent target.

And, Yes, 20 mm cannon or 30mm on the F35s would punch holes in any balloon that tge aircraft could climb up to. The Sidewinders can engage a taget higher than the aircraft can go. They claimed that the ChiCom balloon was at 65,000 ft at one point, which may be above the max altitude of some of these aircraft, I'm not sure. Absolute ceiling on an aircraft is classified.
I tend to think that they could have gotten to 65k but not certain. The others seem to have been lower.

I read the National Weather Service launches around 60,000 weather balloons each year. The Biden administration is going to be very busy.

The one over Lake Huron missed on his first shot and dropped the missile in the water. It will be a nice find for a scuba diver one day. Yes, guns would make more sense against a target that isn't moving any faster than a butterfly.

Given that the defense industry has probably given his campaign millions, I wouldn't be surprised.

These balloons are much cheaper than missiles:
