California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein announced Tuesday that she will retire at the end of her term.
“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024, but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein said in her announcement.
At 89, Feinstein is the oldest senator who has held a seat representing California since 1992. She said she plans to spend the remainder of her tenure working on a few legislative priority projects for her state.
“I campaigned in 2018 on several priorities for California and the nation: preventing and combating wildfires, mitigating

If you are a Republican in California, the good news is we get rid of DiFi. The bad news is we almost assuredly get Adam Schiff.

I bet, she leaves early, Gov. Newsom appoints who they want in that seat next. New person runs as an incumbent.

Yeah. We're looking at Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee. Makes Ro Khanna, who is also thinking of running almost a pro-Trump MAGA conservative.

That will leave both "Power women" seats for Calif open in '24...Pelosi's and DiFi's...the battles will be vicious. I don't think Schiff is "Man enough", or rather...perhaps TOO much of a "Man" to prevail, both seats are the Dem Party Equivalent to RBG's SC seat. The Party will demand "Only Women can fill them" because...."Tradition". That they are both historically NorCal seats, makes SoCal players disadvantaged. I wouldn't be surprised though if she leaves sooner and Newsome appoints....Newsome. Making the Battle Royale over Pelosi's seat and the Governors mansion. For Dems having two statewide seats in play at the same time, with the Heirs apparent fighting each other is a risky proposition.
Keep in mind Tulsi Gabbard is now out of Hawaii office/residency and part of the Calif. National Guard.

First, I doubt she actually knows she is retiring, and likely could not make a public statement.
Second, I'm hard pressed to recall anything she's done FOR the state in the past 20-25 years.
Can't make abortion more accessible, since CA now has some of the most extreme policies in the world. No restrictions and no one complaining about it either.
The GOP in CA will not be able to nominate a candidate who has even a prayer of gaining more than token vote count. He/She will be far too conservative for a state run by Progressive Democrats who have large dependent class needing the benefits that are doled out, and a massive number of government employees who vote for whoever is giving them the salaries, benefits and pension.
Remember, DiFi was agreeing with President Trump on his proposals for immigration reform when he hosted that televised "board" meeting. Then, changed her mind the next day. She was more of a moderate than a Progressive, that's for sure, but was still a Democrat voting with her party most of the time.

Good riddance of a nasty, ultra-anti-gun leftist. I have despised her for her entire career.
Unfortunately, the replacement will be another California Crazy leftist loon, for certain.

Big news. Even surprised Senator DiFi! (She later was quoted as saying that she had not decided on her plans for 2024.) Looks like Schiffy and the rest of the Cali Dems are pushing Granny DiFi over the cliff in her wheelchair.

I had just started voting Republican (I was never a Democrat) with the election of GHWB. I was also there in stationed at a CA Bay Area Naval Base in 1992 when Frankenfeinstein became a Senator along with Babs Boxer and Mad Maxine became a Congresswoman. The praise from the CA media and democrat state officials was nauseating. Especially from then Oakland mayor Elihu Harris and newly minted Alameda County (the country I was stationed in) Deputy DA Kamala Harris. It looks like the powers that be told DiFi (who like Biden looks like her brain WiFi isn't getting good signals any longer) that she should hang it up. Seeing how it reportedly was news to her that she was retiring. Either way she should've been gone way before she hit 90. They make the average worker retire in their 60s and the political class can hang on until they're octogenarians and beyond. It's just plain ridiculous.
