The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday charged Sam Bankman-Fried, the embattled former CEO of cryptocurrency giant FTX and trading firm Alameda Research, with defrauding investors.
"FTX’s collapse highlights the very real risks that unregistered crypto asset trading platforms can pose for investors and customers alike," said Gurbir S. Grewal, director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, in a statement.
Bankman-Fried had been arrested Monday in the Bahamas after federal prosecutors in New York filed criminal charges contained in a sealed indictment, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said on Monday that specific charges were expected to be unsealed Tuesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new rules on Friday that would restrict the use of refrigerators, air conditioning equipment and heat pumps that utilize hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
The EPA’s proposed rule would crack down on the manufacturing and importing of goods containing HFCs, which would restrict the use of HFCs in refrigeration units, air conditioning systems and heat pump equipment starting in 2025, according to an agency press release. In accordance with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, a global climate treaty that the Senate ratified in September, the agency intends to reduce the production and consumption of HFCs by 85% by 2036. “With this latest proposal

Amsterdam is launching an offensive to attract tourists interested first and foremost in its architecture and museums, and to bar those who are primarily attracted by its Red Light District and drug dens. These so-called “coffee shops” will soon be closed to foreigners anyway, if the city can get around the legal obstacles to enforce such a controversial measure.
In a policy document published last week, the city also declares war on stag and hen parties in the infamous district, as well as on on pub crawls, smoking pot in public, loud party boats, the prostitution industry, and home owners renting their apartments for short stays. Hotels and B&B’s

Before the Elon Musk buyout, Twitter looks like the worst-run tech company ever with new revelations about lax security, no oversight, and a corporate culture geared towards hiding the ugly truth from the company’s own board of directors and the FTC.
Former CEOs Jack Dorsey and Parag Agrawal have some ‘splainin to do.
Almost unnoticed among the more salacious #TwitterFiles reveals from Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, and Michael Shellenberger, “the stuff uncovered in the Twitter whistleblower report is much crazier,” according to Twitter user Avid Halaby. Halaby did a deep dive into the newly released insider materials, and his Twitter thread shows a company that was a Rube Goldberg device

An apparent threat by Michigan's Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel to arrest and prosecute local activists promoting election integrity and anti-voter fraud efforts caused many of them to steer clear of a contentious monitoring effort out of fear of being targeted by the government, according to a Michigan attorney deeply involved in the situation.
Across Michigan on Wednesday, dozens of counties and hundreds of precincts began a recount for two controversial ballot proposals that were approved by voters on Nov. 8.
The first measure in question is Proposal 2, which establishes early voting, expands access to absentee voting and preempts Republican efforts to enact more stringent voter ID rules.

Viktor Bout — “The Merchant of Death” or “The Lord of War” — is not a very nice man. He sells arms to groups that kill innocent people. And according to all accounts, he particularly loves killing Americans.
Just before he was arrested in a brilliant sting operation by the DEA in 2008, Bout told the informants who were just about to rat him out “that he had been fighting the U.S. for about 15 years and that the U.S. is an enemy,” and that “He was very eager and anxious to carry out this arms deal to kill Americans.”
Way to go, Joe.

What happened to you, lefties? You used to be cool and cutting-edge. Now, you’re just boring. You’re yesterday’s news. No matter what you cut off, what you sew on, no matter if you identify as a man, woman, or gender-fluid blowfish, you just aren’t “it” anymore. You’re passé. As they said in the original televised version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, you’re so unhip it’s a wonder your bums don’t fall off.
Stop gluing yourselves to things. It’s almost 2023. Gluing yourself to various objects, furnishings, buildings, paintings, and objets d’art is so last year. I can practically hear them in the Hamptons and the Vineyard now:

And, here we go again. A felony arrest warrant for grand larceny has been issued for Department of Energy official Sam Brinton. Brinton is the deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition. The reason for the warrant? Stealing luggage. Again. 8 News Now said that the latest theft occurred at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Brinton was placed on leave for stealing luggage at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this past September. He originally claimed the first incident was a mistake, but video footage emerged of him removing the tag from the luggage, according to the Washington Examiner. He was

Bowe Bergdahl walked away from his base on June 29, 2009, and was captured the next day. Bergdahl deserted. In the ensuing search, six soldiers died trying to get him back. On May 31, 2014, the twice-promoted Bergdahl was exchanged for five terrorists and returned to the United States. President Obama in announcing the prisoner exchange with terrorists said, in part:
Today the American people are pleased that we will be able to welcome home Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, held captive for nearly five years. On behalf of the American people, I was honored to call his parents to express our joy that they can expect his safe return,

President Joe Biden on Thursday celebrated the news that his administration had successfully secured the release of WNBA basketball player Brittney Griner, who was detained in Russia.
“Brittney is an incomparable athlete,” Biden said, noting she was a two-time Olympic Gold medalist for the United States.
Griner was arrested in February at a Moscow airport by Russian officials for possession of cannabis vape cartridges.
“She represents the best about America — just across the board, everything about her,” Biden said. The White House had to have known the kind of response the Brittney Griner prisoner swap with Viktor Bout, a.k.a. the Merchant of Death would bring. That is likely why reports say

Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is facing the possibility of at least two congressional subpoenas as U.S. lawmakers gear up for the latest round of hearings on the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange he founded.
First up is a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee, planned for Dec. 13, at which Bankman-Fried has been requested to testify. Late Wednesday, the panel’s chairwoman, Rep. Maxine Waters of California, said “a subpoena is definitely on the table” if he doesn’t speak with the committee. “Stay tuned,” she tweeted. Liberal and tolerant Public Health™ experts seem to have finally sussed out, based on hard clinical research, the true sources of LGBTQ+++™ youth suicidality. (Snip) What on Earth could drive 60% of non-binary children to want to kill themselves?
Probably bigotry!
Forbes continues:
Researchers said the resulting data shines a light on the mental health disparities, discrimination, housing instability, barriers to accessing mental health care, conversion therapy, and suicide plaguing LGBTQ youth.
It’s obviously just a major coincidence that suicidality increases when pop culture floods children’s corporate media programming to celebrate “Transgender Day of Visibility” and libbed-out parents encourage their four-year-old children to “explore their genders.” This is clearly not disorienting

These leftist glue aficionados need corporal punishment. Give them a hiding (in the old Southern meaning) to remember. Pain gets straight to the point.
