Some years ago, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman said “if we could just be China for a day” we would be able to “authorize the right solutions … on everything from the economy to environment.” It’s a fantasy often dreamed of, usually in secret, by Western elites. For the rest of us, it’s a nightmare.
While our country, and much of the world, has finally walked away from most of the liberty-robbing and soul-crushing pandemic restrictions, China is convulsing over the government’s zero-tolerance rules. Protests – mostly peaceful, or course – have spread across major cities. The oppressed citizens are revolting,

The only country that should be like China is - China. China for day is the socialist wet dream of Left Wing elites ( such as populating the NYT, Harvard, Davos etc.) They don’t mean for a day. They mean forever with themselves in charge.

Its easy to see why some believe that way. The ruling elites and academics in both societies are identical. They arent held responsible for their actions, the laws never seem to apply to them in any meaningful way. Their every want or need is catered to and hidden, including children for sex and enemies killed, Their families are likewise protected. They have no fear of elections or anything else. Life is a jackpot for them.
Its us regular schmos that care what laws are passed because we are the ones who suffer under them.

With FREEDOM breaking out all across China, maybe we do need to be a little more like them seeing as how our FREEDOMS are on the wane. But then, our current mess is what America voted for.

What less than half of America voted for. And the Chinese people are revolting; yeah, they stink on ice. H/T Mel Brooks, History Of The World, Pt. 1

If America was more like China in preventing crime and punishing strictly for it, and in educating their population, maybe they’d be onto something. We can use a LOT more crime prevention here in America. A little deterrent would go a long way. We can also use REAL educating, not the woke drag queenery America’s got. Other than that, no thanks.

FTA - "China’s government is a model for no other nation. It’s abusive, oppressive, duplicitous, tribal, disposed to censorship, and runs counter to the American experiment in freedom and individualism. No wonder the grandees and mandarins of the left are in awe of it."

Should we round up Muslims and put them in concentration camps and forcibly sterilize them?

Sure! Roll those tanks!
Make sure to station all your soldiers in regions that are not local. Never know when they will be required to fire on your own people, and soldiers don't like gunning down their own family members.
100% gun control! Only the military will have guns.
No rights.
No freedoms.
No wealth.
No safety.
No life,
It's utopia! Paradise!
What could be better?

Our restaurants could be more like China and serve more stir-fry and hot & sour soup. Other than that, they have nothing of interest. They had a better government and society 4,000 years ago.

Trouble is, no. 5, that the only crime in China is opposing or embarrassing the communist government. If it makes international news, you're dead!!

China is what China has always been, a nation ruled by force by an emperor, This time it's Xi and the Communists. What's the difference? This has been the way since the Shang dynasty nearly four thousand years ago. These riots are just more in a long line of occasional unrest, but the idea that "freedom" and "democracy" are somehow involved ignores culture and history.
Americans have this wrongheaded notion that people everywhere yearn to be free in the same sense Americans suppose themselves to be. It's not true, with many cultures based on collectivism and group loyalty (such as families, tribes or other such). Many cultures, for example, have no concept of "private property".
The Chinese will emerge from this like they did the Tienanmen demonstrations, with a Communist Party that will take measures to prevent similar in the future. The general public will support the "emperor" cracking down on the revolutionaries. Life will return to their normal.
That's China. That will be China. The US is becoming China.

Friedman yet again displays what he thinks of the USA with this ungrateful comment about wanting to live in China! The freedom loving Chinese people are currently in revolt against the Chinese dictator! Friedman is still just plain loony after all these years. Pathetic.
