Minnesotans celebrated Native American culture at Midtown Global Market on Sunday afternoon to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
It was first formally recognized last year when President Biden declared it a national holiday.
With every beat of the drum, Native American traditions were front and center celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day. (snip) Indigenous Food Lab members gave step by step instructions on how to make sunflower cookies

There is no such thing as indigenous people. Every area of Earth was settled by a series of migrations. Unless of course you claim that certain people just originated spontaneously in a given place, or always existed there.

Meanwhile we'll be celebrating the brave and adventurous Chrstopher Columbus, and marveling at the opening up of the lands westward across a wild ocean and multifarious discoveries, dangers and wonders.
And I'll ponder the nature of humankind, the good, the bad and the beautiful... the traits we find to be universal. And so I'll continue to reject the Noble Savage schtick.

Don't let it skip your notice that for the great numbers of all indigenous cultures who together helped build this country merit ONE DAY in recognition. Certain others require an entire MONTH.

fta... "It was first formally recognized last year when President Biden declared it a national holiday.""
JoeBamaVegetableBiteMe had nothing to do with it being a holiday-- IT ALREADY WAS. Like so many things in woke society, the words got changed from Columbus Day.
The late Great Rush Limbaugh summarized it by saying "Words mean things", but we are told to believe that is no longer the case. and for some insane reason, we go along with it.
Columbus' crew were CONVICTS. As the voyage wore on, the crew was ready to mutiny. The first thing Columbus did was to come ashore and kiss the ground dedicating it to God and King. The crew took advantage of the people and people have personally attacked Columbus by the actions of the criminals who were with him.

TODAY IS COLUMBUS DAY, despite the Left's attempt to steal and re-name it.

I refuse to honor people who cling to a substinence culture and turn their backs on the wonders and opportunities that are available. Yes they were treated badly and I regret that. Life was really really hard in those days and I wish it weren’t so but, come on people. Move with the times or disappear in history. They won’t be the first people who were subsumed and melted away. The choice is theirs. I will not idolize a culture that was making okay pottery when my people were sailing the world in wooden ships with ever developing sail configurations.

The left has sanctified the indians, uh indigenous people . Ennobled them, the keepers of the land. No mention of their constant warfare, torturing their enemies, raping , pillaging and the enslavement of captives. Also , no mention that after centuries they had no written language, never came up with the wheel, no inventions to speak of. Truth be told, once anyone from Europe came upon North America, the indians never stood a chance.Guns being far superior to bows and arrows.

Why so many ugly comments about Native Americans? I cringe whenever I see an article, ostensibly about American Indians, but mostly about a group of leftists exploiting, or seeking to exploit them. In most cases, the negative posts to follow here tend to denigrate them. My Native American family, carrying blood of the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Northern Europeans, celebrates Columbus Day and have been among the first to fight - and die - for our country since the mid-1700s. In fact, it was military service that enabled the more Native side of my family to rise out of poverty, improve educational opportunities, and fully integrate into American society, with nary a "Noble Savage" among us.

I would be willing to put money on the fact that there were countless more people celebrating Columbus Day with BBQ's, parades, drinking in the bars, and just having fun.
And not a single nasty sunflower cookie to be found!!!
