The sound of Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson on Friday's PBS NewsHour underlined how there is no debate and no democracy on PBS. They put on a RINO who says the GOP is simply awful, and the liberal on the panel says "Oh, I agree!" Republicans pay taxes to be painted as awful for opposing the murder of unborn babies.
Gerson was the chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush, a moderate Christian conservative. Bush nominated Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the majority opinion overturning Roe vs. Wade.

I just happened to see that disgusting segment while channel flipping last week. If anything in this country needs defunded, it's PBS/NPR. Truly nauseating people.

I absolutely abhor that my tax dollars support propaganda that smears my point of view as beyond reasonable. In this particular disgusting instance, my stomach turned at their righteous insistence on "bodily autonomy" of the mother. Of course, left unsaid there is no consideration for the bodily autonomy of the baby growing inside her womb. The underlying assumption of the abortion-on-demand argument is that pregnancy is something that "just happens" to a woman that is beyond her control, like developing a cyst. Therefore any argument that places moral responsibility upon the woman is beyond the pale. The Democrats have so weaponized the canard "separation of church and state" that any mention of basic human morality is immediately met with accusations of a state imposed religion. Turncoat RINOs tremble at the thought of being caught in these cross hairs, so never mention the behavior of women that make abortions necessary. That's how good Republicans get invited to all the nice cocktail parties.

When the Republicans take back the House, they can defund NPR, but they won't.

PBS was originally funded by taxpayers because politicians didn't think there was enough channels for people to view. That ship sailed years ago and PBS should be immediately defunded.

Perhaps it is just my sphere of acquaintances but I know of no one who actually watches PBS, with the exception of when they had on the Four Tops several years ago as they begged for donations. Ergo, funding PBS is like using the dollars for toilet paper...Stop iT damn it!

I recall public broadcasting actually became somewhat neutral in the 90s when the GOP took the House and Gingrich was threatening to shut it down. But he and the GOPes didn't follow through. I reckon Sesame Street couldn't survive without Congress.
CSPAN (funded by the networks)programming and opinion is leaning more and more left.

Occasionally they have some excellent shows, e.g. Downton Abbey, All Creatures Great and Small, etc., but there are other venues that would happily pick them up if PBS disappeared.

FTA :" PBS can't tolerate a pundit who might calmly state that the Democrat stance on abortion is just as "deeply radical" as the Republican stance,". No! No!! A thousand times No. Opposing the killing of an unborn until the time of birth is not radical. Supporting even acceding to it is monstrous.

On PBS I do watch "All Creatures Great and Small," "Midwives" and "Masterpiece Theatre". Loved the series "Downton Abby."
Of course, all of these could be created for other networks -- but currently only PBS carries them. I don't watch any of their news programming. In my opinion NPR is much worse in their conservative bashing and I can't listen to any of their news programming.
I don't watch a lot of television, but when I do I seem to watch a lot of British programing. Don't like my tax dollars going to pay for PBS. Would rather pay for the programming I want to see. I do pay for a couple of British channels.

They even advertise their garbage with a big lie, "PBS is funded by people like you." They never add, "by government force, via the IRS."

Back in school they used to make us watch PBS sometimes. They would roll that huge TV cart into the classroom with the 25" TV 5 feet off the floor, and we knew two things. 1st, there was going to be no work that day. 2nd, we were going to be hit with insipid propaganda, usually featuring every race but white and every culture but ours. It was a great time to pass notes to the cute girl in the next row or toss paper wads at the class nerd.

Republicans are so stupid. Funding and giving a platform for the left to hammer them over the head. Giving a hangman a fresh, sturdy rope to hang you that's the ticket for dumb republicans.

I'm very selective about what I watch on PBS...it's always tainted by lefties and Cspan is no better...so...off with their funding by taxpayers...who pay the bills for lefties...buy your own news programs with endless commercials...

It's long past time to get rid of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is, as everyone is told on PBS shows, who funds the shows,
"The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private corporation funded by the American People."
A PRIVATE CORPORATION FUNDED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
Leftists would lose their minds if there was a conservative private corporation that was funded with tax dollars.

I miss the McLaughlin Report. It surely was a different day and time.
Not to defend PBS in a broad sense but WTTW Chicago PBS turns out fantastic local flavor and history shows.
I'd be okay if PBS just stuck with puppets and bugs and cooking shows.

NO! He did NOT! Bush nominated political crony hack Harriet Miers. It was only the explosion of outrage by the conservatives - - which forced Georgie to withdraw her name - - and write in Alito. Bush was - - and surely still is - - a 100% RINO - - who deserves nothing but our scorn.

When PBS was started in 1969, it was supposed to be modeled after the BBC and deliver non-biased informative programming. Public funding was supposed to be temporary to help get it going. PBS has never been self supporting in all this time. Unlike many many other stations it has always had the begging bowl out to keep it alive. In that time it has become more biased and propagandaistic.
it is the opposite of what it was supposed to be. For this reason, all government funding should end.

I was a daily listener to NPR every morning. Then in about 1994 they reported on a situation in a small town near where I worked. I had been hearing about it for months since many of the guys I worked with commuted from there. I knew the story in detail. NPR reported it exactly the opposite of what it was. I mean the exact opposite. I have not listened one minute since.
PBS and NPR were created because broadcasting was expensive and thus an educational channel with low viewership could not support itself with commercials. But those days have been gone for 30 years. A channel is so cheap now some are supported only by the money of a single retiree's savings. I listen to one that is. Time to turn PBS and NPR off.

Defund PBS/NPR, CSPAN - which is leaning more & more left daily, AARP (they get apx 8M annually from taxpayers) & DEFINITELY defund public colleges & universities. So we lose sesame street, all it is anymore is indoctrination from cradle to grave.
All Creatures Great and Small, Midwives, Masterpiece Theatre & Downton Abby are all available on BBC or on disc - so you could watch them whenever you want, w/o having to make a donation.

When I was growing up in rural Indiana back in the 1970s, we could only get 2 channels on the television and one of them was PBS. I live in southern Indiana where it's really hilly. The reception on either channel was not very good and the weather had to be perfect. I remember my father fixing the antenna on the roof in hopes of catching a football game or the news. We listened to sports mostly over radio. Believe it or not PBS had the best reception and we did watch a lot of the programming -- mostly the British shows. Still don't see why it needs to be funded with tax dollars.

Comment on #2:
Any discussion of the "'separation of church and state" with a leftist must include the point that any govt law, no matter to which side it leans, reflects a moral position that is rooted in a religion. In the case of abortion, a law favoring the right to life of the baby reflects a Christian moral worldview, while a law favoring the right of the mother to kill her baby reflects a view from secular humanism. Either way, the regulation will necessarily reflect a religious view. Therefore, the argument is not whether or not a govt law is based on a religious foundation, but rather upon which religious view it will be based.
And since America was founded on Judeo-Christian religious views, the leftards are really only trying to replace them with those of a different religion...secular humanism.

Nothing good at PBS.

distribute content funding equally among all house of representative members.
that would open pbs content to competition to a wider range of views.
