Take credit for what worked. Shift the blame for what didn’t. Run to Daddy-in-law whenever the big, bad chief of staff got in his way. That was Jared Kushner’s modus operandi during the long four years I had to serve alongside the man most responsible for the loss of the Trump White House. Kushner came to the D.C. swamp on the coattails of his wife as nothing more than a young and rich, run-of-the-mill liberal New York Democrat with a worldview totally orthogonal to the president he was supposed to serve. Yet, within the West Wing, Kushner considered himself to be the ultimate “Trump whisperer.”

Navarro is forthright. He had an axe to grind with Jared: Jared’s “neuter the boss” role quickly became a source of friction between us. He believed that I, more than anyone inside the West Wing, could “rile up” the president to take actions that were, in fact, totally consistent with Trump’s central campaign promises. But as this particular Wall Street transactionalist liked to say (and it always made me cringe): “That was the campaign. This is reality.”

As an outsider, Trump's vulnerability and ultimate failure, was the people/advisors he surrounded himself with. But as a commenter after the article pointed out: Republicans couldn't wait to refuse to work with or for him. A goodly portion of the knives in Trumps back were put there by our side. Could be why he's out here building his own farm team. Trump will have to demonstrate better back-up next go round.

My opinion. PDJT saw DC for YEARS (by his accounts, he contemplated running for Pres a while ago). I think he saw what needed to be done and wanted to take action. (1) I think he had NO idea how many people he would need to do the job, and how small the pool of trustworthies would be. (2) he had no idea the Republicans (as they used to be called) would refuse to work with him, and even sabotage his personnel and policies. (3) he loves his family and saw “help” and friendly faces in Ivanka and Jared. (4) he was naive in 2015-16. I think he has learned.

In some kind of convoluted way, President Trump has allowed us to understand just how corrupt D.C. really is. Never really understood it before. Guessed that some were corrupt, but figured most of them were there to take care of the country's business, not their own. Now I believe they're all corrupt and the fear that Trump might expose more of it - indirectly - is the true reason they don't want him back in office.

#12, agreed. It's easy for people to sit behind their keyboards and blame Trump for not doing enough, for trusting the wrong people, etc. But there was no way he could have known the full depth of the swamp, or how few who call themselves Republicans or Conservatives, actually are. He's a man of vision and action, but he's not omniscient or omnipotent.

U.S. government officials haven’t presented sufficient evidence to keep a key document related to the search warrant executed at former President Donald Trump’s home shielded from the public, a federal judge ruled on Aug. 22. Officials have claimed that an affidavit that convinced U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart to approve the warrant needs extensive redactions to protect FBI agents and witnesses, as well as the ongoing investigation into Trump. The redactions would leave “very little—nothing of substance,” Jay Bratt, chief of the Department of Justice’s Counterintelligence (snip), told Reinhart(snip) The government has met its burden of showing that its interests outweigh public access to unsealing the entire affidavit, Reinhart said

No doubt still sulking over the Roe v. Wade reversal — the opening sentence of their recent op-ed published in The New York Times is, “When liberals lose at the Supreme Court — as they increasingly have over the past half-century” — two Ivy League professors laid out their claims for an America without Constitutional limitations. They suggest, “the way to seek real freedom will be to use procedures consistent with popular rule.” Of course, the piece is polished sewage: tyranny of the majority is a very real, and very dangerous threat to the individual, (perhaps they should go read Federalist 10, but they likely wouldn’t understand that either).
