DETROIT — A tax credit of up to $7,500 could be used to defray the cost of an electric vehicle under the Inflation Reduction Act now moving toward final approval in Congress. But the auto industry is warning that the vast majority of EV purchases won’t qualify for a tax credit that large. That’s mainly because of the bill’s requirement that, to qualify for the credit, an electric vehicle must contain a battery built in North America with minerals mined or recycled on the continent. And those rules become more stringent over time — to the point where, in a

There's a condo near us with a beautiful remodeled unit for sale. A couple wanted to buy it BUT there was no provision for a recharging station there. And, they learned the HOA refuses to allow one to be put in because electricity is a shared expense that they would be sponging off everyone else when they charged their Tesla.

My 2003 (that's right 20 years old) Nissan 350 Z still runs perfectly at 140,000 miles. I reckon the engine has at least 250K in it I'll buy an electric car when they give me one for free and I'll park it.

Oops, guess someone forgot to read the small print in the legislation in their rush to pass it. Now we have lots of green window dressing for EVs but no way to use it. Typical Democrat you have to pass the bill to know what is in the bill mentality.

#9 - Got you beat. My 1996 Jeep Cherokee is somewhere around 314,500 miles. I bought her used in 2000 (for $11,000) off the car lot in the local small town. She was from the Oakland Water District, so always had regular maintenance. She's a basic model; crank windows, a/c and heat, am/fm radio, 4wd auto, even a lighter and ash tray. The check engine is light burned out! Seven years ago we put in $5,000 and had all manner of engine-type things done and got a radio that worked. I do regular service and she runs like a top. She once got me over the ridge and down to highway over our gravel road through sixteen inches of unplowed snow. I will never sell. I'd be buried in her, but TK says we can't afford that many plots at the cemetery!

Pardon the second post. But its funny, every so often I see one of those dinky little shoe-skate looking electric cars on Hwy 101 traveling through our mountains. They struggle uphill maybe topping out at 50mph. Where are they going? Are they local people? Perhaps you could make a trip between towns comfortably, but going all the way up to Eureka, 150 miles, in one of those? There are hardly any gas stations on that route. It amazes me.

The Labor Department released the inflation report Wednesday and while any fair-minded person can tell the economy is far from looking up, President Joe Biden has well and truly embraced Orwellian dystopian doublethink and, instead of saying “2+2=5,” declared 8.5 equals zero. While holding a ceremony Wednesday to sign the PACT Act that, in part, addresses the healthcare needs of veterans who suffered illness or injury from exposure to burn pits, Biden attempted to draw a win on the consumer price index (CPI) coming in at 8.5 percent for the month of July. That number was indeed a drop from

Georgia's Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has tested positive for COVID-19. "This morning I took my daily COVID test and tested positive for COVID-19," she tweeted on Wednesday. "Before my speech yesterday, I tested negative. Today I’m experiencing mild symptoms, and I’m grateful to have been vaccinated and boosted." Abrams said she would be spending the next few days at home, and taking meetings using Zoom and her phone. "I look forward to getting back on the road and meeting folks across Georgia soon," she said.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was projected to win her primary in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, setting up a likely third term in the House for a progressive member who has proven to be a GOP lightning rod since entering Congress. NBC and CNN both called the race shortly before 11:30 p.m. EDT. The race proved unexpectedly close, however, with her Democratic opponent Don Samuels trailing her by only a few percentage points. A member of the “Squad,” a progressive group of Democrats in the House, Omar became the first Somali-American to be elected to Congress in 2018, in addition to

Twenty-eight civil rights and health care groups announced Tuesday they have requested that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) address “dietary racism” in national school lunch programs, raising concerns to the federal agency about forcing millions of minority children to drink cow’s milk without allowing them a healthier alternative. President Joe Biden's Tuesday remarks at a signing ceremony for the CHIPS and Science Act were punctuated by extremely heavy, repeated coughing. The speech marked Biden's second public appearance since returning to normal work following a two-week COVID-19 isolation. The president's physician, Kevin O'Connor, informed reporters that Biden had developed a "loose cough" during his rebound infection, although the symptoms dissipated throughout the week. (Tweet) The cough persisted throughout Biden's remarks and eventually forced him to blow his nose and repeatedly take sips of water from a glass at the podium. "Excuse me," the president said during one such outburst.

As recently as 2012, Iowa was basically a Democratic state that occasionally voted Republican. The political legacy of former Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin was still a very big deal. Three of Iowa's five congressmen were Democrats. Iowa had a very socially conservative Republican tradition, but it also had a strong left-wing populist Democratic tradition.
