West Village, Manhattan—As Pride weekend nears, the groundbreaking of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in New York City marked a landmark achievement in American history. The 3,700-square-foot building at 51 Christopher St. sits right next door to the Stonewall Inn, where the current bar is located. It honors the queer people who fought for equality at the Stonewall Uprising back in 1969 when police raided the popular gay club for serving liquor without a license. It became a turning point in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.(Snip)Organizers said the visitor center will offer an immersive experience through in-person and virtual tours, lecture series, exhibitions

President Biden met with offshore wind industry executives Thursday after snubbing oil executives summoned to Washington to come up with “concrete solutions” to combat skyrocketing gas prices. Mr. Biden, who has committed to fighting climate change by steering the U.S. away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy, is now battling skyrocketing prices at the pump which critics say is partly due to his policies. The wind energy rendezvous, which included senior administration officials, labor leaders, and several East Coast governors, marked the White House’s launch of a new federal-state offshore wind partnership meant to “jumpstart the American offshore wind industry.” “We’re about to build a better America,”

The Long Island library that decided to tear down Pride displays and remove books from children’s sections reversed its decision at an emergency meeting Thursday night. The Smithtown Library board of trustees voted 4-2 to rescind its controversial Tuesday night decision. One of the seven trustees abstained. The initial decision prompted a massive response from advocates and a strong statement from the governor, leading to the emergency meeting. On Tuesday, the board voted 4-2 in favor of a “motion to remove all Pride Displays, in addition to removing all books of the same subject on display, from all Children’s sections in all Smithtown Library buildings.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating one of the worst meningococcal outbreaks among gay and bisexual men in U.S. history, according to a recent press release.
"Getting vaccinated against meningococcal disease is the best way to prevent this serious illness, which can quickly become deadly," said Dr. José R. Romero, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. President Biden on Thursday inadvertently held up a comically detailed cheat sheet prepared by his staff instructing the gaffe-prone leader of the free world to “take YOUR seat” and to limit his remarks to “2 minutes.” A photographer snapped an image of the document when Biden held it up backward at a meeting with wind-industry executives, which he attended after skipping his administration’s morning meeting with oil companies about combatting record gas prices.(Snip) The typed-up note says that after reporters arrive, “YOU give brief comments (2 minutes).” When reporters depart, “YOU ask Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO, a question” and then “YOU thank participants” and “YOU depart.”
