New York—New York has relied on hotels to temporarily house the homeless for years, but now underutilized hotel space will be converted into permanent housing under a new plan announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday.(Snip)Hochul’s new plan involves a detailed application process for hotel owners and developers to convert their facilities. She said that run-down hotels can present a safety risk in their respective neighborhoods. “With hotels hit so hard by the pandemic, many of them never reopened, an opportunity has arisen to use vacant hotels in a way that’ll lift people up and give them yes, the dignity of a home,” Hochul said.

As a native New Yorker, I can confirm that for the past ten years, New Yorker voters are as dumb as posts for electing such idiotic mayors. I never voted for DeBlasio or the current fool who thinks he's presidential material. Neither did the Staten Islanders living in the only sane NYC boro. But we all voted for Trump and wish he had run for mayor in 2001.

Wonder if they can get frequent-traveler points and airline miles for their stays?

Maybe they ought to do it the other way 'round, that is, convert the housing for the homeless-- all the tents, packing boxes, abandoned vehicles and shipping containers--into New York City hotels, to give tourists the authentic feel of life in the Big Apple by crapping on the sidewalk, shooting up in public, selling single cigarettes and pushing the random Asian onto the subway tracks.

#2, I most certainly do not lump you in with the complacent masses or the lazy reporters! Quite the contrary.

The hotel owners are probably very glad to get some money for use of their rooms. Because what idiot would actually travel to New York City anymore unless they absolutely had to?

Not all homeless are crooks. Some are decent folks with hard luck. Some are the children of losers -- children who are stuck with lousy parents. Some are drunks, druggies, and/or mentally ill people. But lumping these people together into formerly rundown but now upgraded hotels doesn't fix the problem. The only thing it does is make liberals feel better.
Did you hear that? The only good this does is make liberals feel better. It doesn't solve the bigger problems.

When I go to NYC I generally stay at very nice hotels, get a balcony suite...because I smoke(and can expense it)
I read what they were paying per night for these "Flops" and it is more than the room costs/suite costs at all but 3 of NYC's top rated, Boutique Hotels, even then many of the rooms they pay for remain empty...still they pay..
I'm just surprised they didn't "Seize" the Trump hotels for this project...and force HIM to pay for it..

Why does someone want to destroy New York City because it is being consciously done? Too much evil going around.

The dignity of a home at the expense of the taxpayers. That idea could catch on.

Call them what they really are.....extremely low grade mental wards. No docs, no nurses, no treatments and they let these mentally ill roam free, to harm others and themselves.

As a former NY'er I have seen this movie before. Recently renovated or perfectly decent hotels will have the homeless living in these places. You do not want to deliver a pizza into those buildings. Lamps, chandeliers, outside house fixtures are used to swing from until they finally fall off. 'stuff' hangs out of windows. Don't want to bother taking the trash to the respective place or room, just open the window and toss it. More what they are used to. Late or even early PM you definitely do not want to even pass these new 'hotels for the homeless'!

The homeless who are drug addicts need witnesses around every time they shoot up.
Only then will they have a chance to get a shot to counteract an OD.
When the homeless addicts are put in private rooms they OD and die alone.
We've seen it everywhere this idea has been implemented.
Maybe that's the idea?

New Yorkers are far too smart to care and news reporters are too lazy to investigate, but hotels for the homeless is one of the best scams ever. Crooked former Mayor Bill De Blasio, aka Warren Wilhem, had a bunch of large-scale campaign contributors who happened to own run-down hotels. In comes the Rona and business is down, so the city, using tax dollars, rented rooms at these hotels for top dollar and let the homeless trash them. Now these flops need to be upgraded, and once again the taxpayers stand ready to foot the bill because they're so eager to "help the homeless," as the hotel owners laugh up their sleeves.
