In the wake of the deadly Uvalde school shooting that left 19 kids and two adults dead, the heated debate of whether to arm teachers or not has been a major topic between both parties.
In the midst of all the gun control talk, Ohio may soon allow teachers to be armed in classrooms.
HB 99, which passed by a 23-9 vote in the State Senate and a 56-34 vote in the State House, was fast-tracked through the legislature, allowing teachers and other school staff to carry guns on school premises requiring only 24 hours of training.
It would mandate at least 18 hours of general training,

Teachers are the true first responders in a school incident. Right now they are defenseless. Arm and train them. Station a "real" police officer in each school. Where the school is a campus, multiple LEOs may be required. Harden the schools. It's not rocket science. Ohio is getting it right.

There is a reason that shooters prefer to go to a gun-free zone to do their carnage.
They tend to get shot dead by a good guy with a gun, when they go other places.

Proud to be a Buckeye. The liberal's answer to shooters is to throw erasers, books, chairs, etc...This I feel would just make the person a target. I am sure the thoughts of those caught in such a bad situation are saying 'I wish I had a gun'. I doubt they are wishing for another eraser to throw. The liberals do not want armed guards or armed teachers for it might psychologically harm the children. Which is worse, being psychologically harmed by a gun-carrying friendly trained police officer (which I highly doubt truly would occur) or being harmed by a crazed gunman's bullet? It is time schools are stopped being made a soft target. As I have always thought, armed teachers are not THE answer but just another layer of protection added in keeping our children safe.
Something is seriously wrong within our society. I can not put a finger on it.

It's a first step.
We know teachers and staff already have the right to carry a firearm according to the Constitution 2A. Training requirements and school board approval are infringements.
Schools can require a background check as a general condition of employment. But the training should be optional and free of cost for the teachers. And of course, it's up to the individual teacher or staff member whether they want to carry or not.
Finally, parents should receive vouchers to send their kid to any school they want. Let the liberals send their kids to gun-free-zone schools.

Many veterans would do this work protecting children for practically nothing. Better yet, offer veterans totally free college, room and board to become teachers and replace the leftists we have now with American patriots. No deranged kid with a gun will ever get past the front door.

Chances are only a small percentage of today’s teachers will want to carry concealed handguns, as guns not included in most teachers liberal to progressive lifestyle and politics.

This is the right answer, deterrence with the capability to ACTUALLY stop a violent criminal quickly and NOT waiting for police who may arrive to late.....or just stand by and let it happen like the cowards in Uvalde.

Oh, they'll 'allow' them to, will they? Don't they mean they'll quit violating the teacher's rights under color of law? The 2nd says, '...shall not be infringed.' It doesn't have any qualifiers.

There is an ohio company founded after Sandy Hook that teaches teachers(and school staff) as well as Church folks...FREE. Not only in general tactical defense with firearms and other measures but with site specific components, interactive simulations "shoot/don'tshoot" with reactive visual targets/weapons systems that film in the actual classrooms/hallways/offices first and then use that film to create the interactive Hogans Alley in the training locations.(I was dating a teacher and her administration asked me to come be a guard after sandy hook, I did for several weeks until they could formulate a long term defense strategy. They took an internal vote and over half the teachers wanted weapons training, the others signed off on having those that chose to being armed at school and coordinating with them in an action plan)

Hey Buckeyes, you should be proud. Did anyone see the interview with two little women schoolteachers? I did not catch it all but a news anchor was asking in this rural community about this proposed legislation. These two ladies said I will proudly wear the holster on my hip every day, I will go to every class so I am well-trained, anything to help my children feel safe every day. God bless her!

Well now, that was quick. It was even faster than airlines, post 9-11, allowing pilots to carry weapons.

Sadly, the local school board can block this.
