There is a lot of mumbo-jumbo psych talk circulating around the dead bodies in Uvalde, a town I knew pretty well because I consulted frequently with their hospital administrator.
I want to remind readers of the problem of personality disorders (P.D.) and distinguish P.D. from mental illness.
P.D. is a pattern of anti-social or dysfunctional behavior caused not by mental illness, but by bad manners and bad social adaptation. There are three groups of personality disorders. In the emergency medicine part of my life, I taught residents that P.D.s are the weird, the wild, and the withdrawn.

How convenient that we have another mass shooting in Texas no less at the same time the NRA is having their convention in Houston. Coincidence anyone?

Call me simple, but anything causing a person to kill innocent children is a mental disorder. Seems like a fine line between PD and mental illness or maybe it’s a way to dismiss the actions of certain people. Call it whatever you want but the end result seems to be the same crazy people killing people that need to be stopped and fast. Just my unprofessional opinion.

Are Great White sharks mentally ill? Are piranha mentally ill? Are grizzly bears mentally ill?
Can they be "rehabilitated"?
What is the protective mechanism when dealing with any predator?
Clearly, it is permanent removal and/or permanent avoidance.
You do not allow predators in society. You take them out, for good.

FTA: P.D.s are not a mental illness; they are a culturally dysfunctional behavior problem.
Oh, OK, then. So I guess exhibiting culturally dysfunctional BEHAVIOR in our culturally dysfunctional SOCIETY is somehow understandable?
The bottom line is the guy could function. After all, he made a plan and then followed through by purchasing firearms and ammo. If he had been prevented from purchasing guns, it's possible he would've driven his car into a crowd of people. Who knows? The root problem is NOT the gun! The mentally ill behavior came BEFORE the gun.
The root problem is that many felt this guy was a weirdo, but nobody said anything. I think political correctness weighs heavily on our kids' minds. They've been taught that they have to accept abnormal behavior, not question it. Respect everyones' uniqueness. We need to find a way that rewards kids for questioning something that doesn't seem right. Maybe a promise of anonymity would help?

Potato, potahto. I'm sure those kids parents aren't in the mood for learned equivocation. These perps are heartless, murderous psychos. The treatment protocol should be the same as with rabid dogs.

And yet, no one ever wants to talk about involvement in the occult and the demonic.

From one of the articles linked:
A culture that confuses evil with sickness and refuses to see evil for what it is and deal with it accordingly does no favors for those guilty of evil, their victims, the culture at large, or those who are truly mentally ill.

I would say that true mental illness is based upon something physixlly wrong with the brain and its chemistry. A personality disorder has to do with whether the person was appropriately brought up with regard for morality. One hhas to do with nature; the other with nurture.

Informative article. I suspected that post-modernism, subjective truth, "speech = violence," feelings over facts, and other crazy beliefs had a lot do with the insanity (sorry, personality disorders) going on today. Glad a psychiatrist confirmed it.

Prescription drugs prescribed to young children are never discussed and the absence of a father in the home is not mentioned.

Have we heard that Ramos’s father was not in the home? He made a statement the other day. His living with his grandmother, who lived near his family’s home, was a recwnt thing. He’d only been there 3 months.

To clarify my last reply, Ramos’s father made a statement the other day so he is around. Ramos the son just moved to his grandmother’s nearby house 3 months ago… Photos of the family - including the grandparents - showed pretty ordinary, solid-looking people.

Excusing these evil, violent people with the convenient "mentally ill" claim apparently absolves them of blame in the minds of leftists.
Personally, I do not care in the slightest WHY he killed 20 people. The FACT that he killed 20 people means he needs to be killed as soon as possible, by whatever means necessary. Fortunately, that has already been accomplished, if sadly too late for many of his victims.
"Mental illness" is a legal defense. It should not be. Regardless of some psychological terms, killers need to DIE because the leftists have proven time and time again that if you put them in prison, they WILL get out via leftist parole boards or leftist governors, and they will kill again.
NO repeat killers. Execute them all, on the scene is best.

BS.
If you have a personality disorder, you're mentally ill.
Masking excuses like that is exactly how we've gotten to where we are now.

Those with personality disorders are more dangerous toward society than those with schizophrenia which is classic mental illness vs major depression, bipolar disorder.

What are they then Doctor? Because it seems only the mentally afflicted engage in this behavior, and it seems to happen more on the Left side of the aisle than the right. But then the right side tends to be more religious based as well. That trust and faith in God keeps one on the straight and narrow path and doesn't encourage this kind of behavior.

Never assume.
Evil is actually the sin nature we all are now born with, thanks to Adam.
There, but for the grace of God, go I…
Read Genesis 1-3, and Romans, if anyone doubts this.

An interesting discussion of personality disorders....which seems to apply to most of the leftists, in general.
