Roger Scruton was a British philosopher who spent his life defending conservative values. Sir Roger, as he was after his knighthood in 2016, saw the antagonist culture as a rejection of inherited values, including gender distinctions, capitalism, patriotism, religious faith, and everyday morality such as honesty and prohibitions against theft, adultery, and other evils. No one understood antagonism better, on a theoretical level, than Scruton, and he wrote with passion and clarity. For anyone wishing to understand the culture of antagonism, Scruton's books, including The Meaning of Conservatism, The Aesthetics of Music, and How to Be a Conservative, are a good place to start.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley gave the commencement speech at West Point last weekend, warning graduates of the new threats they’ll face. Word to the wise, cadets: Milley isn’t a guy anyone should listen to, on this or anything else. He’s been disastrously wrong time and again, for years.Where to start? Milley defended the decision to leave more than 100 Americans stranded in Afghanistan after the US pullout and called the withdrawal a “logistical success.”And let’s not forget the bungled US drone attack that killed an aid worker there, as well as two other adults and seven children.

A fifth-grade student in Florida was arrested Saturday for threatening to pull off a mass shooting via text messages, police said. The 10-year-old boy, a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, was handcuffed and walked into a police cruiser Saturday evening for making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount.”

Arizona Rep. Debbie Lesko is doing something for women, and not the kind no one can define. The Republican has sponsored a “Women’s Bill of Rights” to provide ladies legal protection against gender ideology.“[T]here are important reasons,” H.Res.1136 asserts, “to distinguish between the sexes with respect to athletes, prisons, domestic violence shelters, restrooms, and other areas, particularly where biology, safety, and privacy are implicated.”The initiative goes so far as to claim it knows what a woman is. As it turns out, such a creature is different than a man:

The Texas school shooter’s grandmother, who he shot in the face before killing 19 kids and two teachers, may never be able to talk again, a relative told The Post on Sunday. “The bullet went into Sally’s jaw just next to her mouth and shattered all her teeth,” said Jason Ybarra, a second cousin of injured granny Celia “Sally” Martinez Gonzales, 66.“If the bullet was an inch in another direction, it would have blown her head off,” he said.“She’s doing fairly well, considering what happened. But she may never be able to talk again,” added Ybarra, 45.Martinez Gonzales is currently only communicating by writing, Ybarra said.

During The Joe Rogan Experience podcast #1824 host Joe Rogan responded to talk of gun bans by stressing banning guns will mean only criminals will be armed. Rogan referenced the Uvalde shooting and other similar incidents then said; “It’s like, how do you stop that? No one knows how to stop that. What is the answer? Is the answer to take everyone’s guns? Well, they’re not gonna give their guns up. Only criminals are gonna have guns.” Sportskeeda.com reports Rogan said, “This country has a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem.”

There is "a lot of outrage" over President Joe Biden visiting Uvalde, Texas, days after a mass shooting killed 21 in a local elementary school, according to a reporter there. Stella Chavez, an immigration and demographics reporter for KERA News, was asked by CNN's Brian Stelter if the families of the victims care about Biden's trip on Sunday. "I think it depends on who you ask," Chavez said during an appearance on Reliable Sources. "I think, for the most part, the families who were affected want to focus on their loved ones who were killed. (Snip)But I also know, I’ve heard people say, you know, now is not the time

With the jury out in the trial of former 2016 Clinton campaign counsel Michael Sussmann, the usual odds-takers appeared on cable news, rating the chances of a conviction. Despite the seemingly overwhelming evidence against Sussmann, the jury’s makeup seems strikingly favorable for the defense. One verdict, however, appears to need little deliberation. It concerns the Department of Justice, and particularly the FBI. The trial confirmed what many have long alleged about how top officials eagerly accepted any Russia collusion claim involving former President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
