Crime has been legalized in NYC. Fun, fun, fun for the criminal class.
Not so much fun for any normal people left in the place.

OP - I believe AOC is elected out of the borough of queens, I'm sure whoever was elected in the Bronx is just as bad.

Someone educate me here. For years, cars have had keys or fobs that are coded so that an attempt to force the ignition won't work. Most new cars don't have a conventional key slot and require a matched key fob to be on the driver.
What am I missing?

Re #7, I don't know how, but I know that ANY security can be breached by some smart guys. I have no doubt that there is some crooked way to bypass the systems.

Drive an old car that looks like it needs a lot of work while actually mechanically sound.
Therefore not worth stealing.

RE, #7. I would imagine that a large percentage are carjackings, gun to the head, take the car. Car theft knowledge passes quickly around the criminal set, connections with dealerships and mechanics, fake keys and FOBs, bypasses in the wiring, etc. Down in Tampa, the kids break into dealerships and take the keys from the hooks on the wall so I'm guessing that is also popular in NYC. They also have a lot of businesses with very little self-parking so you have a kid that parks it for you. One group in Florida had a clever trick, take a BMW for a test ride right before closing time, hand the salesman back a fake BMW key and come back after closing time to drive it home.

At this point, it might be the same person that stole a car, got arrested, then got released by DA. Then the perrp just repeated the cycle 4,467 times.

There have been auto thefts and car breaks in my small town, with gated communities in the last month. Right out of peoples driveways!

Pervasive unchecked crime is just the price they pay for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity. Soon no one will have cars and they can all ride mass transit like good worker ants, minus the armed security detail enjoyed by the MIA celebrity mayor. The boogie-down BX Bronx (as natives call it) is hardest-hit, which serves them right for putting AOC in office.
