Joe Biden agreed to pay son Hunter's legal fees for his deal with a Chinese government-controlled company, emails reveal. The revelation ties the president even closer to Hunter's overseas business dealings—and makes his previous claims that he never discussed them with his son, even less plausible. Joe was able to pay the bills after earning millions of dollars through his and his wife's companies after he left office as vice president.(Snip)But the president's financial filings reveal that he declared almost $7million more income on his tax returns than he did on his government transparency reports, an analysis by DailyMail.com of the president's financial records shows.

Jeff Bezos on Monday questioned whether his fellow billionaire Elon Musk could be making Twitter vulnerable to pressure from China, as a result of Musk's extensive business liabilities in the Asian nation.'Interesting question,' mused Bezos, who in 2013 bought The Washington Post with a view to protecting free speech and supporting journalism. 'Did the Chinese government just gain a bit of leverage over the town square?'He commented atop a retweet from a New York Times journalist, noting that Musk's Tesla was extremely exposed to China. China is Tesla's second largest market,

President Joe Biden is banning traditional incandescent lightbulbs in a push to be more energy efficient, but critics claim the switch to LED alternatives will prove costly for poorer Americans.
The Department of Energy (DOE) adopted two new rules Tuesday that strengthen energy efficiency standards for lightbulbs and will effectively phase out the sale of traditional bulbs by next year.
However, consumer analysts allege that not only are LED bulbs more expensive, costing nearly $4 each as opposed to $1 for an incandescent bulb, but are often not stocked in stores in lower-income communities. Around 30 percent of the two billion bulbs sold in the US every year are incandescent.

Harvard University President Lawrence Bacow announced Tuesday that the university will spend $100 million to study and redress its ties to slavery.
The funds will be put toward a “Legacy of Slavery Fund” to continue researching and memorializing the history, in part by working with descendants of black and Native American people enslaved at Harvard and their broader communities. The announcement follows the release of a report from the Presidential Initiative on Harvard & the Legacy of Slavery project, which Bacow commissioned in 2019.
“Harvard benefited from and in some ways perpetuated practices that were profoundly immoral,” Bacow said in an email to the university’s students, faculty and staff members obtained

Russia's top diplomat has warned that NATO is now fighting a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine and there is a 'very serious' risk the conflict could turn nuclear. Sergei Lavrov, speaking on Russian state TV last night, accused western leaders of risking a third world war by supplying heavy weapons to Ukraine with the goal of 'wearing down the Russian army'—an aim he described as an 'illusion'. Accusing NATO and its allies of attempting to bully Russia on the international stage, Lavrov said that tensions between east and west are now worse than during the Cuban missile crisis at the height of the Cold War. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday said there will “not be interference of any political or improper kind” in the Justice Department’s investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
Senator Bill Hagerty (R., Tenn.) questioned the attorney general about the investigation into President Biden’s son during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, asking whether Garland himself had been briefed on the investigation.
Garland replied that the probe is being led by David Weiss, the U.S. attorney in Wilmington, Delaware who was appointed by former President Donald Trump. “I’m aware of that, but he reports to you,” Hagerty said.
