It was a minor boost. A fourth shot of the Pfizer COVID vaccine increased protection against viral infection for only four to seven weeks, according to a massive study published Tuesday. The study included 1.25 million people age 60 and over in Israel who received their fourth dose between January and March. Israel only uses the Pfizer vaccine. People who got the fourth dose were half as likely to test positive for COVID four weeks later when compared to people who only had three doses, according to the study. But by the eighth week, the groups were almost equally likely to catch COVID, researchers found.

Following a two-day bench trial in U.S. District Court in Washington, New Mexico engineer Matthew Martin was acquitted Wednesday on four misdemeanor charges by U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden. Martin claimed that he thought the police had allowed him into an entrance near the Capitol Rotunda on Jan. 6, 2021.
McFadden said that, based on video of the scene, that assertion was at least “plausible” and that prosecutors failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The FBI remotely accessed and disinfected US-located devices running a powerful new strain of Russian state botnet malware, federal authorities said Wednesday. Those authorities added that the Kremlin was using the malware to wage stealthy hacks of its adversaries.

Smiley Martin, the second of three suspects arrested in connection with Sunday’s Sacramento, CA, shooting, was released early from prison in February despite District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert opposing the release.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Martin is charged with “assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.”
The Los Angeles Times points out Martin’s gun had allegedly been stolen and was converted into a fully automatic weapon, and he will face charges for those things as well.
Martin was convicted in 2018 and received a ten-year sentence but was released early from prison, despite DA Schubert’s opposition to the early release.
More than 60 Republicans on Tuesday voted against a resolution expressing support for NATO and calling on President Joe Biden to strengthen the organization's committement to defending democracy.

Portman, Ohio’s junior U.S. senator, did it in 2016 following the death that February of Justice Antonin Scalia. Portman joined his fellow Republicans in insisting that the seat shouldn’t be filled during an election year. Thus now-Attorney General Merrick Garland was denied even a hearing on his nomination to the high court by Democratic President Barack Obama. Instead, we’re stuck with Justice Neil Gorsuch, an appointee of Republican President Donald Trump.
