SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California's urban water users and farmers who rely on supplies from state reservoirs will get less than planned this year as fears of a third consecutive dry year become reality, state officials announced Friday. Water agencies that serve 27 million people and 750,000 acres (303,514 hectares) of farmland, will get just 5% of what they've requested this year from state supplies beyond what's needed for critical activities such as drinking and bathing. That's down from the 15% allocation state officials had announced in January, after a wet December fueled hopes of a lessening drought. But a wet winter

When I lived in Puerto Rico we had a serious drought. The government turned the water off for everyone 14 hours a day. The rich who had swimming pools were lucky because they had water to use for washing and bathing but otherwise we were all in the same boat. You can bet the Hollywood elite won't suffer but the farmers, who provide the FOOD they eat, will. Cut back on the people who live on the coasts and monitor the usage of everyone..

And yet again the msm ignores the bigger picture - the water storage crisis at Lake Mead and Lake Powell. And presto chango, they will report on it right about when the farmers cry for water and the hydroelectric plants are shut down and those in the southwest can't buy fresh produce and will have their rolling blackouts back. The Colorado Rockies won't be of much help either because the snowpack for this water year is below average again.

Who could have predicted water would become an serious issue when you plop down a multi million population city and thousands of farms all of which need massive amounts of water in a place with NO large natural river systems and a low rain Mediterranean climate?

The have had decades to build GREEN desalination plants, but for some reason they never get around to doing it. Maybe the money set aside gets diverted into the hands of democrat run development companies?

Democrats are great about creating new problems and emergencies, but like everything else they NEVER ever solve anything.

Drinking water, I agree is critical. But water for food crops is vital as well. After water, food is the most important survival resource.
This is a man-made disaster - a political disaster of Marxist proportions.

Desalination plants require huge amounts of power. Power we don't have without building nuclear power plants which will obviously never happen here because "NUKULAR! EEEEP!"
The other problem: over 90% of water goes to farms which isn't a problem per se but most of that water is going to high value cash crops which use tremendous amounts of water. If they stopped farming useless crops we'd always have plenty of water. Residential and industry each only use 1-4% of water depending on who you listen to. Green lawns and long showers are not the problem.

Think it's bad now...wait 20 years. I keep telling my son to leave for another state w/ ample water supply before he becomes so established.
And for those who rage against Californians moving into their states, suck it up. It's now our turn to swing the door the other direction.

History says this situation will get drier before it gets wetter. Climate changes in cycles no matter how many rain dances you do or sacrifices you make to the Moon. Just wait until the fires start and the air turns yellow and gray. Good luck on finding a place to recharge your Tesla on the way out of a burning forest.

Don't be so hasty, #10. A high-speed train line all the way to Seattle would enable the beach bunnies to bring down several hundred tanker cars of water a day and fill all of their pools They could just ask Joe for about 900 billion dollars from the infrastructure/welfare bill to build it and have enough left over for my consulting/advisory fee.

Some day they will stop hoping for an occasional wet winter to replenish the water supplies. Desalination plants would permanently end the drought worries.
