The good news: Russia’s foreign minister assured the world that Vladimir Putin has no desire to follow up his war in Ukraine by invading other countries. The bad news: Sergei Lavrov flatly denied that Russia attacked Ukraine, too.
“Why should they believe a word you say?” asked a reporter. Good question, that:
The Russian foreign minister, in a news conference following the meeting, denied Russia had invaded Ukraine.
“We have no plans to invade other countries. We didn’t invade Ukraine,” said Mr. Lavrov, speaking in Russian through a live translation, in response to a question about Russia’s intentions.
Mr. Lavrov didn’t explain the statement when questioned.
“I think you said Russia did not invade

Just some "little green men" from Z-istan and V-istan....based on the Z's and V's on their armored vehicles.
Note that no Red Stars on their vehicles.
Hey, Vlad - what are you ashamed of? No country markings on your proud Russian armored vehicles?
They denied that they invaded Crimea and eastern Ukraine 7 or 8 years ago, too. Just "some little green men" - must have come from Mars, I guess.

I think the more interesting fact is his nervousness during the press conference.

In the minds of Putin and Lavrov it is impossible that Russia could have invaded Ukraine because Ukraine is in Russia.

I think he referred to "special operations". Maybe the translator should have said "breach of the peace" or perhaps "a police action" (hat tip to the UN and Harry Trueman. Their descriptions of the Korean War)?

Psaki learned from the best. I wonder if she did a summer internship "under" Lavrov? After all he's all in for red. She's the only other person who could lie like Lavrov.

Poutaine Head consiers the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions to be Russian territory, possibly because the majority in those regions speak Russian. He acts as if Russia's attack was not an invasion, but a defense of those regions against Ukrainian rule.
In the 1991 referendum in those regions, asking whether people wanted to be part of Ukraine or Russia, just over half chose the former. Not quite a clear mandate, and not justification for military action, in my view.

maybe the question should be whether Russia is planning any brotherly and benign interventions which will be supported by the Russian Army toting thermobaric weapons launchers with air cover and helpful misile strikes on buildings that Russia assesses as military outfits nobody needs, such as baby hospitals.

Apparently Lavrov is paid well to make a fool of himself. There are clever lies and stupid lies. This is the latter. Russia wants respect, but with antics like this all they will get is disgust.

The clown in his English suits came to negotiate something that actually cannot be negotiated. The Russians are not in the Ukraine, and he does not have the power to negotiate or agree to anything! So why is he schlepping around the globe? To show off his suit???

Re #8....and the reason those people speak Russian is that Stalin murdered millions of Ukrainians in the 1930s and moved in Russian peasants to work the farms of the people he had murdeered, as part of his collectivization of farms. The original farmers had resisted this communist collectivization of their many generations old farms.....so they were killed.
Those Russians are not legitimately in those regions, IMO.

Putin: "Just lie."
Lavrov: "Will that work?"
Putin: "Works for Biden."
