California’s state panel on “reparations” for slavery postponed a decision on who should qualify for compensation—whether only the descendants of slaves, or all people of color, based on the idea that the United States suffers from “systemic racism.”(Snip)When the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans launched in 2021, one member claimed that black Americans were treated as badly in California as they were in the South in the years after the Civil War. However, the question of who should qualify for reparations remained unanswered as the committee began. “California Secretary of State Shirley Weber has told the reparations task force to prioritize

So, where are they getting the money for reparations? How do you tax just White people? Just give it to the democrat party cause that's where it's going to end up anyway after the lawyers take their 20%.

A more important question is "who is 'black?' What percentage of 'black' blood will qualify you as black?' Let's say I'm 1/24 black - do I get 40 acres and a mule? And are they going to take it away from me to give it to me? Just wondering. . .

The solution is simple. Unless you're still alive from all those years ago, you get nothing.

It should be how you identify emotionally. Men identify as women and next thing they are competing in women’s sports or bathrooms. I’m whit but for purposes of reparations i am white and identifying as a southern black plantation cotton picking son of a slave directly imported from Africa. So pay up suckers.

What about the Chinese? California oppressed them much worse than any blacks. Or the Japanese who got deported to Manzanar? Or the Irish who worked on the railways and in the gold fields? Or the braceros who worked in the Central Valley picking crops? The whole thing is a real tar baby. Oops, can I say that?

They will end up giving dollars to everyone and will eventually run out of dollars. Stupid plan.

Poster #8 --- if they run out of money, then they should go to Africa and get money from the ones who sold them. They sold their own people. Where did the money go? Get a life, people!

In 1850, California entered the union as a free state, not a slave state. Just sayin'.

I saw Emmitt Smith on TV once, they were doing a genealogy search on him and found him to be 80% african, black. They said that was an abnormal percentage, most blacks were a lot higher in white blood. SO, are they gonna figure it by how much black you are?

Gee, I seem to remember us having this very discussion right here on this forum. And we all came to the conclusion that it was an impossible decision. Too bad that the California legislators don’t lurk here - we could have saved them a lot of time.

I am still having a problem with the term people of color.
As a youth over 70 years ago I was taught that blacks were Colored People.
The NAACP still terms Colored People.
That term became unacceptable.
Now they are People of color? What the hell is the difference in where the words are placed?

What about all the blacks who have treated other blacks terribly? Look at all the black on black crime. Are whites supposed to ante up for that also. And don't say that they wouldn't be killing each other if they lived in Africa because all you have to do is read the newspapers from Africa to see how well they are getting along with each other. Left-wing idiots don't have enough constructive things to think about so they come up with this destructive reasoning.

Next move if the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans can't figure it out then just steal all the money and close up shop. That's what this is all about stealing California taxpayer money. Everybody a king except the white man in the Golden State of California.

Tracing genealogy to determine percentage of blackness is an impossible task, given that most blacks do not know who their daddy was.

I'm completely against reparations but here's a thought, only give this reparation money to people who work. People who are on government welfare programs, especially those recipients who have been on the dole for generations get nothing as they've been receiving reparations for decades now. This should stir the pot.

I guess they could add a bunch of their relatives to the reparations board and then give everybody on the board a big raise in pay, while they study the problem for another year.

Great point #1. I suppose the easiest solution would be to not subject blacks to the CA state income tax. Of course, just like federal taxes, they've got to be paying state income tax to get the benefit of not paying them. Quite a pickle.

I read that comment about Emment Smith. If we’re going to go down that road, why not just have every applicant (black democrat) submit a sample to Ancestry.com and be compensated according to his black percentage :
25% African gets 25% of his share of the “free” money.

The test is EXTREMELY simple. If you can prove that YOU, personally were ever sold into slavery, you deserve reparations. If not, you deserve NOTHING.
Since the slaves were freed in 1864, IIRC, if you were born a slave for a week, you would have to be 157 years old. I'm betting there are no folks who qualify.
Nobody else qualifies. NOT ONE PERSON.

My guess is Mad-Max Maxine Waters will be first in line for the reparations. The fact that she has millions of dollars squirreled away and makes almost $200K/year will never be mentioned.
