Putin is not afraid of Joe Biden, the newly-woke U.S. military, the Keystone Kops at the NSA, CIA or sundry other alphabet organizations right down to BIPOC and LGBTQ, or his speechwriter “doctor” Jill, or the yes-men (er, persons) in the White House. The Kamala Kackle gives him pause, but he has people to handle her.
No, Putin is not afraid of any of them. In fact, it’s that collection of nitwits that tempts him.
Here’s what he’s afraid of, for good reasons.

Mr. Beaton is an interesting commentator on many issues. He's way, way down on the list of persons whose opinion I value on international relations and especially Putin.

This Ukraine “crisis” is useful on all sides if managed properly. Putin gains higher oil prices, as do American and other producers. If he pushes NATO and the US a bit, he’s a hit at home like Biden would be in the US if he pushed harder. Americans love a good crisis that involves brinksmanship and nuclear war.
Ukraine is the Alfred E. Neumann of all this. What, they worry? Not much.

This all boils down to Russia and Ukraine. It is clear the West would only offer token resistance.

It's not our business. biden is doing this to try to save his presidency. It will get everyones mind off of the disastrous covid mandates, inflation, pure corruption of the democratic party and other items I'm sure I forgot. Let all of congress people sons and daughters go first. Now what do you think?

I think Putin is just having fun messing with Biden.
All the Presidential hysterical rhetoric and troop deployments being ramped up -- and then Putin say "Boo. The exercises are over, just like I said."
Who's left with egg on his face?

After many years of reading #1’s astute postings on many, many topics; I have come to trust his judgment. My question to him and to every other Ldotter is simple: What is the national interest of The United States of America in Ukraine? Please, do not give me that “defending democracy” rubbish. I consider “democracy” in the same light as did the Founding Fathers. They considered it as what it truly is: rule by the mob. They despised it and so do I.

Putin is not doing all this for nothing. He wants something, and probably will get whatever that is.

What should be a worry is Russia and China working together on a global scale.

Glenn beaton is relying on rationality on the part of the players.
Rationality and war don't go together.

I don't think Beaton has ever talked to Putin, or has any idea what Putin will do. Biden is trying to be tough on Russia to detract from his incompetence, weakness, and long list of failures at home. The U.S. is in worse financial shape than after WWII. We cannot afford a war with Russia, and Russia knows it.

From what Ive been able to glean from all of this. Russia wants a stop to the expansion of NATO. They do not want NATO military forces near their borders. They dont want US missiles or ABM sites on their borders. Then there are accusations of the US going back on its word.
I dont think that Russia wants Ukraine.....but it might be happy to annex the ethnically Russian portions of it. Russia will stand down when they get concessions from the US and NATO. Think of this as the Cuban Missile Crisis in reverse. Bonus if Putin can humiliate Biden in the process.

The question is does Russia intend to invade all of Ukraine which would include the western non-Russian part of Ukraine that would resist the Russians, or only the Russian speaking portions of Eastern Ukraine where after initial resistance the Russians would probably be welcomed by much of the population there that speaks Russian?
Remember the Nazis found out pretty quickly that it was not good to underestimate the Russians. Clearly most of NATO Europe is not worried much about a Russian invasion, excepting the three small Baltic states along with Poland that has been stuck geographically throughout history between Germany and Russia. If NATO Europe was actually worried about a Russian invasion that would have bolstered their weak armed forces long ago and would not have depended upon the USA to defend them.

Putin wants a warm water port and needs the grain production that is really only possible in the Ukraine.
And he doesn't have to worry about Biden.
Oh, and remember his incursion into Georgia.

Putin poses bare-chested on horseback. Our “leader” shuffles off stage being led by his wife. Putin is having a grand old time.

From everything I have been reading, nobody really cares. The Ukrainians certainly don't.
The Russians can walk in and claim victory without firing a shot. Senile Joe biden will bloviate, but not do anything (except probably give the Russians a few billion dollars of aid, as is the Demon-Rat "logic" -- to keep giving money to our enemies). There won't even be a ripple in the world markets.
With the world economy in a shambles and upheaval and uprisings everywhere -- all due to absolutely no leadership from impotent Senile Joe biden -- nobody is going to care what Russia does to what most of the world already considers to be part of Russia.

There sure are a lot of experts on whether Russia will invade or not. I suppose "I don't know" doesn't get clicks.

Here's another reason to know Putin is just playing games: If he really intended to invade, he'd be a little more secretive about it. Meanwhile, British and U.S. intel are patting themselves on the back -- for discovering stuff Putine planted for them to discover.
