The NYPD was forced to pump the brakes on the arrest of a dangerous ex-con wanted in a Harlem stick-up—the same week that two police officers were killed—after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office initially balked at cops’ request for a “no-knock” warrant, multiple law enforcement sources told The Post. Detectives were looking to nab Jaime Brown, who allegedly held up a bodega on Lenox Avenue with two handguns on Dec. 5—whipping out one of the pistols when he decided the store clerk was taking too long to fork over the cash, according to the sources.(Snip)“In my 39 years in the department,

For Hurricane Katrina survivors in the Lower Ninth Ward, it had seemed like a prayer answered: in 2006, Brad Pitt announced an initiative to rebuild New Orleans’ storm-ravaged Lower Ninth Ward with sustainable, flood-proof, affordable homes, designed by a list of A-list architects. The 109 homes on offer would give many survivors a chance to become first-time homeowners, and bring back a community devastated by the hurricane.(Snip)The houses now list a frightening array of defects: water intrusion, black mold, porches rotted through, stair rails collapsing, fires caused by electrical problems, plumbing problems and poor ventilation, according to a class-action lawsuit filed against Pitt

Poor service. Limited menus and inventories. Shorter hours of operation. The pandemic’s labor shortage has plagued restaurants, retailers and their customers, a new consumer survey from Premise, a global marketing data collector. And the near-term prognosis is none too cheery, says Wall Street trader Charles Mizrahi. “Shortage of labor is a temporary problem because demand is decreasing as the economy slows,” said Mr. Mizrahi, founder of Alpha Investor. “Businesses will soon not be worrying about too few employees, but having too few customers or sales.” Premise reported this week that 61% of U.S. consumers noted a decline in service quality at restaurants, 76% cited reduced hours of operations

Six former employees of Washington’s NFL franchise levied new allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against team owner Dan Snyder Thursday—with one claiming the owner instructed the team’s video department to splice together a sexually suggestive video of cheerleaders exposing their private areas. In a roughly two-hour long roundtable hearing with the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, former cheerleaders Melanie Coburn and Tiffani Johnston recounted their own experiences with Snyder, accusing the owner of ruling “by fear.”(Snip)Coburn also recalled taking an “awards trip” with several of her colleagues to Snyder’s home in Aspen, Colo., where she alleged a co-worker was pressured to drink alcohol

Border Patrol agents found 14 illegal immigrants stuffed inside two portable toilets last week and arrested an American man who said he was being paid to smuggle them deeper into the U.S. Agents sniffed out the smuggling operation after receiving a report of a drone incursion near McAllen, Texas. The federal government is warning travelers to avoid travel to Mexico due to the twin threats of COVID-19 and violent crime.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Mexico has reached a “very high level of COVID-19” so it is best to avoid going there. “If you must travel to Mexico, make sure you are vaccinated and up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines before travel,” the agency says on its website. But that’s not the only worry several weeks before spring break, according to USA Today, which highlighted a recent update from U.S. consular services. A State University of New York at Fredonia professor is under investigation by the school after videos emerged of him defending pedophilia and insisting it wasn’t “obvious” to him why it was wrong, according to a report. Professor Stephen Kershnar, who teaches libertarian philosophy and applied ethics at SUNY Fredonia, was filmed questioning whether pedophilia was in fact unethical.
“Imagine that an adult male wants to have sex with a 12-year-old girl. Imagine that she’s a willing participant,” Kershnar says in the viral clip shared on Twitter by Libs of TikTok.
“A very standard, very widely held view is that there’s something deeply wrong about this

Fort Pickett in Virginia has released its last Afghan evacuees, the Biden administration announced Wednesday, leaving just two military bases still housing people airlifted in August. All told, 68,000 evacuees have now been processed and set free into the U.S., and six bases that had been housing them have closed their camps.(Snip)The evacuees were given less security scrutiny than refugees but are being treated like refugees now that they’re here, with resettlement assistance from the federal government and from nearly 300 local organizations working to usher the Afghans into new communities.
Things have been a bit rocky, with some of the Afghans struggling to integrate because they lack English

President Joe Biden has offered Russian President Vladimir Putin access to NATO bases so that Moscow can verify the US does not have Tomahawk cruise missiles in Romania or Poland in a bid to avoid war in Ukraine. Sources close to Biden told Bloomberg on Tuesday the proposal would only come to fruition upon agreement with American allies, especially Poland and Romania. Russia would also need to share similar information about a number of bases housing ground-launched weapons. Biden's proposal reportedly aims to diminish the Kremlin's fears that the US could use the missiles to target Russia.
News of the proposal comes as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is set
