It has been two years since the world first noticed people were getting sick and dying from a novel coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China. As the seriousness of the disease became more apparent, policymakers around the world struggled with how to respond.Eventually, many leaders settled on policies of draconian lockdowns and restrictions in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. As these restrictions dragged on for months and years, some leaders trimmed their sails; some changed course completely. But most policy makers failed to keep in mind the fundamental axiom of governing, most pithily stated by Thomas Sowell: there are no solutions, there are only trade-offs.

A 16-year-old, up-and-coming rapper charged with shooting an NYPD cop in the Bronx walked free on bond Thursday—and cops are fuming over it. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring after four decades, and his successor will be a black woman, which he will nominate by the end of February.“Choosing someone to sit on the Supreme Court I believe is one of them most serious constitutional responsibility a president has. Our process is going to be rigorous. I will select a nominee worthy of Justice Breyer's legacy of excellence and decency. While I've been studying candidates’ backgrounds, I've made no decision except one,” the president said.

It’s not clear if this is a misunderstanding, an attempt to make President Biden look bad or just a CNN screw up. This afternoon a CNN national security correspondent claimed on Twitter that a fellow CNN correspondent had been given an account of President Biden’s recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to an unnamed source, Biden had said a Russian invasion was virtually certain and that Kyiv could be ‘sacked.” The actual report with those details was made on Jake Tapper’s show by reporter Matthew Chance:
https://twitter.com/TheLeadCNN/status/1486848578370912260
But the official White House account of the call was very different and the White House specifically pushed back on the CNN report.

More of this, please. The number of vulnerable Democrat incumbents up for re-election this year is growing. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) faces spending financial resources on seven additional campaigns. The number of vulnerable Democrats was already over two dozen. You love to see it, don’t you?
The seven names added to the list are Reps. Greg Stanton (Ariz.), Sanford Bishop (Ga.), Bill Foster (Ill.), Dan Kildee (Mich.), Josh Gottheimer (N.J.) Marcy Kaptur (Ohio), and Jennifer Wexton (Va.). One race caught a break, though. Thanks to re-districting shoring up her chances, Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan was taken off the list.

Washington - A federal court has rejected a plan to lease millions of acres in the Gulf of Mexico for offshore oil drilling, saying the Biden administration did not adequately take into account the lease sale's effect on planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions, violating a bedrock environmental law.
The decision Thursday by U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras in Washington sends the proposed lease sale back to the Interior Department to decide next steps. The judge said it was up to Interior to decide whether to go forward with the sale after a revised review, scrap it or take other steps.
Environmental groups hailed the decision and said the ruling gave President Joe

President Joe Biden delivered remarks Thursday on the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer - and confirmed he would select a black woman to be Breyer's replacement, which prompted Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to immediately stoke fears the president would select someone endorsed by the 'radical left.'
'Our process is going to be rigorous. I will select a nominee worthy of Justice Breyer's legacy of excellence and decency,' Biden said. 'While I've been studying candidates' backgrounds and writings, I've made no decision except one: the person I will nominate will be someone of extraordinary qualifications, character, experience and integrity.'

Two men have been charged with the murder of law student Aya Hachem who was mistakenly gunned down in a botched drive-by shooting.
Tyre firm boss Feroz Suleman, 40, arranged the execution of a rival businessman in broad daylight but the gunman he hired instead shot dead innocent passer-by Aya. The 19-year-old who dreamed of becoming a solicitor had fled from violence in her native Lebanon as a child to settle with her family in Blackburn, Lancashire. Miss Hachem was shot on May 17 last year while on a trip to a nearby supermarket to buy food ready for when her family would break their Ramadan feast

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard Law professor and legal ally of President Joe Biden’s administration, has stated that vice presidents do not have the authority to make a tie-breaking vote for a Supreme Court nominee’s approval in the Senate.
News of Justice Stephen Breyer’s intent to retire broke Wednesday, though the 87-year-old has not formally announced the move. The news puts Biden in the position of having to pass a nominee through a 50-50 Senate, raising the question of whether Harris can cast a tie-breaking vote.

President Joe Biden’s approval rating has fallen off a cliff in Georgia, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll released Thursday that showed just one-third of registered voters approve of the Democrat’s job performance. That’s a sharp decline from the 51% of voters who gave Biden high marks in the AJC’s May poll. And it’s a troubling sign for Democrats eager to build off their victories in the last election, which ended with a narrow Biden victory and a Democratic sweep of U.S. Senate runoffs. The poll also found Gov. Brian Kemp ahead of Democrat Stacey Abrams in an early test

We’re into week two of the Glenn Youngkin administration in red Virginia, and so far they’ve demonstrated a commitment to fulfilling their campaign pledges to put parents first in the state when it comes to their children’s education. West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin pointed out a fact that many seem to have forgotten, namely that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. On Tuesday, the Manchin pointed out that he’s not particularly concerned about a Sanders backed primary challenge because of this fact.Sanders has run for president twice as a Democrat and maintains leadership in the Senate caucus, but he has never changed his partisan designation from independent. According to Manchin, Sanders isn’t just an independent socialist, but also one who’s ideas are not popular with the majority of Americans. “It’s not what I think the majority of Americans represent,”

Is Joe Biden trying to top the vile, cruel record of blue-state governors such as New York's Andrew Cuomo, who seeded COVID patients into the nursing homes?
It sure looks like it, given his strange, sudden, and absolute shutdown of monoclonal antibody treatments on patients who are being successfully being treated with the therapy in Florida. For vulnerable, sick people waiting in line for it, including those right up to the date of scheduled treatment, tough luck, go to the back of the line and see if you can find some other treatment, and hope your COVID does not progress to the morgue.
That's what Joe Biden is offering Florida,

Jan. 26 -- Smoking marijuana impacts adults' ability to drive safely, yet most who use the drug believe otherwise, a study published Wednesday by JAMA Psychiatry found.
Adults in the study performed "significantly" less well on tests designed to assess their driving abilities, including reaction times 30 minutes and 90 minutes after smoking marijuana, the data showed. They also had "borderline" declines in driving performance 3 1/2 hours after using the drug. By 4 1/2 hours after use, driving performance returned to normal levels, the researchers said.

The U.S.-backed Syrian forces were able to retake control of a prison after Islamic State terrorists launched a sophisticated attack to free their brothers in arms that has experts concerned about what it means for the ISIS threat going forward.
The dayslong assault focused on the Gweiran Prison in Hasakah, Syria, last Thursday saw roughly 300 ISIS operatives detonate multiple car bombs before converging on the facility, Voice of America reported, citing the Syrian Democratic Forces. The facility housed roughly 4,000 ISIS and another 700-850 boys and teenagers.

Clearly, election night this coming November is not shaping up to be a good one for Democrats. The historical trends alone all but guarantee they lose the House of Representatives, and the contemporary trends are no better, pointing to a large Republican wave that could also decisively shift power in the Senate.
Yet, in the midst of all that darkness for Democrats stands the state of Georgia. Sure, they are probably going to get beat in Florida and Arizona, but Georgia is supposed to be different. It’s trending the opposite way, representing an oasis in the political desert for a party that will be thirsty for a big win in November.

When Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently announced an end to some medical mandates and virus-related restrictions in the United Kingdom, I thought: "This is a victory for nation-states over unitary global government." The reason the prime minister turned a 180 on his country's COVID-1984 tyranny seems to be intricately linked to his own personal scandals involving the breaking of various lockdown, masking, and social gathering rules that form the crux of the U.K.'s totalitarian health regime. If Klaus Schwab, George Soros, Bill Gates, or Anthony Fauci had complete control over the queen's realm, you can bet that the mandates would never go away.

The New York Times reported the news, which does not make it a lock; but when it comes to progressive affairs, one can bet the grey lady has it right that the announcement is all-but-a-done-deal.While Biden is certain to pick a fire-breathing leftist for the forthcoming vacancy,

U.K. anti-terrorism police arrested two more men in Manchester Wednesday in connection with their investigation of a British man who took Jewish worshippers hostage at a Texas synagogue.
Four of the six arrested are still in custody. He was heard on the synagogue’s Facebook livestream demanding the release of Aafia Siddiqui, also known as "Lady Al Qaeda," a Pakistani national imprisoned in Fort Worth for allegedly trying to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Two teenagers were detained in South Manchester the day after the Texas incident, but both were later released without charges after three nights in custody. Reports said they were Akram’s sons.

“Well, at least it can’t get any worse than this,” Joe Biden is thinking as he scans this Monmouth poll. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, Vladimir Putin picks up the phone and gives the “go” order to his generals outside Ukraine…
Coupla real gut punches for Democrats in this new data from Monmouth. Biden has reached the lowest job approval of his presidency in their polling to date, crossing the political Mendoza line by falling from 40 percent last month to 39 now. Republicans also lead 51/43 on the generic ballot, an all but unheard of advantage for the GOP at this stage

Keep an eye on this story folks; there’s something else here. The FDA decision to block COVID-19 treatment options is very sketchy, and I sense that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis knows the science will not support the Biden administration. This story -when exposed- has the potential to bring down the Biden administration, big time… DeSantis senses it. Earlier today, Florida (snip) FDA decision to revoke monoclonal antibody treatments as a therapeutic option. The FDA action was not only done without communication, but the decision was also made without study and without any input from the treatment side of the COVID-19 dynamic.

The Biden administration decided to send all Americans free COVID-19 tests to address the omicron surge. So far, the ordered tests are getting delivered unless you live in an apartment. As our editor Paula Boylard noted, those living in colder parts of the country may also have their tests left out in the cold. The COVID tests are not supposed to be stored in temperatures under 36° F. Fox’s Bill Hemmer received the four tests he ordered and noted another odd feature. According to Fox News:
Hemmer, co-host of “America’s Newsroom,” praised the federal government and the United States Postal Service (USPS)
