In a foreshadowing of America’s future under coercive secularism, a Finnish politician and Finnish bishop will go on criminal trial next week for merely upholding historic Christian teaching on sexual morality. The trial is a telling measure of the erosion of Christianity in Europe. Juhana Pohjola, a Lutheran bishop, and Päivi Räsänen, a member of Finland’s Parliament, stand accused of an act increasingly forbidden in the de-Christianized West: quoting the Bible.(Snip)Six Republican members of Congress have called on the U.S. government’s religious commission to condemn Finland for this trial. But that will never happen.

A related article about Bishop Juhana Pohjola and Dr. Päivi Räsänen was posted last evening and people of faith would do well to take a few minutes to read that article as well as another published in “The Federalist” as they relate to the admonition of the author of this article, George Neumayr.

In Case With Global Implications, Finland Puts Christians On Trial For Their Faith
Meet the man who appears to be the first in the post-Soviet Union West to be brought up on criminal charges for publishing long-held Christian beliefs.

Bishop Pohjola’s family consists of Lutheran pastors going back to the Reformation. This case has implications for ALL churches, in particular Roman Catholicism because it “reflects their historic commitments as well.”

So, Finns getting back to pagan, anti-Christian roots. Much evil is being taught in the world today, and it is almost all on the extremist left.

Every Christian should make a stand and not allow secular liberalism to push us back. Election matters!

Exactly my thoughts, #2. I've been reading articles about pagan ritual burial sites recently unearthed in Scandinavian countries.
This is sad, as half of my family is Finnish, people of very strong faith, forebears who were instrumental in bringing literacy to the Finnish people, largely in order to be able to read the Bible. Even in recent surveys the Finns rank at or near the top of literacy. But what are they reading???
The return to paganism is virtually universal, and has wagged its ugly face here, too. It's never a good sign to revert to a "system" of beliefs which are lacking in the Christian ethic of love, forgiveness. mercy, kindness balanced with the demands of justice and truth, wisdom and goodness.
Sad.

FTA: "Today’s secularists see freedom and Christianity in stark competition, with freedom only growing if Christianity shrinks."
Actually the USA has Finland beat on this score. Ask a certain baker in Colorado, or a wedding photographer in Washington. We have already put Christians on civil trial for practicing their faith and they have been found guilty. Now Finland may beat us with a criminal conviction, but I believe its a distinction without a difference. Western Civilization has been on the road to suicide since the sixties radicals chanted, "Hey, hey, ho, ho! Western Civ has got to go!" Everyone naively thought they were only referring to course requirements; who could have imagined they meant our entire culture?
Five decades ago marriage was replaced with shack-ups, euphemistically called "living together". Mistimed pregnancies were easily "taken care of". Serial relationships were no longer a sign of instability, but just one of "bad luck". Homosexuals just wanted to get out of the closet; be able to hold a job and keep their apartment. Today they can be "married" and adopt children, and hold Drag Queen story hours for preschoolers in public libraries. Satan's evil spirits prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. (Hat tip: Prayer to St. Michael.)
While Satan glories in the persecution of Christians, his hubris is unable to recognize that his actions only insure a robust revival of the True Faith. Persecution is the best recruitment tool known to Christendom, for only in Christ is there true Freedom. Be steeped in Scripture, prepare for persecution and welcome the converts. Like our first century sisters and brothers, let go forth preaching the Gospel and singing joyous hymns to our God.
AMDG, then MAGA

Homosexuals are an ethnic group? In the thought pattern of Matt Walsch, please dear Finnish define ethnicity? Can I have my dolphinectomy now?

I wonder if there is a 'get around'. Read the Koran aloud where it condemns homosexuals and sexual deviants. (Yes. I said it.) And then point out that the Bible agrees with the condemnation but not the punishment. The authorities would have to condemn the Koran.

The author takes note of American Christian chaplains and soldiers being hounded out of service as well as cessation of federal funds available to Christian adoption agencies. In a blunt statement, the author points out that liberals once quoted Voltaire as a defender of free speech and religion but no longer—instead, they now regard individuals who dissent from political correctness as “morally evil.” Further, that freedom of religion has been redefined as freedom from religion with specific emphasis on Christianity. ~~~ Dr. Räsänen’s trial began today. She is the wife of a Lutheran pastor.
