Some passengers were enduring one of the worst trips ever Tuesday as winter weather continued to wreak havoc not only with road travel but also Amtrak trains, where stranded passengers said they were dealing with overflowing toilets and a lack of food. Amtrak's Crescent, which left New Orleans on Sunday on its way to New York, got stuck north of Lynchburg, Virginia, on Monday morning, returned to Lynchburg and remained there until finally heading northbound again late Tuesday afternoon. Officials said downed trees had been blocking the tracks. Earlier Tuesday, passenger Sean Thornton said in a phone interview that the

High demand for COVID-19 testing in Massachusetts has not stopped. The drive-thru test site in Randolph was so backed up Monday that people had to wait hours to get a PCR test. Monday was the busiest testing day for the city, police working at the site told NBC10 Boston. The wait tested people's patience. "We are here in purgatory!" exclaimed Halima Blackman. Blackman and her mother urgently needed a PCR test. They had a death in the family and have to fly out Tuesday. They decided to take their chances at the Randolph testing center at the Joseph Zapustas Ice

Jimmy Fallon recently tested positive for COVID-19. The Tonight Show host, 47, announced his diagnosis in a post on Instagram Monday, explaining that he received the positive results right before Christmas, despite being fully vaccinated. "Hey guys, on the first day of our holiday break I tested positive for Covid. I was vaccinated and boostered which made me lucky enough to only have mild symptoms," he wrote beside a photo that showed him sitting alone inside a testing room wearing a mask. "Thank you to the doctors and nurses who work so hard around the clock to get everyone vaxxed,"

A couple of months ago, a woman paid a visit to Jeff Schrier's used car lot in Omaha, Nebraska. She was on a tight budget, she said, and was desperate for a vehicle to commute to work. She was shown three cars priced at her limit, roughly $7,500. Schrier said the woman was stunned. "'That's what I get for $7,500?‘" he recalled her saying. The vehicles had far more age or mileage on them than she had expected for something to replace a car that had been totaled in a crash. The woman eventually settled on a 2013 Toyota Scion

To left-leaning Democrats, Stacey Abrams, who is making her second run for Georgia governor, is a superstar: a nationally recognized voting-rights champion, a symbol of her state’s changing demographics, and a political visionary who registered and mobilized tens of thousands of new voters — the kind of grassroots organizing that progressives have long preached. “I don’t think anyone could call Stacey Abrams a moderate,” said Aimee Allison, the founder of She the People, a progressive advocacy group for women of color. Moderates would beg to differ. They see Abrams as an ally for rejecting left-wing policies that center-left Democrats have

Riot police armed with batons and shields clashed with thousands of anti-lockdown protesters in the Dutch capital today. Crowds gathered in Amsterdam's Museum Square to object against Covid-19 measures and vaccinations - despite a country-wide ban on group meet-ups. City Mayor Femke Halsema issued emergency orders allowing cops to clear the area of rule-breakers during the latest wave of virus infections. Water cannons were used to disperse swarms of people, while police dogs attacked those getting too close. Officers also thrashed activists with batons as tempers flared. With just hours left in 2021, President Joe Biden is facing moving into his second year in office with a stubbornly low approval rating, and an array of major national problems that could further dent his popularity. Biden enjoyed the approval of a majority of Americans during the first few months of his presidency, but his numbers have been under water since August 30, according to analysis by poll tracker FiveThirtyEight.
