A recent Wall Street Journal poll reported that if the 2022 midterms were held currently, some 37 percent of Hispanic/Latino voters would likely support the Republican candidate. An equal number polled support for the Democrats.
Perhaps key is the 22 percent who remain “undecided” and thereby illustrate that the traditionally Democratic Hispanic vote is now up for grabs.
(snip)
Wall Street Journal polls also showed that in a potential (but probably unlikely) 2024 match-up between Biden and Trump, Hispanic voters would split about evenly (44 percent Biden, 43 percent Trump). Are Hispanics then following the trajectory of middle-class whites who have left the Democratic Party in droves and

Lots of excellent points made...but the last sentence is just enjoyable. VDH refers to the intangible things that drive voters away this way....
FTA:
".... the arrogance, unlikability, and ineptness of the new left-wing bicoastal Democratic elite who demands unconditional fealty from those they “help” but with whom they otherwise have no desire to associate."
Yep. A fun read, just for the nicely written comments on how nasty the Dems are.

It is very similar to the way Italian-Americans left the Democrat Party. The Democrats have no appeal to hardworking, religious, family oriented people. Hence their war on work, religion and the family.

I can't argue with any of his points but must say the term Hispanic is all but meaningless.

Hispanics are very family oriented. African-American families used to be until the 'rats started giving welfare to single mothers and fathers became unnecessary. Hispanics are not stupid and they look around and see what has happened to African-Americans and don't want that to happen to them or their families.
Another great article by Victor Davis Hanson. Thanks for posting.

We have a Hispanic (Guatemalan) family that has been cleaning our house for decades. The granddaughter who was born here is going to college and, of course, speaks perfect English. I don't know about the rest of the family, but she hates Joe Biden with a passion. She recently went with her grandmother to Guatemala to help her sell some property. I asked her how the trip went, and she said that once was enough. She will never go back. She was also too polite to describe the country with a word that Donald Trump and I used to describe certain countries, but her description was certainly similar.

The Hispanics I know that are here legally are hardworking people and most of those are sick of the freebies that illegals are getting. They actually liked Trump and what he was doing for this country.

Easy; the Hispanics are majorly pro-family. The Left is majorly anti-family. No match here.

Most Hispanics are hardworking, keep your head down people, unlike the POC they're not looking for government handouts and they are mostly Pro-life too. If the RNC had any brains they would cultivate more votes from the Hispanics with a profamily, keep more of your own money platform.

It's pretty obvioius no one ever got rich on government handouts. Working, saving and staying in schol all take self-discipline, but that combination is the surest way to improve your life. No one with ambition and self respect looks to the government for lifetime sympathy and free money. The party of endless freebies does not inspire hardworking Latinos.

Most Hispanics I know aspire to a much better life than democrats have in store for them. Republicans respect hard work and family values and a belief in God which are values that most Hispanics hold also. They want people to succeed by their own efforts. Republicans do not feel intimidated when people succeed. We are all for it because we know their success is ultimately beneficial for all of us. I am not surprised by this shift and urge the Republican Party to make an effort to reach out to legal immigrants because this is the party that fits their values. Anyone who works hard does not want their hard earned tax dollars to go to gimme dats. Lest that be taken as a racial comment, let me be clear there are many whites that have the same entitled mindset. It has nothing to do with color and everything to do with character. You are either a lazy taker or are someone with self-respect who wants to make it on their own. Democrats want to exploit Hispanics just like they have done to the black community. Who in their right mind would want that kind of complete condescension from dems to chart the future for their children?

I have done quite a bit of hiring in the last few decades and quite simply, it has been increasingly difficult to find long term generational US residents willing to show up every day and spend more time working than itching with a b, it's been easy to find Hispanic workers who come to work every day and do their damned job.
The democrats are for confiscating wealth from the makers and giving to the the takers and Hispanics are largely makers. However, a big however, the current wave may very well be a different "demographic" just because they come from the same countries largely don't expect the same from them. They are marching in with cell phones and other symbols of relative wealth. And they have been bombarded by the propaganda machine telling them that we owe them. So who knows what's in store. Enjoy a the current trend, make the best of it.

Hanson repeats the list of major Brandon failures but in his usual eloquent prose. It all comes down to one main problem, the Left be crazy. Unlike in our parents' day, political shifts are usually temporary. Every race and age group is suffering equally now and they are abandoning liberal communists but only because the ridiculous promises they used to get elected can not be fulfilled, which conservatives suspected in the beginning. I welcome the new enlightenment of former democrats but it will only last through the next presidency, The basement-dwelling creatures with their overdue student loans and useless degrees will always want somebody else to pay their way. The blacks will always want mo free stuff and fewer police interventions and Hispanics from all of Mexico, Central and South America will always want a better life, i.e. paid for by American taxpayers. They have now been joined by derelicts from all over the world, thanks to our swiss-cheese border. Those of us who want a safer, stronger, more prosperous America will always be greedy, capitalist racists.

VDH is all we have left of the bright beauty that WAS California. His insights and depth of knowledge are awesome. Yet his manner of speaking is so quiet and he doesn't flaunt his erudition. Poster #5 said what I was thinking.

There are two primary reasons why Hispanics are deserting the Democrats.
1. The Dems have become a black-centric/crazy white lib party. Hispanics don't live in ghettos nor blame "white supremacy" for everything that's "wrong". They work hard and play by the rules. History shows Mexican-Americans to have been, for years, patriots who have fought and died for the flag heroically. What you see on TV demonstrating under Mexican flags are "professional" Mexicans and mostly non-Americans, DREAMERS and the type demanding to hang on in the US with the privileges that have accrued. Mexican-Americans are paying that bill, too.
2. Mexican-Americans have no brook for illegals. When I lived on the border these were the most virulent opposing "wetbacks". They knew the potential of flooding the borderlands with cheap labor to undercut the already lower working-class existence of many families. Now the floodwaters of illegal immigration have covered the US sea-to-shining-sea, from day workers and bus boys to slaughterhouses and dairy farms. It has robbed Mexican-Americans of opportunity in many places.
Sadly, Republicans have not historically played well with "minorities" in their sandbox, particularly at local and state levels. The "Real Conservatives" feel threatened...with a different perspective "Real Conservative" litmus tests pop up, opposition forms that sends an unwelcome message, or they're used as props. Let's see what the future holds. Do Republicans win elections, or preserve strict ideological purity?

Perhaps the people from Cuba,Mexico,Puerto Rico, and central and South America countries do not like being lumped together under a catch all label like they are all the same. It shows the contempt that the left has for them.

I grew up in New Mexico.
Hispanics tend toward very socially conservative. The trannies, Latinx nonsense, etc don’t go over well.
Nor does the coddling of Islam. “Matamoros” (kill Muslims) is a common place name.
And the biggest victims of the massive crime and smuggling going in? Hispanics.
And who has to have their wages suppressed by floods of illegals? Hispanics.

More than any other statistic we see, this is the one that scares the poop out Dems. They count on dominating the minority voting blocks, which is why they approach immigration the way they do. If they lose Hispanics, they're in big trouble, and they know it.

The problem with the defining of "Hispanics" is that they think of themselves as Americans but Democrats never stop classifying them as Hispanics (or Latinx, a term which accentuates this problem because NONE of them think of themselves as that classification). Democrats prioritize race so much that they can't see we are all just people getting along fine to the point that we're all marrying each other and our children will be even more ill-defined by the Democrats.
