When it comes to politicians, most Americans are slow to reach a boiling point. But Joe Biden is testing their patience with his cold-hearted fumbling of inflation. After first denying it was a widespread problem, then saying the surge in prices was “transitory,” the White House is now searching for a new response. The effort needs work. Lots of work.“Reversing this trend is a top priority for me,” President Biden belatedly claimed Wednesday, after his Labor Department reported the consumer price index rose 6.2 percent in October over the same period last year, the biggest jump in 30 years.

From my reading of History, Herbert Hoover stepped into a mudhole prepared for him by the previous Administration.
Biden has done this ALL himself.
The headline denigrates Hoover by comparing him to Biden.

FJB. His top priority is getting most of the oatmeal into his mouth in the morning, and not down the front of his bib.
Hoover was by most measures terrible, but he was at least cognizant. Sock Puppet Joke lives in his own tiny bubble, emerging occasionally for short periods when his handlers deem him sufficiently medicated not to stroke out for a few minutes. He nearly has, several times.
The meltdown, when it comes, will be public and incredibly messy. It's only a matter of time.

Herbert Hoover quote, "Economic depression cannot be cured by legislative action or executive pronouncement. Economic wounds must be healed by the action of the cells of the economic body - the producers and consumers themselves". And this is exactly how we got out of the "Great Depression".

Hoover saved Europe after WW 1,by the way got aid to them.
The world was starting into a depression when he came in.
FDR didn't get us out of the depression till WW2 broke out.

Biden is a disaster unto himself - no previous president has got a thing on Joe. He will be the standard we measure all future failures by.

The sad part is that he won’t live long enough to see what an abject failure he is unlike Obama is living through now.

Dementia Jo cannot be fairly compared to Hoover.
Hoover understood that the expansion of the federal government would only prolong the depression, which was worldwide, and which was extended by FDR, not ended.
FDR, by the way, ran in 1932 with a platform dedicated to a reduction in size of the federal government. He lied. And his actions in dealing with the depression caused it to last longer in the U.S., ending long after other developed nations ended theirs.
Hoover, after his defeat, went on to serve the government in a series of commissions. FDR even had Hoover redesign the White House staff and functions. And Hoover was the most qualified individual to serve as president, topped only by George H.W. Bush.
Biden is the least competent man ever to serve as president, with an equally incompetent VP.
The absolute test for our republic is for us to survive these two idiots.

Biden has much more culpability than Hoover did. Biden spent eight years as VP laying the groundwork for this catastrophe. Joe Biden is the second coming of James Buchanan.

Biden is a petulant, narcissistic, petty dictator who barely gets a fraction of the media derision that Trump got for having two scoops of ice cream. Disgusting.

What the American people have lost patience with is the destruction and disasters Biden has left in his path in the nine months he has been in office. All are due to Biden willfully turning President Trump's policies on their heads and then lying to the American people about it. Comparing Biden to Hoover is an insult to Hoover. Hoover was guilty of doing nothing and waiting for the depression to run its course. Biden's guilty of actively making things worse -- far worse.
The Democrat 'Progressives' have had a field day irresponsibly throwing money at their wish list of new programs. The Democrat 'Moderates' have gone along with this insanity. The 'new normal' the Democrats are creating is a dystopia of rioting, burning, stealing and mayhem. Their policies will consign the United States to the dustbin of history.

It is not a bug, it is a feature. Continually skyrocketing gas prices are the key to convincing consumers to ride mass transit and to drive around in electric golf carts

Herbert Hoover was a good man who was dealt a bad hand. Before becoming President, he had organized a response to the famine in Russia (caused by Soviet policies) that saved many lives. His policies didn't cause the depression and his response was no worse than Roosevelt's, which caused the economic downturn to last for another 12 years (unheard of, before or since).

Most of our insightful posters have jumped all over this comparison and rightfully so. What was Goodwin thinking? If a comparison must be made, it must be between Biden and Obama and only because Obama was the last influence on Joe's failed mind and the memories stuck. In each case, democrat leadership has presented us with a dilemma. Was Obama an incompetent president or did he simply hate America and base his stupid performance on that hatred? In contrast, is Biden performing on the guidance of his feeble mind or is he completely gone and being manipulated by others who chose him as a puppet to mask their own evil? Worst case scenario in the years that we have had to suffer under this un-American leadership is that America will fall in defeat because we permitted it to happen. The syrup on the stack of stale pancakes is that, in tandem with a failed POTUS, we have been blessed with a feeble, gutless Supreme Court and a Congress that performs like a third rate kids baseball team that is only doing what their incompetent coaches tell them to do, knowing they are losing.

No. Before assuming the Presidency, Hoover had a very impressive list of accomplishments as an engineer and philanthropist. Biden never accomplished a thing on his own.

Hoover had virtually none of the levers of government economic control that exist today. He was President in an era when "panics" were the occasional price paid for a free economy. 1929 was not America's first depression. And those previous were no treat, either.
Before Carter there was the Nixon-Ford administration. LBJ, Vietnam, and the "Great Society" caused inflation to build when Nixon took office in 1969. by 1971 inflation hit 5.6%, a ghastly number at the time. What did government do? It imposed wage and price controls, and then took us off the gold standard when our gold hoard supporting the dollar was being depleted at $35/oz by foreign interests. Inflation was tamped down to just 3.5% annually, still considered terrible in historic terms. Then came the "oil crisis" in '73, and Watergate. Oil went to $20/bbl. When Ford came into office inflation was at 12%. His grand plan was WIN, Whip Inflation Now, which was mainly slogans and buttons. Ford suggested people carpool, turn down thermostats, and start home vegetable gardens to stop inflation. Oh, and here's a button. When Ford left office the "misery index" stood at 19%.
Carter won election largely on Ford's poor debate performance and the economy. Inflation popped to 12% again. The Fed raised interest rates to end inflation once and for all. It created a recession. When Carter left office the misery index stood at 19%.
Hoover was a piker compared to this triad. Biden may break all records by the time he's done. He's currently at 10.8 on the misery index, and that may be low due to employment stat jiggering. (PDT's worst year was 6.3 in 2017)

Herbert Hoover's only crime was he was a Republican. That's all it takes to get a bad rap from the lying media/historians. Oh and he didn't do away with Prohibition. FDR ran on a promise to repeal Prohibition which is probably why he beat Hoover in 1932. FJB has no rival at being the worst, you can't compare him to anyone.

Hoover was an intelligent, decent, technically trained man. He is derided in light of FDR who was turned into an object of worship and placed on a pedestal by the media. "Mr. Roosevelt is gonna save us all." Sound familiar?
It's been only recently that FDR could be criticized with the passing of pre-boomer generations. FDR was an egomaniac whose policies (never forget farmers destroying crops and pouring out milk) actually made the depression worse and last longer. FDR was the great rallying point for WWII and will always be remembered for saving Western Europe, but he abandoned Eastern Europe to Stalin's evil which led to the Cold War and the expenditure of vast wealth to fight it from which this nation will never recover. Hoover detested Stalin and the Soviet regime and would have never allowed this to happen. Read "Freedom Betrayed, Herbert Hoover's Secret History of the Second World and Its Aftermath" published after his death.
Joe Biden isn't even worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Hoover, neither is Bill Clinton or Barrack Obama. They are trivial people, propped up by a cheaply polished veneer of faux leadership by a devious, manipulating, hateful, bigoted, anti-free speech liberal media.
