Democrats walked into a political ditch with their plan to let the Internal Revenue Service snoop on American banks accounts, and so far they’re doing a lousy job of scrambling to get out.(snip)The details are murky, but most Americans could still get ensnared in this dragnet unless they pay bills and buy goods in cash. Democrats say banks will only have to report total annual inflows and outflows, not discrete transactions. But nearly all Americans spend more than $10,000 a year.
The real political goal here is to create a mechanism for triggering audits—probably through an algorithm—so the IRS can rifle through all of a taxpayer’s business and other financial records.

One of my uncles was audited and he was an honest man. The auditor basically admitted they were going after him because one of his brothers was a crook in his business but they couldn’t catch him.

They were talking about 75,000 new auditors. They don't need that many auditors to go after rich people, who they already go after anyway. There is no justification for any intrusion into personal bank accounts. Many deposits are and checks are not income, or expense. Deposits can be loans, account transfers, gifts, etc. Expenses can be a check to your children, parents, mortgage payments. This bill better not pass. Everything Biden had done is going to be reversed. The socialists think what they are doing is settled and will last forever. No, it will not even last as long as Biden, who is getting close.

When the tax laws became too oppressive in ancient times, the kings could tell because their tax collectors just never came home. Tax collectors eaded out to collect taxes, and just disappeared.
Many times, understanding history is helpful in understanding how to deal with modern day problems. Auditors have to live somewhere. Perhaps they could be influenced to find a new job.

This is like the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791-1794. The feds passed a whiskey tax and distillers were infuriated. Violence ensued. The people made whiskey as a side crop and used it for barter and exchange. They tarred and feathered the tax collectors and even ground off the nose of another. Several deaths occurred and Washington had to send troops to put down the rebellion. They eventually repealed the tax since nobody was obeying it and it became impossible to collect. A little reminder of what can happen when a government passed what the people believe is a terrible law.

According to my CPA son, the IRS is suffering a massive shortage of agents, as many are retiring in droves with none to replace them. He says when his office calls the IRS it's very rare when anyone answers the phone. And these are CPAs with complex tax questions. Imagine if the IRS is given this power to snoop how many agents they'll need. He doesn't believe this evil will ever see the light of day, besides, with the CIA/NSA was given this power under the guise of the "war on terror," and they can do this anytime... the Feds just want to make it legal for use in a court of law.

Between credit cards, mortgage, auto repair, taxes, insurance and vacation air fare I spend more than $835 per month on each. That would give the Feds 50+ reasons to 'investigate' me.
Fight the Feds now before it is too late.

Use to sell tax law books for CCH! Use to train IRS offices on how to research Regs, Revenue Rulings and Tax Ct. decisions. Got audited when moved to MN! The auditor said “you worked for CCH?” Yup! “You can go”! I can’t even do a tax filing without a CPA! Auditors are not to be feared!

I feel sure that the Biden crowd has already quantified the "savings realized" from vastly increasing the number of tax audits we will see with the doubling of IRS agents, and the collaboration of banks acting as IRS moles.
Just another travesty in the litany of them under this administration, but it is another arrow in the quiver for the battle for a flat tax for individual tax returns. Let's hope this whole ridiculous tax increase and spending bill goes down in the ignominy it so richly deserves.

Back to cash folks...as much as you can pay by cash...I remove ...in increments of $500 cash from my bank account and store it in my private "bank"...where the government cannot find it...and I forward legal amounts to President Trump's re-election campaign by bank cashier checks...so no snoopy auditor can find it...Mr. Magoo wants to play games...bring it on!!

If everyone trips the audit wire, then they can audit anyone they choose, and we all know who they will be auditing. Anyone caught uttering the Brandon phrase, standing up at a local school board meeting, holding up an American flag, wearing a MAGA hat, or just some poor guy who a local liberal politician doesn't like the looks of, might as well start rounding up the last ten years' tax records now. They aren't fooling anybody with this.

Whatever happened to the 40,000 agents Obola was hiring to audit our Obamacare enrollment?
#17, That periodic $500 was still routed through your bank. Almost everyone is paid by check, SS, pensions, Mortgages and insurance companies can't take, or won't accept cash. Most are thousands of miles away anyhow. The banks will cooperate as their regulated several ways.

This complete bill is loaded with deplorable totalitarian initiatives designed to make life a living hell for the everyday citizen. It is full of wasteful ways to spendother peoples money. The only correct thing to do is not to modify it, but to totally eliminate it.

Do they really go after rich people, #2. That's not what people say....any tax that threatens the rich and famous is dealt with asap:
they call the politicians at every level and say: -'We won't pay it'.,,,regardless if it's oscare assessments, or prop 13, cap gains, ad nauseum.
How do they get their way? Threats against re-election donations are always ....disturbing.

This puts the lie to the Treasury claim that audit rates won’t increase for Americans with less than $400,000 in income. If the IRS hires several thousand new auditors, they will be expected to get results. They will not go after the rich who can afford to hire lawyers to defend them. They will go after the little guy that cannot afford to fight an unfair audit. You better believe it.
