New York City has reverted to a pre-Giuliani-era "Shattered" urban hellhole, with crime, homelessness, rats, and garbage completely out of control.
What is New York's City Hall concerned about? But of course: Removing a statue of Thomas Jefferson, given that as an 18th century grandee of his time in Virginia, he owned slaves by inheritance.
According to the New York Post:
A city commission voted to remove the statue of Thomas Jefferson from the City Council chamber by the end of the year — though the body is still debating where to send the monument to the Founding Father.

This is a test run to see what radicals can get away with. They've gotten away with taking down just about any Southern slave owner - especially those who fought in the Confederacy. They're nipping at the federal level going after a Founding Father. Once they achieve that, get ready for a lot of monuments (e.g. the Washington monument and even Mt. Rushmore) to be taken down. After the monuments, there are all the laws / documents written by slave owners. Guess who essentially wrote the Constitution? Jefferson. We can't have that, can we?

Just because you don't like or agree with something in someone's past history, it doesn't erase all of their other great accomplishments. Yes, Jefferson owned slaves, which was legal and culturally ok at the time. However, he advocated for the end of slavery through legislative means in a democratic process. Jefferson authored or contributed to many of the documents which set the foundation of the USA. To erase Jefferson from history is another gash in our slow cultural suicide by 1000 cuts.

Niemöller quotation:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Who cares it's New York the hellhole of the east coast. Mr. Jefferson should be happy the ignorant jerks are tossing him send the monument here where it can be appreciated. Everyone on the left hates the Founding Fathers and God but they sure like their faces and God's name on the money they carry, hypocrites.

Ahhhh---they have been after Jefferson for a long time.
He was an exemplary person of his time.
Judging him in todays leftist world is totally unfair,
Judging any man of that period in today's terms is unfair.

Maybe they can put up Margret Sanger in his place…

Do these idiots not realize that it was Jefferson who founded their party? With the exception of one statue of Lincoln, all of the statues which have been torn down were of demonrats. And the offended masses demanding these removals haven’t got a clue.

Put armed guards around the statue, with orders to arrest or fire upon the perpetrators. Since WHEN is this vandalism and theft considered legal?????

First you, take down Thomas Jefferson and by the inference that he is a racist, the next step is to denounce the document he wrote. They aren’t after Jefferson, they are after the Constitution of the United States of America. Get rid of that and they have a free path forward to do anything they want. There would be no right to protest what they do because we would no longer be bound to the principles in the document. Our rights would be destroyed in one fell swoop.

Monomania at work. There will be no end until Americans says no. Because that how bullies work.
And once again, the only people immune from historical accounting are . . . drum roll please . . . the Democrat Party. These self-appointed hall monitors bear the stain of the most systemic and egregious racism and hatred in the history of our Nation. But they're going to make everyone else pay.

Think about it. When slavery was world-wide and accepted, Jefferson and others, many who had slaves themselves, decided that slavery should be ended. This was a completely adverse, and ground-breaking, statement to the rest of the world. These men were visionaries, going against the grain more so than anyone today. It's so easy for do-gooders today to tear down statues, which is meaningless, and where really exposes their lack of history and it's lessons.

Not only did Thomas author and sign into law the first legislation in Virginia making it possible for a slave to be freed, but he also freed as many of the slaves he inherited as he could. He spent his money teaching slaves trades, and when they could support themselves in the world set them free to live in it, (as opposed to starve in it, or become slaves to the government). There are more black slaves in the world today than when Thomas Jefferson was alive. Question to the statue destroyers... How many have YOU FREED? What have you done to change the world, (besides tear down this great man's memorial)?

They will eventually go after Arlington Cemetery. It was the Lee Estate inherited by Mrs. Lee. Mary Lee dreaded the thought of abandoning Arlington, the 1,100-acre estate she had inherited from her father, George Washington Parke Custis, upon his death in 1857. Custis, the grandson of Martha Washington, had been adopted by George Washington when Custis' father died in 1781.
The Custis Family owned slaves.
