President Biden issued a proclamation this week to mark Indigenous Peoples’ Day — the first time a US president had commemorated the holiday.
“On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, our Nation celebrates the invaluable contributions and resilience of Indigenous peoples, recognizes their inherent sovereignty, and commits to honoring the Federal Government’s trust and treaty obligations to Tribal Nations,” Biden wrote in the proclamation made Friday. “Today, we recognize Indigenous peoples’ resilience and strength as well as the immeasurable positive impact that they have made on every aspect of American society.”

Anything that Biden does will just be grouped in history with the reputation of one of the worst "presidents" in our history. His staff is floundering now to make him relevant knowing that 2/3 of the country disapprove of the relic.

But what about Reparations to the Indigenous People? We could start by turning over Manhattan Island and then the whole state of South Dakota, then give California back to the, well, you get the point.

How come it's okay to hate on Italian's, eliminating and denigrating their day. Columbus was not a monster and none of these sanctimonious morons would even be here without him. I know that St Brendan was really the first to get to the west and return, (poke poke) but Columbus was the guy that opened the west to the world.
It's like making James Bond a woman. Why can't they pick another day to celebrate "Indigenous People" or create a new story around a great woman spy?
Why must they destroy the hero of one group in order to honor another?

Celebrating stone aged tribes who never developed a written language, even the the most primitive rudiments of mathematics or science, never even discovering the wheel.
Europe had these things and much, much more for 5,000 years or more and sailed the worlds oceans. Aquaducts, water wheels, superb scuplture and other art, music, steel, gunpowder, fine cloth....all these were normal for many centuries, yet entirely unknown by these celebrated tribes.
What are they celebrating, exactly?

I'll consider celebrating the people who originated in the Americas, as soon as somebody discovers a people who originated here. Every person who ever lived here or ever will either came here from another continent, or descends from someone who came here from another continent. (The tribes here at the time of Columbus' arrival descended from peoples who migrated across the land bridge from Siberia during the last Ice Age...)
If you're celebrating the people who are native to the Americas, wunderbar! Count me in, since I'm part of the 3rd generation of my family to be born here.

Why is it when the Indigenous people in Europe, say, Poland, Hungary, Italy, France, Britain, etc. build walls, fences and other barriers to keep invaders out, they're called racists? They are expected to let in barbarians who flout their laws, language, culture, bring new diseases, they're even allowed to form rape gangs, all in the name of diversity but over here, not so much.

So the fact that he is the first president to recognize this so called holiday is supposed to propel him into presidential greatness? Don't think so.
