The commander of the U.S. Central Command, General Kenneth “Frank” McKenzie, and the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, told Congress that they had recommended to Joe Biden that the military maintain a presence of at least 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. Biden said in an August 19 interview with George Stephanopoulos that he couldn’t recall anyone recommending that troops remain in Afghanistan after the August 31 deadline.
The testimony was extraordinary because a serving commander has rarely contradicted anything his commander in chief has said.
General McKenzie also recommended to Donald Trump that a force of 4,500 troops stay in Afghanistan.

Despite his vow to “build back better,” China is forcing all of Joe Biden’s moves. The Asian giant’s decision to pursue its own climate policy, consisting largely of more industrialization with green trimmings, effectively kills the Paris accords, so long a part of the progressive platform. How could it not? Beijing produces more emissions than the EU and U.S. combined.
“In 2019, China’s emissions not only eclipsed that of the US — the world’s second-largest emitter at 11% of the global total — but also, for the first time, surpassed the emissions of all developed countries

Team US regained the Ryder Cup on Sunday following a historically dominant performance over Europe at Whistling Straits. Having been beaten convincingly in 2018 at Le Golf National, France, the hosts were on top from the outset, racing into a 9-3 lead after the first three sessions.
Although the visiting Europeans hinted at a comeback on Saturday afternoon, the US was able to enter Sunday leading 11-5.
And during the Singles matches on Sunday, Collin Morikawa claimed the decisive half point to ensure the US had the required 14.5 points to regain the Ryder Cup and the famous trophy remained in the US.

Victory isn't quite yet in sight for the United States at the Ryder Cup, but it's a lot closer than anyone would have expected at this point in the tournament. With all team play complete, the United States leads Europe 11-5, an all-but-insurmountable lead heading into Sunday's singles matches.
Through the first three rounds of the Ryder Cup, everything turned up America's way. Three straight 3-1 sessions staked the U.S. to a 9-3 lead heading into the Saturday afternoon fourball sessions. The Americans scuffled, but managed to split the four sessions.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- On the 13th tee box Friday afternoon during four-ball -- after Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton had hit their tee shots -- Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau huddled for a chat. Shortly after they finished, Bryson reached in his bag, pulled out his driver and turned to the crowd as he lifted it over his head like a triumphant medieval lieutenant returning from the field of battle with his sword raised to the city.
The gallery, of course, roared its approval. DeChambeau proceeded to try and drive the 394-yard par 4.
Golf's foremost exhibitionist had finally found a perfect event for his skillset and his disposition.

The 2020-21 PGA Tour season has officially come to an end following the Tour Championship finale. But, your golf withdrawl will soon be fulfilled as the bi-annual Ryder Cup begins in two short weeks.
The 2021 Ryder Cup gets under way Friday, Sept. 24 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 26. Twelve golfers will be chosen to represent Team USA and Team Europe as they compete in Whistling Straights, Haven, Wisconsin. For Team USA, six golfers automatically qualified based on their performances from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons, including majors and PGA Tour events. The other six golfers are chosen by the captains.

The British energy industry is headed for a big shakeup as wholesale natural gas prices have been climbing since the beginning of this year. The latest gas price at the Dutch TTF hub, a European benchmark, gained on Monday to trade at 73.150 euros ($85.69) per megawatt-hour, close to the record high seen last week.
The benchmark has risen a whopping 250 percent since January.
British Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng felt it necessary to assure the British public that there would be gas to heat their homes this winter.
“There is absolutely no question of the lights going out or people being unable to heat their homes,” Kwarteng told the House of Commons.

The U.S., U.K. and Australia have announced the formation of the AUKUS alliance, in open concert against Chinese expansion. “Britain has entered into a security pact with the US and Australia to counter China that will involve building a nuclear powered submarine fleet and wide-ranging projects on cyber warfare, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.”
“The first programme of the AUKUS alliance will be the construction of a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines for the Australian navy, with American and British companies taking part in the manufacturing process.” This marks a radical departure for Australian defense policy, whose navy

During a joint press conference on Wednesday in which President Joe Biden, joined virtually by Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, announced the creation of a trilateral security partnership AUKUS, Biden seemed too forget Morrison's name.

After finishing his statement, Johnson handed it over to Biden. Biden thanked Johnson, and said to Morrison, "I want to thank that fellow down under. Thank you very much pal," not calling him by name. During the brief press conference, the three announced that as the first step of the trilateral partnership between the countries, they would be creating a fleet of nuclear powered submarines.

One does not wish to join the pandemic of viral fear whipped up by our political leaders, collusive medical “experts,” and the grossly irresponsible and programmatically ignorant media conglomerate. And yet, there is good reason to fear being inscribed in the category of “the unvaccinated”—the New Jews at risk of disenfranchisement and worse in the increasingly fascist temper of the times.
From my perspective, this is not a frivolous analogy. Growing up Jewish in a small town in the north of Quebec under the sway of an ultramontane clergy, I know what it is to be publicly mocked, prohibited as an undesirable from entering certain local establishments, and fighting my

One recalls C.S. Lewis’ dystopian novel That Hideous Strength, a longtime favorite of mine, where he speaks of “false writings” and “men maddened with false promises and soured with true miseries.” Lewis held to an apocalyptic vision of moral and intellectual surrender to the idols of mere self-sufficiency and hedonistic indulgence, of a time characterized by the death of meaning and the weakening of belief in a just and merciful God. “The shadow of one dark wing is over all Tellus,” the human spirit is being progressively “enclosed,” as he describes it. There is not much of the Rapture here, little indication of the new Jerusalem prophesied in Revelation.

Australian Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix in a stunning McLaren one-two with Lando Norris at Monza on Sunday while Formula One title rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton took each other out of the race.
The victory was McLaren's first since 2012 and Ricciardo's first since he was at Red Bull in 2018.
"About time," smiled the happy Australian. "To lead literally from start to finish, I don't think any of us expected that.
"To not only win but to get a one-two, it's insane. For McLaren to be on the podium is huge."
Ricciardo, now an eight times grand prix winner,
