For Cpl. Daegan Page, the words etched in ink on his chest said it all. “Death Before Dishonor.” He played youth hockey in the Westside district and graduated from Millard South High School. Page, 23, of Omaha, gave his life this week while trying to give others a better one. The Marine was one of 13 U.S. service members killed Thursday in the Kabul airport bombing, along with at least 169 Afghans. “Our hearts are broken,” his family said in a statement. Daegan William-Tyeler Page’s family remembered him as a “genuinely happy guy that you could always count on.”

Comments:

Heartsick at the loss of this young soul, and the devastated lives of his wife & family.

This is my hometown. My anger over this whole debacle is near the boiling point. Every single one of these pukes in this article that lauded us with words of sorrow and prayers contributed to the death of this fine young man, by not fighting the stolen election. Had DJT still been in office where he belonged, this boy would have still been alive to live that future he had envisioned. They ALL have his blood on their hands.

It is such a shame have some of our very best people being killed for this horrible, worthless seventh century hellhole filled with seventh century barbarians who are proud of their barbarity. The evil men in charge who ordered this fiasco should be in prison or worse.

U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska is the sole finalist to be the next president of the University of Florida, opening up the possibility that he will resign from his Senate seat in the coming weeks. The university’s presidential search committee announced on Thursday it had unanimously recommended Sasse, 50, for the job. “This is right for the University of Florida, right for the state of Florida and right for the Sasse family,” said Rahul Patel, chair of the search committee.

Nebraska Democrats are asking their U.S. Senate candidate to quit the race after he sent staffers text messages that the state party described as “sexually inappropriate.” Omaha baker Chris Janicek sent a group message June 4 to at least five people, including a female staff member who subsequently filed a complaint with the Nebraska Democratic Party. His text said they needed to “get her laid,” referring to the female staffer, who has since quit the campaign.

The wife of Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman claimed “swimming in America is very racist” — as she likened her husband’s use of closed captioning to turning up the brightness on a smartphone. “Historically, swimming in America is very racist, and usually when you look at drowning statistics, it usually affects children of color, because of lack of access,” Gisele Fetterman said on the iGen politics podcast on Thursday. Gisele made the comments while discussing how she and her husband, Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor, had decided not to move into the state-owned mansion in Harrisburg but made the pool accessible

At newspapers, obituaries are typically written in advance. The Washington Post had plenty to work with when the death of Lucianne Goldberg happened, but instead of remembering good, or at least balancing their summary, they selectively chose to remember the great muse of the right, Internet pioneer, and accomplished woman from a time when women weren't allowed much accomplishment, by printing only cherry-picked tales of dubious sourcing that made her look phony. It was garbage. It stood in stark contrast to the insightful and warm-hearted tweets that overwhelmingly were the consensus on Twitter, from wildly different parts of the Internet spectrum.

A climate protester glued his shaved head to the world-famous “Girl with a Pearl Earring” painting at a museum in The Hague on Thursday, the latest in a series of stunts targeting iconic artworks. A second activist glued his hand to the wall next to the painting and poured a can of tomato soup over his accomplice’s head, before going on a rant about climate change while being jeered by stunned onlookers. Dutch master Johannes Vermeer’s 1665 canvas is protected by glass at the Mauritshuis museum and was not damaged, gallery staff said. “The police were notified and three people have been arrested.

President Biden on Friday called the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband at their San Francisco home “despicable” and suggested it was a natural progression from lies Republicans have spread about the 2020 election. “This is despicable. There’s no place in America. There’s too much violence, political violence, too much hatred, too much vitriol,” Biden said at the start of remarks to Pennsylvania Democrats.“And what makes us think that one party can talk about stolen elections, COVID being a hoax, that it’s all a bunch of lies, and it not affect people who may not be so well balanced,” Biden continued. “What makes us think that it’s not going to
