Afghanistan proves our failed generals

To the surprise of only the Biden administration and its top brass, the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan last week after 20 years of frivolous American adventurism. It was a spectacular failure of American diplomacy, statecraft, intelligence and, most of all, military capability. In short, mission very much not accomplished. But that’s pretty much standard operating procedure for the nearly useless behemoth called the Pentagon, which hasn’t won a war since the kinder, gentler American government changed its name from the War Department to the Defense Department shortly after World War II. If you’re always on defense, you’re losing.

In the defense of the generals, the politicians never gave the generals or the fighting personnel the green light to win. One can't fight to win with lawyers imbedded in every unit with orders to tell the fighting personnel to not do this or that. Don't want to hurt civilians, it will look bad. If that's the word going in, then don't go in. The military is there to kill and break things. That's it. Building countries and trying to erase centuries of behavior won't get you anywhere. If you want to build something, do it after you've destroyed the enemy.

American Army generals look to Gene ral Gideon Pillow for inspiration. Huh? Gideon Pillow? Why.\, yes! This man an ordered artillery pieces pointed at the fort he was supposed to defend, not at the enemy. He was stupefyingly stupid, but at least he did not pre-channel General Milley with thoughts about CRT or how the abandon his fellow Americans to bearded, illiterate, Moslem fanatics.

At the end of the Second World War, five star General Dwight Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe over all American, British, and Canadian forces who fought and beat the Nazis less than one year after they landed in Normandy, France in June, 1944. If you look at Eisenhower in his military uniform after the end of that war, that Eisenhower won, you will see that he worn no more than a couple of rows of ribbons on his “Ike” jacket. Today’s Generals are a different story, they never won a war, but walk around in military uniforms decorated with eight to ten rows of ribbons and all sorts of qualification badges that bring to mind the bedecked old Soviet Generals and Marshals after the Second World War, the difference being that those Soviet General Officers, just like Eisenhower, won their war.

Why does the US have a military that costs more than the next top ten combined? Clearly not to protect us from invasion. Is it just a gigantic Woke Machine? Hire a mercenary force to secure the border, bulldoze the Pentagon into a parking lot for Deep Staters. Save $trillions and countless lives.

If President Joe Biden’s no-questions-please press conference on the collapse of the American puppet government in Afghanistan and the end of the American imperium in the Middle East felt like a funeral, that’s because it was. The ignominious defeat after 20 years of fruitless, half-hearted warfare marks the end of the federal geopolitical Leviathan state that emerged during and in the aftermath of World War II. Good riddance to it. Despite the steady drumbeat from the media, government agencies, Big Pharma and the established medical bureaucracies attesting to the safety and effectiveness of the COVID vaccines, those who remain skeptical of their trustworthiness advance a range of countervailing arguments. The vaccines are really panaceas, essentially unreliable, innocuous or even useless. Favorable trial results are statistically manipulated. The Pfizer math is shifty and the “per protocol” method is frankly disingenuous, constituting a violation of bioethics laws. The vaccines are potentially harmful, yielding dangerous side-effects, aka “adverse reactions,” that are routinely underreported in passive, voluntary sites like VAERS in the U.S. and Yellow Card in the U.K.

One of the many traps into which conservatives routinely fall is thinking that their ideological opponents don’t fully understand the nature and the consequences of the ruinous policies they advocate. Cries of, “don’t they realize that…” and “surely they can see the hypocrisy” fill the air as the well-meaning but utterly naïve Right tries to make sense of the rabid, foaming Left and its dynamic plan for “direct action,” that is, force and violence. How else to explain the events of the past nine months, the astonishingly fast descent of the United States of America from a muscular Republic confident of its history, purpose, and mission

Back in 1943, the British novelist Graham Greene published “The Ministry of Fear,” a thriller set in World War II London involving mercy killings, exploding suitcases, seances, Luftwaffe air raids, outright murder, insane asylums and undercover Nazi spies. It was successfully made into a movie the following year starring Ray Milland as the troubled protagonist, and directed by Fritz Lang, himself a refugee from Hitler. Both novel and film capture the paranoid atmosphere during that troubled time, with danger lurking even in something as innocent as a cake. Whom or what can you trust?

One of the things the Left hates most about the United States of America is that there are 50 of them. A leftist revolution is more easily accomplished in a country in which power is already consolidated in a single place among a small group of people. Despite the vast territory of the Russian empire under the last of the Tsars, Lenin was able to hijack the initial anti-Tsarist revolt and turn it into a Bolshevik seizure of power. With Donald Trump’s reappearance on the political scene a few days ago at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, the former president has once again emerged as the activists’ choice for the 2024 nomination—if the election were held today. Trump won the votes of 70 percent of the attendees, followed by Florida governor Ron DeSantis at 21 percent; the others, including Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pompeo, each collected less than one percent of the straw vote. The presidential election, however, isn’t going to be held today or any other day except (nominally) Nov. 5, 2024. At least the Republicans had better hope that’s the case.

Great commanders understand the importance of choosing their battlefields carefully and, whenever possible, fighting on the most favorable and advantageous terrain. At Gaugamela, the outnumbered Alexander the Great got Darius right where he wanted him, and destroyed the Persian Empire. What is to be done? Lenin’s 1902 question, posed as he was effecting his takeover of the Bolsheviks with an eye to absolute power in Russia, continues to echo down the decades. Lenin understood that first the struggle for supremacy had to be won at the intellectual and theoretical level and then, when the moment was right, by direct action—i.e., violence. In other words, the revolution had to be conceived and believed by the intelligentsia before it could be achieved. And, of course, it needed a leader. Here in the United States, our own Marxist revolution arrived on our shores in the 1930s from Frankfurt in National Socialist Germany,
